Sore scalp to the touch

Common Questions and Answers about Sore scalp to the touch

sore

it's been a week that my skin is sore to touch on my scalp. I shave my head and it feels as though i have scraped it with the razor but there is no sign of any soreness or bruising. Interesting to see so many people have suffered it for so long and yet no one knows the answer. Has any one reported this to the NHS?
For a good few days I have a patch on the bottom left of my scalp which is very sore to touch. It does just feel like that feeling you get if your hair has been tied up tightly. I also have a couple of weird marks on my face - very small just like the skin has rubbed off? I had a tattoo and nose piercing a week or so ago - am I being paranoid? Any connections?
I didn't think much about it until the pain at my feet and arms started increasing and it dawned on me that the top of my head is another peripheral of the body. It feels somewhat like a sunburn, sore to the touch and aggravated by brushing it.
I recently had an area of my throat that hurt when I swallowed. On the second day I woke up with a feeling on the left side of my face and scalp that was "tender to touch." It stopped at the midline. I saw an ENT doctor the next day and had an endoscopy of my sinuses and throat and nothing appeared to be irritated or abnormal. The throat pain is gone and the discomfort in my face is completely gone and the scalp discomfort is almost gone. The entire duration was 4-5 days.
Basically, for about 24 - 48 hours, an area of skin (generally from the size of a softball to basketball) will become extremely tender and sore to the touch ... almost as if it were bruised significantly. It is so tender that clothes brushing against it is painful. The problem is, there is no visual evidence of it. I went to the doctor and felt as though he was insinuating that I was making up the symptoms because he could not see anything. Very, very frustrating.
I have sore hard bumps on scalp. I have been to two dermatoligst, with no success for two years. They hurt and itch. They gave me shampoo, pills, and injections. They seem like they don't know what it is.
I have painful sores on my scalp. They are swollen and painful to the touch. When I squeeze them they bleed, but the blood is watery. Sometimes the sores go away entirely, but other times I seem to get many of them - maybe 5 - at the same time. I see from a Google discussion on the subject that this is quite common, but no one seems to know the cause.

