Common Questions and Answers about Speech development books

speech

Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
1664949 tn?1303075099 yes he gets speech therapy in school and once a week thru a outside speech therapist. He doesnt really sort them they just have to be in a straight line and facing the same direction. I will check the books out thanks..
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
Avatar f tn Maybe you could try either printing some material from the Internet on normal speech development of children at given ages, or get a book at the library on toddler development and see if milestones are given, and show them. Do you think he doesn't hear, or is it simply that he is not seeming to comprehend language? If you think it might be his hearing, also see what you can find of symptoms of hearing issues in small children.
Avatar n tn d also get some books to read to him from the library, books on emotions (I felt like a storm cloud, etc.), books on fairness (still reading to my 4 and 5 year old), books on being helpful and respectful. They make tons of these to help kids improve their social skills and be better at communicating feelings. I can totally relate to being embarressed at times when our kids are sticking out! Been there for sure.
659850 tn?1314743463 Thanks =) I was dying when I read the post about it being replenished every three hours!!!! I've read a ton of books, I get the weekly emails etc. and I'd never heard this!
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar m tn Simply go to the library or a good bookstore, ask the people at the desk where is the speech therapy section in the nonfiction section, and pick and choose some books until you finally find a couple that may help you. That's what that link was about, tips on books that helped people who stutter.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar f tn hi, my 2 1/2 yr old son has been diagnosed with global development delay but i think theres more to it. he has been seen by a peadiatric doctor, physiotherapist, O.T., social worker, speech and language therapist, health visitor and gp. i have looked into global development delay and think theres much more wrong with him.
Avatar f tn You go by the medical way of counting. I even have a book that says things like (in big letters) Sixth week and then in little letters (Fourth week since conception). All the milestones for a developing embryo are listed using the medical way of timing a pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar f tn There are two books by Dr. Thomas Sowell out there. There are also books on autism, too, but they may or may not pertain to your son. I like one by Dr. Greenspan who has this floortime method, that works also for kids who are not autistic. I'm sure other people can recommend lots of reading. What our speech therapist does is gives us homework assignments between visits, so we can work on things on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn Try the Mayo clinic and also, though I believe the chances are slim to none you may want to check some research by physicians doing research in nuerological development, MS, and Alzheimers. Anything that may be used as treatment is likely to experimental. Also if you have a syndrome name write pharmacuetical companies doing research.
Avatar f tn He is a whiz in math, has been reading chapter books since first grade, loves science and has a phenomenal memory. However, has always and continues to have very time with social skills. Is very immature socially, does not reciprocate well, doesn't share well, makes goofy noises at times, and, literally, does not stop talking, even on medication for ADHD. His persistent need to talk, comment on the topics being taught in class, correcting others, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi Rayyu. I am not a specialist but parent of a child with mild ASD in question - possibility of a mood disorder/ADHD combination. My son makes good eye-contact, communicates failry well, follows instructions very well, friendly with everybody in general, akward with peers, lot better with older and younger children. Most think he is "shy".
Avatar n tn Hello, My son is 21 months old and he says no words. He has a very short attention span and, while he will do certain (mainly very physical) activities for a longer period of time, he won't focus on anything that he doesn't want to, and when he gets upset about the most minor thing, he screams and cries and rolls around on the floor.
1667595 tn?1303333906 Can anybody help me or offer advice ? my son will be 3 in 8 weeks time and his speech seems to be developing slowly, he only recently came out with his first 3 word sentence ' Catch the ball ' and has only said it once, the only other sentence's he says is ' hello mummy ' or ' no mummy/daddy'..
Avatar n tn He complained of headaches, had slurred speech at times and a constant tongue throbbing thing for about 2 weeks during that time frame. Is it possible that this abscess may have been developing and causing his odd impulsive behavior then already. he is facing a 5 year felony charge for a stupid stupid action and for the massive area of the left frontal lobe that was compromised i cannot imagine that it could not be considered a factor in his behavior.
