Avatar n tn Am on the south beach diet and am type 2 diabetic. My glucose reading is 87 which is low for me. Am feeling very shaky and weak. Ok to have something with sugar and not ruin my efforts?
484844 tn?1253968693 ve been on the South Beach diet before. I liked the emphasis on good fats, but found the 1st 2 weeks, where your carb intake is so severely restricted, to be beyond what I wanted to do. I've heard its supposed to be very good for people with insulin resistance, but I couldn't stay on it long enough to gain any real results. I did lose weight, but regained it pretty quickly when I couldn't make it into a life long change.

Avatar n tn Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you know anything about heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat.The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. This diet allows more latitude and can still get a person to the recommended targets.
325405 tn?1262290178 My doctor recommended South Beach diet and thinks with diabetes it is an excellent diet to pick since it focuses on carbs and lean meats and watching fats as well as carbs. I think I will skip the phase I of the South Beach diet... my blood sugar levels were going too low when I tried it the first day. So, I am starting on Phase II instead, and my sugar levels are normal now.
Avatar f tn I just have to say again, how happy I am doing the South Beach diet! It is sooooo easy! I just want to be a source of inspiration for anyone who is trying it out! As I said in another post, nothing was working for me. This WORKS! If you follow the plan correctly it is not a fad diet. It is a way of life. You eliminate carbs the first 2 weeks and after that you slowly reintroduce them.
393685 tn?1425812522 the SOUTH BEACH diet plan. I have lost 12 pounds in a little over 5 weeks. I have slowed down a bit, because I went to phase 2 which says it will slow down, but I am able to enjoy my carbs also which keeps me honest! I have been struggling for so long and reached my highest weight of 148 pounds back in September/October. I am only 5'1" so it was very uncomfortable and had to buy new clothes in big sizes. I am down to 136 and want to get down to about 125-128.

193609 tn?1292180293 It has always been hard for me to lose weight (now I know why) but I am considering the South Beach Diet. Anyone have good luck with that diet? I already work out, so now I just need to make sure my diet is in check. I have been counting calories and staying under 1300 but I don't think that is going to be most effective for me now that I know that i have severe PCOS. Doc told me that my testosterone level was high, even for a man!!
Avatar f tn I just want to report how thrilled I am with the south beach diet! It has been a real struggle for me to lose weight the past year or two. And, not only losing weight, but Gaining a tremendous amount! I tried so many other plans with no success...a friend of mine told me about South Beach...and I said, "hey! that is one that I haven't tried yet!"...so, even though I was skeptical I bought the book...Here I am 12 pounds lighter and feeling great!

Avatar f tn Are you doing South Beach Diet or something? I would say back off and try a general low cal. diet like Weight Watchers instead of something as drastic as SB. Try to eat a balanced diet every day.

1267460 tn?1270259192 I believe that the paleo diet did not originally involve grains. Grains were not introduced into our diet until agriculture came into being. Most people where "hunter/gatherers" so they ate only what they could find seasonally. Of course, the closer you get to fresh food, the better it is for you; that's why we recommend that you shop around the "outside walls" of your grocery store.
Avatar f tn I like the paleo diet. My weight loss had stalled for a long time, and now I'm losing again on the paleo diet. There's a lot of information out there about the paleo diet, nowadays. A book called The Paleo Approach is a good introduction. I also like the PaleoMom website, and she also has a book that has just come out. Nom Nom Paleo is another good source. In effect, the paleo diet is a low-carb diet, because you don't eat any grains.
Avatar f tn Does she have a buffalo hump on the top of her spine, where the spine meets the neck? The areas where you say she has weight gain can occur with high cortisol levels - cortisol comes from the adrenal glands that sit on top of the kidneys. I've also read that PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can mimic high cortisol weight gain. PCOS is associated with carbohydrate intolerance. It's possible the South Beach diet isn't restrictive enough for her. She might need Atkins.
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.
439464 tn?1213827634 Arthur Agatston, the author of "The South Beach Diet" and "The South Beach Heart Program" is a renown cardiologist. In his South Beach Heart Program book he writes extensively about "aggressive prevention" of heart disease. Aggressive management your blood pressure, diet, triglycerides and cholesterol are strongly recommended in his book.
Avatar m tn Thank you for reading my question. I was at the grocery store, at the self checkout and began checking out. Once I had rung up, I looked down and saw a bunch of dime to quarter size droplets all over the area for scanning. I could not tell if it was blood or not, but it looked like it could have been. I was not bleeding, so it may have been a person right before me. I believe that in scanning my purchases I ran my shirt sleeve through it (maybe my hand).
