The glands seem to be a little swollen behind and under the ear. Although I do not have ear ache, I am getting occassional sharp pains in my ear and down my neck. Is there any thing I can do about this?
The "sternocleidomastoid muscles" are most likely those which are giving you radiating pain from ear down to neck/shoulder/arm(Google for picture of this muscle if unfamiliar with its location). There are two of these muscles in the superficial layers of the anterior (front) portion of the neck that make the shape of a ā€œVā€, and they are primarily helpful in rotation, flexing and extension of the head.
reason I'm bring this up under this catagory is I have a reacuring symptoms.
I found a knot yesterday under the left ear lobe. It moves when pushed on. Sometimes it sore and other times it's not. I don't anything about it until I get stressed or tired at the end of the day. Then it feels like it is swollen. I've had problems with the left side of my neck just swelling when I get nerveous. I can take a tylenol or just calm down and all is well. Should I be concerned?
For the past three months my son (19) has developed severe stiff neck, sore throat, and pain in lymph nodes (front side under jaw bones) The sympthoms come on suddenly, last a few days, then disappear for a month.. The first two cases were treated with antibiotics and anti-imflam but tests for bactical infection have been negitive. No fever. ENT Dr. does not see any significant inflamation and infectious desease specialist ruled out meningitidis (although no test performed).
About a week ago it felt like a lymphnode under my chin was swollen and kind of sore. That worried me. Yesterday I started having ear pain on that same side. Today the ear pain is worse and my ear feels full, it's hard to describe. It hurts from my lymph node and into my jaw and ear. I am the type of person that always jumps to the worst conclusion. Could it be that I just have an ear infection and that the swollen lymph node was trying to fight it and lost?
I was in an accident which caused a whiplash 28 yrs ago and I still have problems with pain (no ear problem) down my neck, back/under shoulder blade and sometimes down my arm. I also feel and hear neck crackling, so, I do neck exercises which seem to help. Synthroid is more stable than natural which comes from a pig and has way too much T-3 and too much for us humans, although some do well on it, if there is no heart issue(s) and you see doctor regularly to be monitored.
Can GERD cause a fullness feeling in my right ear as well as a swollen gland on the right side of my neck? or is the swollen gland causing the fullness felling in my right ear and on the right side of my neck? Thank you for any help.

Theoritically, it can indeed result in most of your symptoms like headaches, facial pain and burning, ear stuffiness, neck stiffness and pain. Spells of light headedness are unusual in TMJ. There are no board-certified TMJ specialists, and most patients typically end up visiting (like you) dentists, ENT doctors, internists, maxillofacial surgeons, and neurologists. I suggest you see an experienced internist, and have him examine you and review your reports. I hope that helps!
Then my neck (the fleshy part right under my right ear) got sore to the touch, then my scalp became sore right above my right ear, the part that is sore is about 1.5 inches in diameter. This started last night June 20th, today is the 21st and it's a little worse than it was yesterday. Please someone give me some guidance.
however this lasted for about 1 week with swelling under the ear which also went a few days after the ear was unblocked.
I woke up with a tender spot on the right side of my neck, just under my ear, under the jaw bone. I can feel a little something in there, not sure where to start for medical help. I had my wisdom teeth extracted again 2 years ago. (2nd time for me, I was one of those lucky ones who got extras) There were major complications with my surgery, no anti-biotics were given and i ended up with a really bad infection.
I tried popping my ears by holding my nose and blowing, and my left ear popped and suddenly my left ear felt fine but my right ear will still not pop and it is Thursday. It has been three days and I am now out of the antibiotic. Yesterday I was being very persistent on trying to cough up mucus and all of a sudden I coughed up something that had a little more substance than mucus.
Has anyone else experienced ear pain like being constantly under water went to ent today they don't have a clue give me a script for Cleocin for a sore throat this has been going on three months now extremly unconfortable.
On the left side of my neck just under my jaw bone (not back as far as ear) I have had some swelling without pain for about a week. Yeaterday I noticed it fely a little different & lastnight I noticed a mass under my chin on the left side with more pain & my jaw bone is now sore, also. There isn't a tooth in this area so i'm pretty sure it's not from teeth because it doesn't hurt around any of them. The mass is about 1 1/2 x 2 or so.
I recently found a small lump under my left ear. People are telling me different things like maybe its a swollen gland from an infection or an in grown hair. I feel fine. There are no symptoms of anything....just this lump. Its painless and about the size of a bean. Its not hard. i havent visited the doctor yet because im not sure if this is serious enough for a doctor but i am worried. i am 16 years old. What could it be?
The outbreaks began happening all this year, on my eyelid, ear, and neck. I've had one marking on my eye but stopped it from bursting with home remedies so it wouldn't spread to the cornea.(I'd rather not have a blister form around the eye because of the irreversible damage it can cause) I'm confirming my vision status wednesday but I believe it has deteriorated significantly and will have records for that this week.
Thank u for ur suggestion. I dont rembr if I posted this in my symptoms, but when I 1st went into the E.R.(same 1 w/ the medical college) I saw a resident ENT that was on staff @ that time & he was able to get me into the speciallty clinic ASAP & then I was able to see 1 of the speciallty ENT doctors(not just residents). When I was in the E.R. & the ENT res.
The last few days that area also feels like it is getting a hard lump under my skin, but this lump is not sore, warm like the boil behind my ear. My right side upper shoulder/neck is also sore. When I turn my head right it is sore. I'm not really sure what this all means. Do you think I should go to the doctor?
To feel the lump you have to push up under the chin near the neck, and then it pops out. I'm able to move the lump to my jawline. It's very, very mobile. I've had swollen lymph nodes before but never anything like this. It is not painful just tender and slightly uncomfortable. I also have a canker sore in my mouth on the same side as it, I don't know if this could be related but felt I should mention it anyways.
I was chewing gum earlier and under my right ear I felt a muscle spasm, after I spit my gum out my cheek under the ear was swollen and there was pressure for awhile under my ear, if anyone can pass on some adivce I would appreciate it.
I have some sort of swelling in the right side of my neck, behind my ear. I noticed it about a week ago - no idea how long it's been there. I know there are normal lymph nodes and such that can be felt there, but I am worried because the one on the right side of my neck is considerably bigger than the one on the left side. If I turn my head to the right and feel on the left side, the little bump there disappears.
I went back to bed and they still were sore when I woke up. I am not large (34 a/b) and they did feel less sore as the day went on but were sore again when I woke up the next day. They don't hurt as much now but kinda feel tender right along the underwire bra. It's not just one boob but both? Any ideas? Any suggestions?
approximately 2 months ago i came down with something similar to the flu it lasted for about 1 week, the cough and congestion continued for an additional 1 week or so after the flu-symptoms peaked and then faded as normal a sore throat started around this time accompanied with some neck pain. i didn't think much about it at the time. the neck pain was around the back of my jaw just under my left ear. this was due to confirmed swollen lymph nodes in my neck.
I have had a lingering sore throat and sore neck that has lasted about a week now. My neck is only sore on the right side (left side doesn't hurt at all), all the way from under my ear down to the base of my throat, but i can't really feel any swollen lymph nodes, though i am no expert and they might be swollen - it is just sore from all i can tell.
it can occur on just one side. Press under the corner of your jaw (by your ear) to feel if it is unusually tender. If so, use a massage vibrator from behind the ear, to down under the jaw, working your way to where the clavicle meets the base of the neck next to the esophagus. I tend to see this in people that have stress build up or too much caffeine in their diet. You should see swelling (which is probably just the muscle in a contracted state) go down in a few days or sooner.
