Avatar f tn Soy products/tofu are good sources of protein, however, if you have thyroid issues, you should not eat/drink soy. Beans and legumes are also good sources of protein, as are eggs, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) and whole grains. I don't eat soy, a lot of beans or legumes, so, unfortunately, I can't provide recipes, but you can do a search.
Avatar f tn Protein is an essential part of your diet and if you are skipping meat then you should try something like tofu or similar non vegetarian protein food to aid in your weight loss. Not only protein can curb your hunger but also can help you build muscles ( if you are working out) to burn more calories.
Avatar f tn m on a very strict nutritional program and typically eat two (6 ounce) servings of meat (chicken breast or eye of round) and 1-2 whey protein shakes per day. Different things I've read says that meat is to be limited to 5 ounces per day and no whey. Does anyone have any information on how our protein levels are reached with these limitations? I cannot eat nuts and one can only eat so many egg whites in a day.

Avatar n tn I would advise you to stay away from the soy milk. Soy is a well-known allergen, and it's NOT health food. http://search.mercola.com/Results.aspx?q=soy&k=soy In fact, soy is downright dangerous. I don't think it's a good idea to give babies and small children soy milk, especially if they already have these allergies you're talking about. The other information about what amounts to vegan recipes is a great idea.

Avatar f tn I think the rice protein powder should be fine, then, as long as it's the protein and not just brown rice powder. Soy is a more complete protein, but if you isolate protein, you've got protein no matter the source. And the almond milk is also a good source as long as it doesn't have too much sugar in it. You can also buy chicpea flour, though I'm not sure of the taste and it probably isn't digestible raw.
Avatar n tn I am allergic to soy and also struggle with what to eat in restaurants and what recipes to use. I searched "soy allergy" on line to learn the many different names for soy in food, make up, shampoo/conditioner and household products. (I printed the names on "word" and don't have the websites saved) I now read the labels before I buy anything I put on or in my body. I also carry an epi pen after learning from my dr. that I was in danger of anaphalyxis.
Avatar f tn Also soy, as in tofu, edamame, stir fry, etc. Try a Thai restaurant or recipes. My Japanese friend buys the firm kind and slices it, then stir fries it with vegetables and teriaki sauce and serves it over rice. What a delicious meal.
1464587 tn?1307491605 It seems to me from what I've read that most LLMD's are suggesting gluten free diets. I myself have been gluten free for nearly a year (I've cheated a couple of times for a piece of cheesecake), but for the most part, I'm pretty good. An added bonus is that you tend to eat much healthier when going gluten free which of course, is a good thing. I also try to stay diary free but am not as strict with that.
Avatar f tn pasta), low fat and substitute dairy products (1% milk, low fat/fat free yogurts, low fat soy milk/soy yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Eat daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal) and limit ‘junk’ foods.

Avatar f tn Well - you have got to have a liquid - so the options are water, milk, or soy/almond/rice/coconut milk. Then you have to have some source of protein. Other than protein powder, you are pretty limited. You don't want to use raw egg. You could use nuts or peanut butter. Other sources of protein such as cooked meat or fish wouldn't be particularly appetizing in a smoothie.
Avatar f tn soy is a controvercy that will always be there. Many leading health writers now say its bad for the whole body, yet many still support it. Its though to steer away from it if you have thyroid issues. Its used in Asia for centuries in food, but the difference apparently is fermentation....... or not, and how much you are consuming.
Avatar f tn One study says no more than 30 mgs of soy protein per week, another says as little as 30 mg of soy isoflavones per day can affect people with hypothyroidism. I am also having difficulty in finding how much that is (e.g. is 1 mg soy protein equal to 1 mg soy isoflavones; the articles I have found state that 30 soy isoflavones is the amount found in 5-8 ounces of soy milk which only contains 10 mg of soy protein).
Avatar f tn I tried googling this earlier in my pregnancy and didn't like what I found... that none are really "good" for me or baby right now. I went with veggie & fruit smoothies and used soy milk as it had higher protein content (vs other but mills). But I want to know if anyone else has found out anything else!
