Common Questions and Answers about Sore throat and vomiting

throat

Why is it that others can make themselves vomit, but I cannot? I tried for almost 20 whole minutes, became diheartened (quit), and had a sore throat the next few days. I have lost some weight in the past few months and I doubt the doctor will want to prescribe me something that induces vomiting especially after I've gained a few pounds over the past few weeks.
My throat has been dry and sore for the past 6 days and it hurts to eat and swallow, but also ive been having headaches. I've been drinking along of water and orange juice to see if it will help my throat but it hasnt and i just looked in my mirror and my tonsils had white stuff on them. I gargled with warm salt water but it didnt help at all.
My 14 year old daughter has had 7 bouts of vomiting and abdominal pain over the last 7 weeks. Symptoms have varied, but all episodes involved one or more bouts of vomiting and intermittent abdominal pain, always at the navel. The first two episodes included low-grade fever, sore throat and difficulty swallowing. Last five episodes had no fever. She has tested negative for strep.
I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. It's good that you've got a doctor's appointment to get checked out. This could be a number of things, from a low grade infection, to a virus that's lingering, to allergies, to an autoimmune disease such as lupus (one of my first symptoms of lupus and one that continues to "tell" me when I'm having a flare is a lingering sore throat and extreme fatigue with no other known cause) During these times, do you run any fever? Any nausea/vomiting?
got flu shot on Dec 4, 2013 been sick ever since, started feelling little under the weather, then coughing with crazy unheard amounts of green mucus came up with the cough, lasted for almost a month, then my throat so sore it was almost making me cry, sore throat and ear pain mostly on right side, the pain was feeling like it went from throat to jawbone and jawbone made teeth feel very sore, looked like strings of green pus in very back of throat, pus also in the folds of my tonsils on the side
The next morning, my throat was sore. I assume that this was from the acid coming up and severely burn my esophagus. I figure it would go away in a couple days, however its been over 2 weeks and I still feel it. It is not really sore, but I feel like there is something when I swallow. It feels like an object is in my throat. It is not painful, but it agitates me. I tried lozenges, but that didnt really help either. Is this something I need to get check?
It will go away with meds for a few hours, but I do not want to keep taking those. I also have a sore throat, and stiff neck. This is all on my right side for the most part. I forgot to mention in the doctors post that I have wisdom teeth coming in, which could somehow be related I suppose. I do not have any dizziness/vertigo/vomiting/nausea/upset stomach/muscle pain nothing but a sore throat, horrible headache, and stiff/hurting neck.
Since then every time I throw up from being sick from some bad food, my entire chest and throat is sore for almost a week, so that I am not able to take in deep breaths because it is slightly sore. Is this permanent? Have I damaged my esophagus for life?
In order to relieve the terrible feeling of nausea and dry heaves I triggered my gag reflex by sticking my finger down my throat and I vomited bile. I have generalized weakness, loss of appetite but NO fever, sore joints, bloating or diarreha. The nausea subsided for about 48 hours but it returned today with the same outcome. Nausea and vomiting bile. What does it mean when you vomit bile?

Tell her not to pick up and eat any food products that have fallen on the floor and ground because they are then contaminated and cause the poorly tummy. Even when she does not feel like eating, make sure she drinks plenty of fluids so she does not become dehydrated. Give her jello if she likes that (that will help with her fluid intake). Make sure that any raw fruit and veg she eats is washed first. Make sure she has a breakfast in the morning and also a good sleep pattern.
For the past few days I have had a nonstop throbbing headache, mostly on my right side from the middle down through my ear through my neck. I also have a sore throat and a stiff neck on the same side of the headache. I have no insurance and last time I went to a clinic it ended up costing me an arm and a leg and I have no money for that right now. Could it be an infection? cancer? strep throat? what's the most logical answer at this point.
The following week, her symptoms changed. The vomiting and diarrhea went away, but the abdominal pains and sore throat remained. She would only eat a tiny amount every day. She continued to complain of reflux. At the end of the second week, they put her on Prevacid to help with the reflux symptoms. The third week, the doctor did an abdominal x-ray which showed everything was fine.
i also havent tried prevacid, and stopped prilosec and zofran (antivomiting medicine) over the last 2 days.

I never actually vomit when this happens, I just get a sore throat and stomach from all the dry-heaving. If anyone has any idea what this could be that would be a massive help. Thanks.
After the bout with the vomiting I went to bed and woke up the next day with the muscles in my ribs sore from heaving. Then the following day (24 hours post vomiting) I had this sensation of a lump in my throat. There is no physical lump that can be palpated, but it feels as if something is stuck there. Its incredibly uncomfortable, but I've noticed that it fluctuates in severity of discomfort (although it hasn't gone away completely at any time).
I'm having a sever cough since two weeks that leads to vomiting and the cough makes me breathless and today I started having a throat ache. The vomiting and the cough increase when I eat and during my sleep. I asked someone and he said its a stress affair and I should visit a Dr but I've been busy so could you please help? AND its the first time yo experience this.
For about a week now,my tongue feels like I burned it. My throat is sore, but mostly I can't talk right or taste because of my sore tongue. What could I do to releave this situation?
Or, it can be red/irritated, with a series of tiny red dots on the uvula (the part that hangs down in the back of the throat). 2nd, you can have extreme upset stomach, accompanied by vomiting, and 3rd, you can have a head ache. My kids, for example, rarely get the sore throat. They always throw up...and their throats will be red, but doesn't hurt. Fever typically accompanies strep, and usually an antibiotic is required to get rid of the bacteria.
Now about 5-6 days later my voice is really hoarse, deep and croaky plus im getting abit of acid reflux. Can vomiting so much and the acid effect my throat causing it to be sore along with damaging my vocals chords causing the hoarse voice? Or should i see a doctor?
We thought at the time she either had a sore throat or nausea virus as she was holding the food in her mouth and refusing to swallow. She also stated hiccoughing violently after food and then later vomiting clear liquid at the first few mouthfulls. In the past ten weeks three of us have been struggling to get her to eat or drink by giving her lots of tiny amounts. She has maintained her weight of about 6.5 stone.

Side Effects and Complications There are really no serious problems associated with manometry. Slight gagging is normal during the exam, and a temporary sore throat may be present afterward. Summary Esophageal manometry is a very valuable method of recording and evaluating the muscular function of the esophagus. The test is simple and quick to perform. With this information, the physician can usually develop effective treatment for most patients with esophageal muscle disorders.
it is sore at my tonsils and below my nasal passage openings) but not much of a cough. This sore throat tends to go away as the cough returns each day--after about an hour the sore throat is gone and the occasional cough has returned. I thought these symptoms were a bit odd, so I'm asking here!
