Common Questions and Answers about Soy protein workout

protein

Avatar f tn If you are working out you are building lean muscle, not losing muscle. Suggest getting your protein for food sources, not pills. Protein from food has additional vitamins and minerals and possible fiber, depending on the protein source. Recommend a regular multi-vitamin, without protein.
Avatar f tn Then, your post-workout fuel protein and carbs will mimic what you had before your workout. You should avoid fructose, that will prevent post exercise fat burning. Post workout meal should be a plant-based (but not soy) protein powder mixed with low sugar fruit (berries or cherries are perfect) and unsweetened coconut milk. If you have a post-workout meal, combine clean lean protein, slow-release high-fiber carbs, and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn I make stir fry with marinated tofu sometimes and always have light soy milk in my fridge and frozen edamame in my freezer. Whole grains are high in protein too. Whenever you buy cereals, pasta and bread, just look for whole grain varities. Same thing as legumes, you'll get the benefit of a higher fiber content also. You can also buy a good protein powder and make yourself a shake for breakfast or before a workout.
Avatar m tn I have started training for gaining muscles, but i am not sure if i should be using whey protein as i heard that if i stop working out later at some point in time, I will start putting on weight!!! Is this a side effect of taking whey protein and discontinuing its use??? Moreover, does intake of whey protein interfere with the blood tests done to check the thyroid profile? answers to these questions will be a great favor and highly appreciated.
Avatar f tn A 16-oz serving of low-fat (2%) chocolate milk has 64 g carbs, 16 g protein and 360 calories. If you’re a vegan, flavored pea protein, brown rice protein, or soy protein can be a substitution for chocolate milk. I don't recommend soy. But Paxiled will say don't listen to me about soy! LOL. Link for the chocolate milk: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23075563 Smoothies are great, they have everything you need, fluids, protein and carbohydrates.
Avatar m tn should i lift heavy weights during workout or light weights ??? some people says that heavy weight helps to gain mass while others say light weight is better ... So any one who can help me on this issue ?? PLEASE HELP ME !!
Avatar m tn What you need to do is research the forms of protein. Some soy protein is quite bad for people, some is quite good. Depends on the form. Same with whey. For building muscle, some prefer egg protein, but most seem to like the whey. Organic is great, but when you're isolating something down to the protein, it's more important it be done correctly. An organic product that uses the wrong kind of method of isolating the protein isn't going to be very helpful.
Avatar m tn Tryptophan is an amino acid. Protein is made up of amino acids. So the tryptophan is there because the protein is there. The label probably lists all kinds of amino acids, not just that one. Tryptophan would be unlikely to be added to a protein shake because it's the amino acid responsible for producing serotonin in the body, and is used as a sleep aid.
Avatar m tn pasta), low fat and substitute dairy products (1% milk, low fat/fat free yogurts, low fat soy milk/soy yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eat daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal).
Avatar f tn Well - you have got to have a liquid - so the options are water, milk, or soy/almond/rice/coconut milk. Then you have to have some source of protein. Other than protein powder, you are pretty limited. You don't want to use raw egg. You could use nuts or peanut butter. Other sources of protein such as cooked meat or fish wouldn't be particularly appetizing in a smoothie.
Avatar f tn t need to eat a lot of animal to get protein. Beans, especially soy, are very good sources of protein, as are nuts and seeds (as with the hemp mentioned above). Lots of ways to get protein.
Avatar f tn soy is a controvercy that will always be there. Many leading health writers now say its bad for the whole body, yet many still support it. Its though to steer away from it if you have thyroid issues. Its used in Asia for centuries in food, but the difference apparently is fermentation....... or not, and how much you are consuming.
Avatar f tn One study says no more than 30 mgs of soy protein per week, another says as little as 30 mg of soy isoflavones per day can affect people with hypothyroidism. I am also having difficulty in finding how much that is (e.g. is 1 mg soy protein equal to 1 mg soy isoflavones; the articles I have found state that 30 soy isoflavones is the amount found in 5-8 ounces of soy milk which only contains 10 mg of soy protein).
Avatar f tn I tried googling this earlier in my pregnancy and didn't like what I found... that none are really "good" for me or baby right now. I went with veggie & fruit smoothies and used soy milk as it had higher protein content (vs other but mills). But I want to know if anyone else has found out anything else!
Avatar f tn tofu, soy milk, soy yogurt, soy pudding, and soy ice cream. Incomplete proteins you need to combine foods such as beans and rice, pasta with vegetables, peanut butter and bread, nuts in salad, and beans with pasta. You can try any of the above to get protein in her for each meal. Milkshakes (milk, fresh fruit, and ice cream) are also good for extra protein too.

1291271 tn?1275493372 Simply put, aside from water (which you should already know you need) your post workout meal needs to contain 2 things, and it needs to not contain 1. You should be eating protein and carbs. You should NOT be eating fat. More on the protein and carbs you need a little later. First, let's start with a quick explanation of why you shouldn't eat fat after a workout.
Avatar f tn What is a good pre/post- workout supplement? I am looking to tone and slim down. I haven't really seen any results at the gym since January.
Avatar m tn m trying to determine cause. I recently read soy protein may cause male breasts to swell. I use it daily in a health drink I mix on my Vitamix. Wonder if soy could be causing the problem. or ????
Avatar f tn Cardio alone actually raises your body fat. Whats your diet like? Try increasing your protein intake. EAS makes a great pre- made low carb protein shake, Walmart carries it. I normally eat about 1500 calories.
9990306 tn?1407113138 t need animal foods to get protein -- nuts, seeds, and beans are all excellent sources of protein. Soy is the most complete of vegetable proteins that you can make a lot of things with, but any bean combined with a whole grain usually gives you a pretty complete protein. You don't need a protein shake, nobody does, for proper health -- shakes are either a shortcut for people in a hurry or for people trying to add lean muscle. Otherwise, you should get plenty from your regular meals.
Avatar m tn After struggling with on and off constipation I had put her on soy milk at the age of 4. Now, about 4 months later since I put her on soy milk I learned of the high estrogen content. I am concerned about this and wish to remove her from soy and try almond milk (she has no tree nut allergies). My concern is almond milk has very little protein. What should I give her to provide her with enough protein that cow's milk has? Do I give her protein pills?
