Avatar n tn In several areas of his development (speech/language, impulse control, social) he is not keeping pace with what would be expected of his age. It would be wise to arrange a developmenatl evaluation. If you live in an area where you have access to a pediatric hospital, particularly a so-called teaching hospital, this should not be difficult to arrange.
Avatar n tn As for being bilingual, this seems to have nothing to do with when they start speaking. Three of my children were bilingual babies and one was trilingual. Very small children do not learn languages in the same manner as adults. You have nothing to worry about.

Avatar f tn If your son is repeatedly asking questions and needs you to repeat in order to understand, then he could be having some hearing loss—maybe brought about by the beads stuck in his ears. Hearing loss can delay speech development. Hence this needs to be first identified and then corrected. Please consult an ENT doctor and an audiologist. Take care!
5549102 tn?1376522673 s wonderful if you did teach him, however it is a language and children that sign are considered bilingual. Almost all children from bilingual backgrounds have a bit of delay in speech (I took a class on this not long ago - interesting stuff). If this is the case, no worries at all, he will catch up, and again, him having sign is a very good thing for him, so do not think you did anything wrong.
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar n tn In the Singapore context, parents are just sooooooo super nervous about their academic results. But preschool teachers here, been train in child development, we often try our best to give children fun things to do, rather than worksheets, worksheets, worksheets. Yuck! If i'm a child, i'll be so sick of doing all those worksheets.Unfortunately alot of parents will grumble and complain to our principal, if on that day we let children do lesser worksheets.
Avatar n tn I don't believe speech therapy is necessary for him, he may just be a quieter type of child who takes in alot from his environment, which isn't such a bad thing. For now, just do as you would normally and keep communicating with him. Encourage him to communicate with others aswell, which i'm sure you already do. I myself was a real quiet kid and wouldn't speak to anyone and was extremely shy, i just wanted to do my own thing and was happy to do so.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
Avatar f tn Like i would have to tell my husband to translate. Dont get my wrong yes i do want my son to be bilingual. My 8yr old is bilingual ever since i moved in with my husband. I love the fact my son can understand and speak both languages. Just worried i wont be able to communicate with the baby im pregnant with now.
Avatar f tn She understands what we tell her, she knows and points where the moon or the stars are, or get her slippers or eat her food. She loves to play with children. Does she just have delayed development? What are the things that I may do at home to improve her verbal development? I don't want to wait till she gets 2 years old and realize it's too late for me to do something about it. I am located in the Philippines and I am not sure that I will find an expert to help her.
Avatar f tn I have a speech problem and what didn’t help me was everybody reinforcing that I had the problem. That only willed the stronghold and made me believe it more. She’s still young tell her she can speak and when people speak they don’t think about what they are going to say they just speak. And just let her do it if she stutters or anything just wait for her to finish speaking. She’ll get it down and it would help to find out why she turned out that way. My dad made me stutter.
Avatar f tn The center did an eval of him, but said sometimes the results can be skewed because the test was administered while other children were in the room. They had his emotional development at 11 months and cognitive at 12 months.
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar f tn s time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response. If I say "did you play on the swing," she will answer with a "yes" or "no".

Avatar n tn My 32 Months old son can be so sweet and loving one minute and then if he is told to do something he does not want to do he Cry, yell, and throw things (his toys) We notice that other people don’t understand him when he is talking, so we get him speech evaluated, and he will start his speech sessions next week He was attached to his nanny so much (to the limit that he would think she’s his mum) and she had to leave couple of months ago to visit her family, and since then I notice that he would a

Avatar n tn At his 2 yr wellness check my ped. referred him to early intervention for speech delay. His expressive speech was found to be 50% delayed. It was also noted that he had a short attention span, high activity level, and was "sensory seeking". At the time I was working full-time and his behavior was a little off. He would jump on things, get incredibly frustrated, have tantrums, and hit me.
