Sore throat and dry cough

Common Questions and Answers about Sore throat and dry cough

throat

For about 8 days, off and on, I've had a dry throat and cough. It started kind of sore, more dry than anything, now my throat is so hoarse and dry, that I'm coughing all the time. Everytime I swallow, I cannot get it moist. I drink constantly, I also came down with a bladder infection, now I'm taking Cipro for that so I'm always drinking. What can I do. I feel like I have to cough all the time. The past few days it's been only at night. Nothing comes up.
Please be carefull. I had a extremely dry and painfull sore throat for the first 3 months of treatment. It was first DX as a bacterial infection which was incorrect. after it came back 2 more times my GI diagnosed it as a yeast infection, which was correct. The only problem was that by this time it was in my system and the Lozenges (clotromazole) that were prescribed didn't work. Then I went to a ENT that gave me Fluconozole (Systemic treatment) that didn't work either.
It was preceded by sore throat and persistent cough (dry cough). The mucus sometimes looks green in color. Took some antibiotics and cough syrup too, but didn't work out.
Hi, Woke up this morning, with a very ticklish dry cough, and a bit of a raw "sore" throat. Looked inside my mouth and saw this: (Caution....) http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6765/27974474.jpg http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9695/92436451.jpg It's a bit disgusting, no clue whats happening, going to doctors in 2 days as the local is closed and a bit far away from the nearest hospital...or does this warrant an emergency drive? Please help! Thank you!!!
Hello, Sore throat for 2 days, and dry cough for 5 days, no runny nose nor congested. Does this sound like a cold or an allergy?
The symptoms of tuberculosis generally involve a sore throat and a dry cough or wet cough with blood in sputum. I would suggest you consult your PCP and get a X-ray of chest and take a proper course of treatment and see if the symptoms disappear. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I also have the same thing mine going weeks now..
We are now into spring and I'm still experiencing the little something in my throat that develops into a sore throat, coughing and phelgm. It will last about 2 and half weeks, clear up, and 3 weeks later start all over again. I saw my doctor a month ago and told her. She said its likely to be allergies and not something bactrial because of the on and off pattern. She perscribed me fluticasone propionate nasal spray.
It starts with a sore throat and cold later. I use Cepacol and Tylenol cold. The cold is over in a week and after that I have an itchy inside my throat which causes me to cough a lot. When I am coughing, it is coming out a clear, salty liquid. I am not sure it is mucus because when I have a thick, yellow mucus, I don’t have an itchy and coughing problem. I go to see doctor and he gives me antibiotic for upper body for 7 days and it is gone. However, it is not a good idea to take antibiotic.
My nose has also been kinda stuffy, on and off. Not runny, just stuffy, like an allergy/sinus. I looked at my throat and noticed that the back of my mouth (I think thats the tonsils) are red, some days its worse than others. I thought it could be mono but I dont have any other symptoms. I know some STDs show symptoms of a sore throat but I dont think its that either, and I dont have anything on the inside of my mouth. I dont have a fever, swollen lymph glands, fatigue, cough, headache...
I have been waking up every morning for a couple of months now with a sore throat and when I clear my throat there is some blood in my saliva. If I get up in the middle of the night it happens as well. In fact anytime I have been asleep and wake up there is some blood in my saliva. I know that I snore. My brother says he thinks it's a nasal infection but why would it last this long? I was laid off for two months and just recently started working again.
he has no fever and no other symptoms but it is not like a dry cough, it sounds like there's some mucus there and everytime he does cough, it seems like it bothers him. like maybe his throat is hurting or scrtachy? i am taking him to the dr. tomorrow anyway for his 10 month checkup but i just wanted to know if theres anything i should/could be doing in the meantime.
Ever sine then, my throat has been bothering me. I have a dry cough with little phlegm and its very painful to swallow. Could the oral performance be a factor of my sore throat?
We got married 5 years back and she is struggling with Dry Cough regulary ( avg 25 to 30 times a day) and and Throat infection intermitantly( once in 6 to 8 weeks). She have this problem more than 6 or 7 years. Cough is neither very strong nor because of cold. She will go to the doctor when the throat infection is severe and get some antibiotic as a temperory solution. She undergone test for TB (Tubarclosis) and results were negative.
I'm on week 12 and have had a sore throat and dry cough throughout. What helps for me is a warm mist humidifier I run all night while sleeping. I don't know about everyone else but this tx has dried me out. My skin is horribly dry and scaly, my eyes are so dry I use a dry eye solution every day. My scalp has actually developed dry patches. It just stands to reason your interior will become dried out too. Sometimes water doesn't even quench my thirst and only something like Gatorade will work.

Hi I have sore throat from last 3 weeks. few days back my sore throat has almost gone and came back next day. First 2 weeks I had mild sore throat with mild cold & mild dry cough. few days back I got couple of ulcers in mouth (near throat)& very tiny few red spots on tongue. from last week some times i'm getting light pain in ears. I had sore throats before, but never last more than a 10 days & i never had ulcers or any other mouth problems in last 20 years except sore throats.
I use a solution of 2 tsp salt and 2 tsp baking soda in a quart of water. I rinse and gargle as often as I can. This has helped with mouth sores, dry mouth, sore throat, etc.
Hello, The most common silent reflux symptoms are hoarseness of voice, sinusitis, chronic cough, throat-clearing, post-nasal drip, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath etc. Other causes of blood in phlegm are bronchitis, throat infections, bronchiectasis etc.It is suggested to see an ENT specialist and get examined. You may need tests like complete blood counts, ESR,endoscopy and X-ray chest. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Keep me posted on how you are doing.
I keep reading that asthma comes with a DRY cough. Mine is productive. I'm taking Singulair, (daily) and Proventil (as needed) but I still wheeze on the inhale and I'm coughing up stuff. Is this a normal part of asthma or should I be looking for something else? Thanks so much for your comments.
Do you still have the sore throat? Do you have a high fever? Usually, with a strep throat you don't have a cough or other symptoms. So this sounds like a virus rather than a strep throat. So, when you went it to the doctor what were your symptoms to start with? If you only had pus in the throat and a sore throat with a fever you had strep throat. Then if they did a strep test and it was positive the antibiotics didn't help the sore throat? Then I would say you need another antibiotic.
My throat at times feels really raw and sore at the back and I am always clearing my throat with a dry cough. I never get colds or the flu, maybe once every four to five years. I told my doctor and after checking me out she said it was allgeries and offered to prescribe me a throat spray..but I declined as I do not suffer from this all of the time. For me it is not unbearable.
About 5 weeks ago I developed nasal congestion accompanied by mild sore throat followed by a dry hacking, croupy cough with 24 hours. The cough was unresponsive to robitussin or Tessalon perles, so within 3 days I had to make an appt. with my doctor to get some medication to help me and my family get some sleep. She agreed to give me some cough syrup codeine, which had worked in the past, but suggested I might try albuterol inhaler. It was amazing!
I have had this cough for 4 months now. The dr has changed my diagnosis everytime I go (which is frequent). The cough starts with a tickle in my throat, which makes me cough this loud obnoxious cough that feels and sounds "dry" but produces this sometimes thin, sometimes thick white/clear mucus. This happens all the time, day night whatever.
Not sure if this has anything to do with HIV? Also I got dry cough and feeling low (no fever, or swollen glands) since a week now, even though the medication helps (Strepsils, Lemsip, hot drinks, honey and lemon), I am still worried. I'd like to get tested, but I'd need some professional health advice, if I'm gone mentally crazy or that I should do the test? I've read everywhere that people MAY NOT develop any symptoms at the early stage. Thank you for your help.