Past primary care doctors have not been concerned with it. Over the past few days, it has become inflamed - red, larger, sore to the touch and a little tingly. I've made a dermatologist appointment but can't get in for about a week. Any advice? Should I be worried?
I wanted to add that I think I have a couple more sore areas like that, more on the left side of my head, if I press hard on them they hurt, near the first one and that this all started when I was about 5 months pregnant (4 months ago) and I had shoulder blade/neck pain and numbness down my left arm and pain in a sort of fishhook shape from the base of my neck to the top of my head. The doctor thought it was a compressed nerve, something related to the pregnancy.
I had the stabbing several times through out the day and now my scalp is SO tender. It hurts to touch. I used to get migraines monthly, but after 3 children, no more migraines. I will go to my doctor soon to check this out, but I am worried about this. I keep reading about "ice pick" headaches, but do they leave their victims with sore scalps afterwards? My pain is on the left side and almost on top of my head. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
My scalp is really dry ,itchy ,sore all over to touch and I have crusty lumps like pimples in my scalp which are sore ,nothing the Dr has given me seems to ease it ,any advise what this could be please ?
I have a recurring bump on my scalp, which is very tender to the touch. Accompanying this bump (which is impacting an area of approximatly 3-inches in height in length) is a VERY tender and swollen lymph note on my neck. I get these bumps in various parts of my scalp multiple times a year. After the initial swelling, a open sore appears that itches and drains liquid, taking weeks to heal.
I'm having the same problem only on the back of my legs...It doesn't hurt to walk...but very sore to the touch. When I'm off I don't have the problem...Sometimes I take off just to help my legs...by the way I'm a 61 year female......can someone help or tell me whats going on>???
My hair has also started to fall out and at the end of my hair, a white little grain is at the end. Hair will not stop falling out. I have gotten blood tests at a dermatology office and everything was normal. I also have tried about very type of zinc pyrithione shampoo, at the highest concentrations. Also I have tried, salycylic shampoos, tar shampoos, jojoba oil, AND nothing seems to help. Please help me and my hair.
To me, the tx flu-like symptoms include my skin being sore to the touch...my scalp as well. The sore skin doesn't always occur for me every week tho, just from time to time. I am fortunate enough to have a hot tub, it seems to be the best therapy for me & I use it every day. It helps me SO much to soak for 10-15 minutes. It helps me with the sore skin, joint & body aches, stress & just plain relaxation. If you don't have a hottub, try just soaking in the bathtub.
I am having pain just on one side of my scalp. It is so tender it hurts to touch my hair. My ear on the same side is sore and I have a small knot behind it,which is also tender. What should I do?
They appear to be spreading and are slightly tender, sore to the touch. On the second day I am experiencing occasional stabs of pain from the area, similar to headache pains and short in duration. Rash, insect bite, serious?
Sometime I would get these small bumps on my scalp that would be sore. To relieve the soreness I would pull out the hair on the bump and at the roots of the strands would be a clear wax like covering on it usually less than a cm in length. It is wet to the touch and can be removed from the root if you pull it off. Sometimes a bump would be so sore, I end up pulling 15+ strands with those things on the root.. What's happening??
My scalp doesn't have sores and the area doesn't appear to be red, but my hair has thinned in the sore area. It isn't sore to touch it just constantly feels tender. I do suffer from allergies to dust, pollen, and cat dandruff. I often have sinus pressure around my temples and forehead. Could my sinus problems be causing my sore scalp?
It started on the right side of the back of my neck and slowly progressed to my scalp where it has stayed. I get shooting pains that start at the top of my scalp and shoot downward to my neck and ears. I have already seeen 5 dermatologists, but they will only look at the scalp. They will not touch it. I have been told that if they cannot see it, it does not exist. I am beside myself as to what to do next. A friend who is an RN said that it could be neurological.
My whole scalp is sore to the touch. It feels like I have just taken a ponytail out except it it all over my scalp instead of in a particular place. What could this be? Please help.
I have some pain on the crown of my head, it gets bad at times and it is sensitive to touch even when I lie down or anything touches it. I also have pain in the ear on the right side, it also affects my eyes, pressure behind them. I have some pulling feeling in my neck and right shoulder when I turn my head at times....I feel two to three small lumps or they are vessels that are swollen either way...its painful and annoying at the same time.
All are very sore to the touch. The main area of outbreak is a band across the back of my scalp from temple to temple, the sort of area where a hat band would contact your head. The spots are constantly appearing but I have periods of more severs outbreak. I have oily hair which I have to wash every day with baby shampoo. I dont get acne on any other part of my body. I know I probably shouldn't but I do squeeze them as it relieves some of the pain. Any ideas on condition and/or remedies ?
I had forgotten I had an ingrown-hair spot on my forehead but remembered it when he combed a few times over it and it hurt. I asked him to avoid combing the area due to my spot which by that time had become sore and red. I am not sure why but in a matter of seconds he put his finger on it for max 2 seconds and said 'it is just a spot'..When I put some tissue over it there was some watery fluid, kind of pinkish, from a mixture of blood and water..
and to KEEP MY FOLLOW-UP with my neurosurgeon. So I did but I called in to the office to see if I needed to come in sooner to let him know it is not better and I still continue to vomit. I soon rec'd a call from his nurse. She left me in tears...I do not feel well and I am in pain and sick. I was very upset as I got off the phone with her. She told me that there was nothing he can do for me. That I am released from him.
For the past month I've been having headaches on the left side of my head. Top, side and forehead area. If I touch my head my scalp is very sore. I feel like I have a bruise on my head. I've been to my dr he thinks it could be from my birth control pill. I've taken the same pill for 3+ years. I've had a cat scan and it was normal. The pain is not constant but pretty close. Sometimes it pulsates, sometimes it's dull. Does anyone have a clue what this might be?? I need some relief.
Have had MS for over 20 years, FM for the last 5 years. Scalp pain, and sores on the scalp, hurts to brush my hair. Have tried all the meds, for both MS and FM. Now they want me to be evaluated to see if they'll let me take home a T.E.N.S. unit to address the pain. Has anyone heard of this for Fibro pain? I used to do acupuncture, which helped tremendously - but ins will no longer cover it (Medicare) and I can't pay for it living only on disability now. Any suggestions???
