Soy protein disadvantages

Common Questions and Answers about Soy protein disadvantages

protein

Avatar f tn Well - you have got to have a liquid - so the options are water, milk, or soy/almond/rice/coconut milk. Then you have to have some source of protein. Other than protein powder, you are pretty limited. You don't want to use raw egg. You could use nuts or peanut butter. Other sources of protein such as cooked meat or fish wouldn't be particularly appetizing in a smoothie.
Avatar f tn soy is a controvercy that will always be there. Many leading health writers now say its bad for the whole body, yet many still support it. Its though to steer away from it if you have thyroid issues. Its used in Asia for centuries in food, but the difference apparently is fermentation....... or not, and how much you are consuming.
Avatar f tn One study says no more than 30 mgs of soy protein per week, another says as little as 30 mg of soy isoflavones per day can affect people with hypothyroidism. I am also having difficulty in finding how much that is (e.g. is 1 mg soy protein equal to 1 mg soy isoflavones; the articles I have found state that 30 soy isoflavones is the amount found in 5-8 ounces of soy milk which only contains 10 mg of soy protein).
Avatar f tn I tried googling this earlier in my pregnancy and didn't like what I found... that none are really "good" for me or baby right now. I went with veggie & fruit smoothies and used soy milk as it had higher protein content (vs other but mills). But I want to know if anyone else has found out anything else!
Avatar f tn tofu, soy milk, soy yogurt, soy pudding, and soy ice cream. Incomplete proteins you need to combine foods such as beans and rice, pasta with vegetables, peanut butter and bread, nuts in salad, and beans with pasta. You can try any of the above to get protein in her for each meal. Milkshakes (milk, fresh fruit, and ice cream) are also good for extra protein too.
Avatar f tn Soy is known to cause stomach problems maybe stop and see if the pain subsides
Avatar m tn m trying to determine cause. I recently read soy protein may cause male breasts to swell. I use it daily in a health drink I mix on my Vitamix. Wonder if soy could be causing the problem. or ????
9990306 tn?1407113138 t need animal foods to get protein -- nuts, seeds, and beans are all excellent sources of protein. Soy is the most complete of vegetable proteins that you can make a lot of things with, but any bean combined with a whole grain usually gives you a pretty complete protein. You don't need a protein shake, nobody does, for proper health -- shakes are either a shortcut for people in a hurry or for people trying to add lean muscle. Otherwise, you should get plenty from your regular meals.
Avatar m tn After struggling with on and off constipation I had put her on soy milk at the age of 4. Now, about 4 months later since I put her on soy milk I learned of the high estrogen content. I am concerned about this and wish to remove her from soy and try almond milk (she has no tree nut allergies). My concern is almond milk has very little protein. What should I give her to provide her with enough protein that cow's milk has? Do I give her protein pills?
Avatar f tn We like almond milk the best, but it depends on the reasons for going off dairy. If it's lactose that is the problem for her, then soy is probably fine and tastes great, but if it's milk protein, then I have read that about 50% of people who can't tolerate dairy protein also can't tolerate soy protein. My son is one of them... which is why we ended up on the almond milk. Goat milk is also a nightmare for my son, he reacts worse to it than even cows milk!
Avatar n tn My midwife said to have it. Soy is not got andthats in protein stuff but Iif it says soy protein isolate thats okay.
Avatar f tn All items were Soy Protein. Is it possible that this can be a cause of my not getting pregnant? I am wondering how true the article was. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am needing to get a Whey protein without soy or isolates. I have read that you should not have soy isolates if there is a thyroid problem. Is this true? I used the whey protein for a couple of years. Can't prove that the nodule came after that. Cathy S.
Avatar f tn Soy products/tofu are good sources of protein, however, if you have thyroid issues, you should not eat/drink soy. Beans and legumes are also good sources of protein, as are eggs, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) and whole grains. I don't eat soy, a lot of beans or legumes, so, unfortunately, I can't provide recipes, but you can do a search.
Avatar f tn You get protein from plant sources, such as soy milk, rice milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream. As a vegan you need to combine grains and nuts / seeds for essential protein have to be used daily such as rice and beans, pasta and beans, nuts to oatmeal, peanut butter and bread, and salad and nuts. You can also eat the soy and rice products mention above. Eat more raw fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals.
Avatar m tn What you need to do is research the forms of protein. Some soy protein is quite bad for people, some is quite good. Depends on the form. Same with whey. For building muscle, some prefer egg protein, but most seem to like the whey. Organic is great, but when you're isolating something down to the protein, it's more important it be done correctly. An organic product that uses the wrong kind of method of isolating the protein isn't going to be very helpful.
Avatar f tn t do soy protein. Soy has estrogen in it.
Avatar f tn For a nine year old, this is complicated. Goat's milk is milk, and though it's easier on the human body than cow's milk, it's still milk, so the question is why milk is being discontinued. A lactose intolerant person might very well still be lactose intolerant to goat's milk, for example, but someone who has digestive problems with cow's milk might not with goat's milk. There's also a taste issue.
418700 tn?1212682049 in addition to all the nutrients and protein, soy contains a natural chemical that mimics estrogen, the female hormone. Some studies in animals show that this chemical can alter sexual development. And in fact, 2 glasses of soy milk/day, over the course of one month, contain enough of the chemical to change the timing of a woman’s menstrual cycle.
7177914 tn?1399518500 What are some foods that are high in protein besides chicken and beef? This pregnancy meat isnt sitting real well with me and I'm wondering if my lack of protein could be why I continuously keep getting sick... I've heard salmon, brussel sprouts, both I love, beans which I'm not a fan of... any other ideas lovlies?? I'm also hoping if I get more protein maybe I won't constantly feel like I haven't eaten in days... lol TIA!!!
Avatar f tn m a vegetarian so I get my protein from tofu and other foods made from soy, beans, nuts, and dairy products. You don't know all the ingredients in the protein powder so I'd ask my doctor about it.
Avatar f tn You get protein by using dairy products which can come from animal or plant sources, such as, milk, soy milk, rice milk, yogurt, soy yogurt, cheese, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream. For the plant protein, you need to combine grains and nuts / seeds for essential protein have to be used daily such as rice and beans, pasta and beans, nuts to oatmeal, peanut butter and bread, and salad and nuts.
6231275 tn?1379901818 I in no way would recommend anything like soy products for various reasons. Some examples of veggie protein are beans(13.4g), seitan(21g), or you could buy a veggie supplement/protein drink. So pretty much go towards more plant based for the first phase. Once you've lost at least 50% or most of the weight you needed to loose you can add in that *little* vegetarian cheat now and then. 1-2 times a week or so.
