Avatar n tn Am on the south beach diet and am type 2 diabetic. My glucose reading is 87 which is low for me. Am feeling very shaky and weak. Ok to have something with sugar and not ruin my efforts?
Avatar f tn Are you doing South Beach Diet or something? I would say back off and try a general low cal. diet like Weight Watchers instead of something as drastic as SB. Try to eat a balanced diet every day.
676032 tn?1315674063 Take a peek at the Zone diet and South Beach plan - this may help you with weight issues if that is what you are asking about. What way do you mean "help" with hypothyroidism?
Avatar f tn The South Beach Diet. Recmmended by many doctors including our resident medical expert in the professional forum. Buy the book and/or sign up for their internet program. http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/funnel/v2/index.aspx?
325405 tn?1262290178 My doctor recommended South Beach diet and thinks with diabetes it is an excellent diet to pick since it focuses on carbs and lean meats and watching fats as well as carbs. I think I will skip the phase I of the South Beach diet... my blood sugar levels were going too low when I tried it the first day. So, I am starting on Phase II instead, and my sugar levels are normal now.
Avatar m tn Either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you have heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat. The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. This diet allows more latitude and can still get a person to the recommended targets. Get to and maintain your ideal body weight. One way to judge your ideal body weight is via body mass index (BMI).
Avatar f tn Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you know anything about heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat.The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. Avatar n tn I finally lost my hypothyroid weight after several years initially using the South Beach diet. It took me about 4-5 months before I realized the results and assured they were profound. I second the comment regarding taking your meds at a consistent time. This allows your body to maintain equilibrium and perform internal processes more efficiently, thus giving you more energy to burn calories and feel better as a whole.
184674 tn?1360860493 Hmm, favorite things. Being with my family. Traveling around seeing new and different places. I LOVE the beach, I love watching the water and listening to the waves crash on the beach. Unfortunately, I don't live near a beach right now but I'm craving it! I love the mountains, too, love driving up and looking at all of God's beautiful creation. I love good food when it's prepared by someone else! Lol I love horseback riding. Don't do it enough. I love being outdoors.
484844 tn?1253968693 ve been on the South Beach diet before. I liked the emphasis on good fats, but found the 1st 2 weeks, where your carb intake is so severely restricted, to be beyond what I wanted to do. I've heard its supposed to be very good for people with insulin resistance, but I couldn't stay on it long enough to gain any real results. I did lose weight, but regained it pretty quickly when I couldn't make it into a life long change.

Tbd A great way to do this is by the Agaston or South beach diet . You are gauranteed to lose weight if you follow each of the stages . It provides a structured way to lose weight but also to keep it off .
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.

1299272 tn?1312476830 I have recently started following the South Beach Diet and it is great for meeting your daily protein needs! For me personally, it has been very effective and I have lost 5 pounds just in the first 5 days!!! Huge motivating factor for me!
Avatar f tn It would help if I had a list of foods to go grocery shopping for, and what I could or couldn't eat.
1097839 tn?1344579942 hi all I decided I wanted to lose weight at Christmas. I've been ill with an underactive thyroid and put on about 20 pounds over the last 12 months. I hadn't really noticed it creeping on till christmas because I'd been so ill I was just in a bit of a daze! But since then I've been really paying attention to what I eat and willing the scales to go in the other direction but without much success yet. At least I seem to have stopped gaining.
Avatar f tn I like fruit so I chose this diet program. Another one is the South Beach Diet that I did as well, that one is good too but I miss fruit, LOL! Good luck!
451075 tn?1210258648 For example, years ago I did South Beach and lost a good amount of weight (probably 20 pounds). It seemed that the very minute I ate one piece of bread, I gained 5 pounds. I'm exaggerating just a bit (not much), but you are limiting yourself to a far, far greater degree than even Atkins or South Beach condones. You will regain if you severely restrict yourself and simply resume a healthy diet afterwards. If you can then keep eating in a healthy manner and relose the weight, great.
1466015 tn?1286304436 My stomach is shrinking and so is my desire to eat foods. The south beach diet will help you drop lots of weight fast and is not that hard to stay on. The smoothie is just plain easy and I have no clue why its working. Either way, you will lose weight if you try one of these approaches. The south beach diet can also be used if your cooking for your kids and husband. They may not like it that much, but the meals are heathy and you can add a bit more for them if it is needed.
Avatar f tn I am not yet on medication, but instead my doctor suggested I follow the South Beach Diet. In a short time, I have already lost 5 pounds. I had a very hard time losing weight in the past, but this seems to be working better than others I have tried. You have the right idea about cutting the carbs. Another prediabetes book I have been reading mentioned shooting for less than 30g per meal. South Beach takes you even further during Phase 1 which lasts the first two weeks...

Avatar f tn I just have to say again, how happy I am doing the South Beach diet! It is sooooo easy! I just want to be a source of inspiration for anyone who is trying it out! As I said in another post, nothing was working for me. This WORKS! If you follow the plan correctly it is not a fad diet. It is a way of life. You eliminate carbs the first 2 weeks and after that you slowly reintroduce them.
Avatar f tn I keep my daily intake of 1000 calories to at times less but it takes nothing to make my weight go up.I have been on a vegan diet to South Beach diet with out loosing a pound so yes I do work at it.As far as exercising friends have said I never sit still am always working so it isn't that I am lazy.If some one can come up with a good doctor in LV,NV I wouldn't mind going but I have seen doctors here and never get the same info no matter what the tests or results are.
