Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
168006 tn?1241012961 So I am reading the comments and noticed something. All of you have sons that have this speech regression or speech issue. Is it more prominent in boys? I know that boys' speech development is usually later than girls. My 20-month old daughter says quite a bit and repeats everything we say, or tries to. But I have a nephew who is 4 months older than her and he says a few things but mostly grunts. So just wondering if this is predominantly a boy thing?
Avatar n tn My son is 26 months old and has been diagonised with speech development delay but now I am wondering if there is more to be concerned about. He was also slow/delayed at reaching gross motor milestones of sitting, crawling and walking. He flaps his armes when excited or agitated, and is compulsivily clean. He can be extremely affectionate one minute but then start hitting, biting and/or pulling hair.
470885 tn?1326329037 I think some doctors are just stupid. Anyone who has ever been around children know, that they are NOT all the same, and what is "normal" for one child might not be the case for another. Children learn in their own time how to do things. I was worried about my DS because he was doing everything early up until 7 months.
Avatar f tn He points at the things that he wants, or will bring them to me (if he wants to go outside, he might bring me his shoes). Up until this point, he has has a normal development. He was a month late on crawling, but he started walking when he was exactly 12 months old. I truely believe that his issue revolves around language development, but I don't know enough to be certain.
Avatar m tn Our prime concern for the boys is their mental and physical health and educational development. We took the boys to the maternal health nurse for the first time. The eldest was assest to have low functioning congnitive skills as the scores showed he was at least 12months behind.
Avatar f tn his physical development has always matched development milestones but his speech and language is delayed and he is having therapy for this without much real improvement.i started to be concerned by his speech and language and understanding around 12-18 months of age. my son is always active from swinging his legs or playing with his fingers while sitting to jumping up and down to running in circles.
Avatar f tn I am a mother of twin boys, they are both four years old at this point and both are very healthy, active individuals with their own personalities and everything, though they do like to be together they aren't exactly tied to being the same. My kids had shown signs of lacking desire to progress at all really, not really potty training until they were four and speaking didn't really start for them until they were around 3.
Avatar f tn t hear us), they are pretend playing (they pretend to be on the phone, they pretend to roll a train on the floor and make the train sound), their speech delay (they have not developed communicative speech, i.e they do say words and they know names of several objects; however, they are not using their language skill to communicate and make requests of things they want such as more milk or juice please and so forth)..

Avatar m tn Your son is showing some definite unevenness in his development. While his motor development appears to be intact, his cognitive development is not up to par, nor are his social and emotional development. Ask his pediatrician to refer him to a developmental pediatrician for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn There is often pseudo hypertrophy of the calf muscles and a waddling gait with a lordotic posture, which becomes more obvious as the condition progresses. Some boys may present with speech and language difficulties or global development delay. There may be a varying degree of intellectual impairment, which may be reflected in poor reading ability, comprehension and memory skills. God Bless!
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar m tn I am worried about will the speech delay cause the delay in all over development of my baby (Nightmare- NEVER want this) or it's just that she will be a late talker?
Avatar n tn It was hard to get him approved because the insurance company criteria said he had to be speech delayed or have loss of speech. I guess I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary for him to be seen based on that. Obviously that was just wishful thinking.
11218124 tn?1416289399 Hi there. I'd say he falls outside of normal for his verbal skills but it is great that he understands and can respond to what you say. He can follow directions. That's awesome and a good sign. I would keep reading to him often, let him watch your mouth when you speak, etc. There is a great cd that I had gotten on ebay called Speechercize that is mouth exercises to aid in speaking. Worth getting and doing . .. it's fun as it is made to keep young kids engaged.
Avatar f tn My little man did everything physically very fast and ahead of normal development but his speech was delayed. Freaked us out at 1st but he is catching up now at 2 1/2. I also agree boys are more rough so be patient. Its great having a baby boy.
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
