Avatar n tn Yes Fentanyl or any narcotic can effect our short term memories, regardless of our age. Physicians walk the fine line of memory impairment or pain management. It is my guess you would rather see your mother with some memory disturbances instead of dealing with chronic pain that would make her days and nights absolutely miserable.
Avatar m tn Afterwards i felt really spaced out and noticed that my concentration and memory was not working as well. Every afterwards for about 2 weeks i noticed my short term memory and thinking abilities were getting worse. I finally got a mri and eeg which came out normal. Avatar n tn Hi I don't know I am just a lay person but I would be cautious about using any sleep medication with untreated sleep apnea. I wonder if your symptoms are the result of the sleep apnea vs the medication. Disturbed sleep can leave you feeling tired and low oxygen saturation levels could explain poor memory. I don't know of any long-term effects of Remeron. I have read that increased blood fats could pose a risk for some people though. This is said to be rare.
Avatar n tn A company that does a lot of research on this is Life Extension, they have a magazine that has a lot of research in it and they sell a lot of so-called brain supplements. Up to you if you want to try any of them, but it's an area of a lot of research you can easily find.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar n tn But people with coronary artery disease at greatest risk of mental decline were those with a combination of risk factors, including high blood pressure, a past stroke, and diabetes, the study showed Two Johns Hopkins researchers who have been at the forefront of this field reviewed the evidence on short-term and long-term mental changes after bypass surgery.
Avatar m tn Most of the people do not remember names because they do not stress on remembering them. Although you are in age of 60s and most common memory problems come with this elderly age as an Alzheimer’s disease, it is essential other possibilities of memory loss like hormonal imbalance, stress/depression, and vitamin deficiency need to be evaluated thoroughly. In this disease, normal day to day activities have been affected more than memory loss.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm a 45 year male, that has been on antidepressants since I was 15 years old. Lately (over the lasts 6 months) I have been experiencing, extreme loss of short term memory. I'll be watching a tv show, it goes to commercial and I have absolutely no idea what program I was watching. When, say doing some bookkeeping, I will look at an invoice, and when I go to input the invoice # or what ever I have to go back to the invoice, sometimes 2 to 4 times...
Avatar f tn The reason that I have a fear of more memory damage or brain damage from certain meds or supplements is that while searching for medications and supplements to help with memory I have come across information that certain medications like aderall and others plus different types of supplements can actually cause memory damage with long term use, plus I already have memory problems and I don't need more and I am on other medications for other diseases that will have adverse effects when taken

Avatar n tn This was before I knew the effect of anticholinergic (acetylcholine inhibition). Now you can google and find lots of information on what medications do and don't posses anticholinergic activity. Given this experience, I think doing so would be valuable to you. My dad just passed 2 years ago from early onset Lewy Body Dementia, and my grandma, his mother, had passed from the same dementia 6 years prior.
Avatar m tn Have been on paxil for 10years+ but stopped because of new studies. Not doing well on an alternative drug(name??) Paxil sure worked for me without many side effects. I am 67 and my memory scares me ...forgot the names of people I have known for years and worked with on an interim basis..once or twice a year. Could this be caused by the Paxil.. Am I heading to dementia ? Or is it because I am off paxil?
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
