Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar m tn My son has a developmental delay called sensory integration disorder which involves things like speech, motor control, he flapped his hands for a while, etc. Can your boy follow a simple command? Sounds like he can--- which is a great sign. Now, the important thing to know is that intervention can do wonders for a child. Have you talked to your doctor about this?
Avatar f tn My seven year old son had speech delay. He is in Ist grade and going for speech therepy in school . He had beads stuck in her both ears for almost 2.5 years, my poor baby,we were ignorant. Now also when we or my friends ask him some thing, he says "what" at least 2-3 times. When I asked why we have to repeat question, he said " he doesn't understand what we asaked". We didn't do any tests. We are bilingual family but speak only english with him.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
304970 tn?1331425994 Your ped may be right and he may be focusing more on his motor skills than verbal, BUT, I am not a fan of "wait and see" approaches and your pedi shouldn't be either. Early intervention is easy to find and usually free or cheap through state programs, and there's no harm in checking things out early (where there might be harm in waiting). I would ask for a referral for an evaluation with a speech-language pathologist.
908716 tn?1242633592 t do that instead he used to roll back and forth even until he was 1year..I showed to a development Specialist and they suggested for Physio Therapy, I started immediately and when he was 14months he started to sit on his own and i still continued the therapy and by 16-17 months he started crawling little and now his crawling much better at 20 months. I had discontinued the therapy for about two months that when he was 18 months and now i again started with the therapy for him..
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
Avatar m tn Taking him often for that length of time will, in fact, make it hard for him to sustain bonds. Babies are meant to be cared for by one or two constant caregivers, in a constant environment. Outings are great, meeting new people is necessary, but completely and totally switching environments and caregivers at his age is detrimental to his emotional growth. What happened so quickly in your marriage that you went from wanting a family to divorcing? Can this be worked out?
Avatar f tn For the past month he has started to show a little more eye contact, he lines his toys up, and gets mad if you knock thinkgs over. He does have sensory issues. He has seen a speech terapist for a year now and just started seeing a OT. Some people have told me that it could be ADHD, Asburgers, or mild form of autism. He loves to play with cars, and he has always observed Everything, even when he was just a couple months old.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
594330 tn?1219167188 I am worried sick about his lack of comprehension and am looking for answers. Today I had a child development specialist and a speech pathologist observe him and thespeech pathologist said she was more concerned with his lack of command following than use of the language. I don't know if maybe there are things I can try to do or change to help him reach this level of cognitve and communitive development.
470885 tn?1326329037 Around the age of one.... usually babies do repetitive speech, not how you and i would speak, so most likely your son is just repeating what he hears his older brother saying. Not to intentionally say hey mama! But just maybe bc it sounds cool..... or its fun to say...
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
667409 tn?1309152183 Okay, so here's some background for those of you who don't know: My last baby was big. Born at 36 weeks, 3 days (my water broke) and was 8.5 pounds. He was stuck for two hours, his shoulders were big...it wasn't pretty. At that time, I *wasn't* diagnosed with gestation diabetes. THIS pregnancy, I have GD. I go every four weeks for ultrasounds to check baby's size. My MD has been saying all along he would likely induce at 37 weeks given the GD and my history of a large baby.
168006 tn?1241012961 Hello Ladies, Since many of you are praying people, I wanted to ask you all to pray for Luke today. I am taking him to a speech pathologist this afternoon for an evaluation. It is difficult to explain everything behind it, but essentially, Luke says only about four to six words at nearly 22 months old. This would not be particularly scary, since I hear late talkers are actually pretty common, but the docs seem most concerned that he used to say about 20 words at 12 months.
Avatar f tn Yes! But their chances of having fewer problems (with their heart and respiration and brain development, eye development, etc.) are greater the longer they stay. There's a reason pregnancy is 40 weeks. Lung development is one of the LAST things to take place, usually in those last couple of weeks.
