Avatar m tn Your son is showing some delay in the area of speech/language, and this may be in the context of generally sound development overall. If the pace of his speech/language does not pick up some momentum over the next several months it would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a Speech/Language pathologist and/or arrange an Earli Intervention evaluation.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you

Avatar m tn My elder son is now 3 years and 4 months. His speech development is as slow as a kid who is 18 months to 24 months old. He started speaking 2 to 3 word sentences when he reached 3 years. He can identify pictures of family and relatives. Still he speaks some words which are quite meaningless. He has a few symptoms like slapping his hand on the face or hitting his head on the floor when he gets angry. He has been very interested in TV ads since 6 to 7 months of age.
Avatar f tn hi, I have a 17 months old daughter and she could only speak, Mama, Papa and Baba. Her new born screening was fine , my husband and I have normal language/verbal development. She understands what we tell her, she knows and points where the moon or the stars are, or get her slippers or eat her food. She loves to play with children. Does she just have delayed development? What are the things that I may do at home to improve her verbal development?
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
908716 tn?1242633592 I showed to a development Specialist and they suggested for Physio Therapy, I started immediately and when he was 14months he started to sit on his own and i still continued the therapy and by 16-17 months he started crawling little and now his crawling much better at 20 months. I had discontinued the therapy for about two months that when he was 18 months and now i again started with the therapy for him..
Avatar f tn The educators from the Child Development Center my son goes to (he's 3 years old), suggested I sign him up for Speech Therapy at the local elementary school because his speech is delayed. Apparently, by law, the school has to enroll him for this problem. I don't know if this law is state wide or national, but you may look into a Speech Therapy program at your local Elementary school as well.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar n tn He crawled around 7 months, he walked around 14 months. He spoke his first words (mama, baba, etc) at around 11 months. He started telling his wants and needs around 18 months to two years old. He potty trained at 3 , but he does have the occasional accident at night. He stays with my mom while I work and is hardley every around children. So when he does get around kids he gets so excited and energetic. I am worried about his social skills.
Avatar n tn I'm concerned with my son's development and behavioral problems. He is 33 months old, has vocabulary of about 50 words that only me and his mom can understand. We checked his hearing and everything is fine. We are bilingual and talking Croatian in our home. We read books to him in English and Croatian and he seems to enjoy that. Outside our home we talk English.
Avatar n tn I think pediatricians screen at 18 and 24 months for autism. A couple web sites I found helpful were: http://www.firstsigns.org http://www.info.med.yale.edu/chldstdy/autism/pddinfo.
Avatar n tn We didn't start to have concerns about our daughter until she was closer to two, though looking back on things, I should have started to question things earlier. If your daughter is speaking a lot of words and knows people's names, that's a great indication that she understands language and is social and interactive. Not to say that there's nothing wrong, but I wouldn't worry too much at this point.
293420 tn?1243142938 I requested this a few months ago and got a reply saying that it would be considered...but, still nothing. There are at least 5-8 posts per week about Speech/Language delays in the child development forum. I'm an SLP and my son has Apraxia (motor speech disorder). Not only do I have lots of advice to offer to parents of children with speech delays, but it would be nice to network with other moms going through the same experiences. Hurry!
Avatar m tn We began early intervention with my son when he was 14 months old, but he was not diagnosed with autism until 21 months. We began with speech therapy, occupational therapy, and special playgroups. My son has a lot of sensory difficulties in his mouth and head and then gets upset about being touched on the head, having his mouth or teeth cleaned and that sort of thing. We had to see a pediatric neurologist to get the diagnosis.
304970 tn?1331425994 I was jus reading in this parenting book that a lot of kids slow down on their verbal development between 18-24 months. They tend to focus more on motor development during that time. So, sounds like Ashelen is giving you the perfect advice on waiting till after his second birthday to get too concerned. Best Wishes!
Avatar f tn ) Certainly some of the behaviors that you describe may or may not be indicative of the early signs of an ASD (remember that, particularly at a very young age, there is quite a bit of variability in growth and development). Based on what you describe, however, I would not say that you are being “over concerned.” Below are several websites with information about ASD. You may find it helpful to review these sites to see if you think you need to take your son in for further assessment.
Avatar f tn The center did an eval of him, but said sometimes the results can be skewed because the test was administered while other children were in the room. They had his emotional development at 11 months and cognitive at 12 months.
342647 tn?1291107933 That is normal and it actually sounds like your baby might be advanced in the speech department! Just keep speaking clearly and talking a lot to them and they'll pick it all up. Your pediatrician will start assessing speech development during visits. At least they SHOULD. You might notice, as they do the exam, the doctor will ask your child questions like, "What's your favorite food? Do you have a special toy?" to coax them into talking to see how well they speak.
Avatar m tn Some Children are Potty Trained by eighteen Months, others are still in nappies at school. Some children are Dry, at night, by eighteen months, others are still Wetting at ten. Some children are Talking by fifteen months and others, quite frankly, are not talking by three. It's called 'Unequal Development' and, in all probability, this is simply what has occurred here. If, in say another year, there is no improvement, then speak to a Health Worker or Paediatrician.
Avatar m tn She knew her alphabet at 24 months (could put the letters in order and could name them out of order). She knew counting at 24 months. Numbers were her first words. She could color, shape, and size sort at 18 months and colors were her next words after numbers. She started doing puzzles early on. At 24 months she was doing 6 piece puzzles. At 2 1/2 she was doing 12 piece puzzles. Before she turned 3 she was up to 30 piece puzzles. Now she's at 40 piece puzzles.
Avatar n tn My 9 month old son was saying "mama" and "dada" at 6-7 months and seemed to be progressing normally. He now no longer will say "mama" or "dada" and seems to do more incoherent babbling. He has yet to learn clapping or engage in peek-a-boo. I also see he like to slap his hand on a hard surface in front of him, like a table or his high chair tray.
Avatar f tn he is 28 months and he has languagedelay development, after i saw a doctor he said that he has ADHD he saw him for 3, he recommended to us the speech therapy daily, after we started the speech therapy , he said that he should start to be under medication (Risperdal) my question is : is it that common to put a child that young under medication, or to diagnose him as ADHD , i am living in medial east.
Avatar m tn My daughter just turned 3 a few weeks ago. While she typically talks in 4-5 word sentences and displays an average vocabulary, I think she is struggling with some comprehension issues. If asked a question she doesn't know the answer to, she will automatically answer yes as opposed to thinking about it or responding with ''I don't know.'' I think she knows she's supposed to have an answer, but doesn't know what to do when she doesn't get what you are saying.
Avatar f tn It is better to take care of these issues when they are young. Speech is something that every human being needs and it is harder to acquire as the child gets older. At the age of two, he should be saying more than mom. Maybe he is using so much energy getting used to each side of the family every six months that he has no time to learn to talk!!!
Avatar m tn s got excellent eye contact, seems very social, plays with toys appropriately and has no repetitive behaviors at this point. He has not been diagnosed with anything but we have him in 5-6 hours a week of ABA and speech therapy. My question is he babbles with a lot of inflection quite a lot while he's looking directly at us for extended periods of time ---- uses his index finger many times pointing and shaking it at us.
Avatar n tn I have a 4 year old daughter and I'm worried that she may have a development problem. She can't focus on one thing for more than a couple of minute and she can't answer a question when asked. Anytime that any adult asks her somthing she only says off the wall things. She has also started being really rude to people but never me. I am worried that I need to get her tested before it gets worse.
