Common Questions and Answers about Solumedrol iv push side effects

solumedrol

Avatar f tn I have been DX with MS for 4 years now. I am not on any DMD therapy and choose NOT to be. I do not like taking any drugs that aren't absolutely necessary and the harmful side effects of the DMDs made my decision. HOWEVER, I am in a flare (or progression) for the past 2 to 3 months now with may one or two days I felt "nearly normal". I'm to the point of thinking I need relapse treatment. I have Type 2 diabetes as well so steroids can be very bad for that!
Avatar n tn coming with hat in hand is how in te world do ones manage the bizarre psychotic type side effects from the IV solumedrol? I just finished yet another five course today and frankly I had hugs melt down scared my caegiver.. and fnally made th eprimary car e doc understand thath 72 hours of mania, depression, wailing, and all that jazz was no acceptable. This is the first time I have dome them in a home setting versus in patient..could that be afcator? or am I just a little nutty...
Avatar m tn She told me that she had taken the steroid 3 different times for life or death situations and saved her life every time but left her with this crazy side effects. She told me every time she took it, the side effects left her within 32 days exactly but for me it didn't go away for months, and I sometimes still feel weird like the side effects but my aunt said this could just be stress or my mind playing tricks but either way I don't like it.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any information on side effects of IV solumedrol? I have taken it before, but that was several years ago. I just finished a 3 day course and today is day 5. I am feeling very stiff and am having much more difficulty walking. Water retention may be a factor, although I am on a low salt diet. I have travel plans next week and am hoping to feel better by then. If anyone has any recent experience with this please reply.
1842804 tn?1319756311 Many docs follow 3/5 day Solumedrol with a 12 day oral taper. That's what I did in August following 5 days of IVSM -1g. I think I started at 60mg and worked down to 10 over 12 days.
559187 tn?1330782856 I see a lot of people going on solu-medrol lately, some multiple courses within a short period of time. This really concerns me, especially in regards to the potential serious side effects - some which I have experienced personally. My neurologist is very conservative about prescribing solu-medrol He's explained to me that he doesn't give steroids for sensory symptoms like tingling or feeling numb unless it is a new symptom. He orders an MRI to see if there is any change.
97654 tn?1214348650 ve had a horrible experience with Solumedrol as well.....Back in March I had extreme leg and groin numbness and went on IV Solumedrol for 3 days....I had a nasty reaction to it, but it DID take away the numbness and vision problems almost immediately....Well, within 48 hours anyway..... In May the left side of my head and face went numb and because I was visiting the MS Clinic at that time, I declined the Solumedrol treatment.....That numbness didn't go away for 20 days.....
Avatar f tn I'm surprised you're as able to keep up with everyone as well as you do! Anyway, I'm not sure if I have said or not. :-) I can't remember much these days. I saw the MS specialist a few weeks ago and I had noticable neurological signs, she said pertaining to my cerebellum, pons, and c-spine. I won't bother repeating all of them here, but she did ask if I wanted to try a dose of iv steroids at that time.
Avatar n tn If you are just blah and a little scared because you have never felt this way then maybe it is enough to know that lots of us suffer yucky side effects from the Solumedrol and they do pass. Drink tons of water to help it get through your system faster. Spoil yourself with a soak in the tub or something you like but don't do often because you deserve it!
400099 tn?1282954864 I was on IV solumedrol about 5 weeks ago..but I've really noticed it since starting the shots this week. That and nervous eating...
Avatar m tn I just finished my first go at IV solu-medrol two weekend ago. I had similar, what the home nurse called "side effects" immediately beginning treatment similar to your sisters (joint pain, mainly). This, and many more "tolerable" side effects are normal. So I wouldn't be alarmed. I was found to have a few more severe, negative side effects throughout the dosing such as steroid induced psychosis and trouble breathing.
2288403 tn?1339564728 m going thru my second round of IV steroids. I am supposed to start Copaxone tomorrow and am nervous about the side effects and if I should start it while going thru Steroid treatments. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Avatar f tn t need tapering. Also, the common side effects of solumedrol include increased appetite, increased energy and irritability, insomnia and upset stomach. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
961762 tn?1265229711 his office just called and wants me to take 1 IV treatment of solumedrol - equivalent to 1 gram of the medication. they said if my symptoms improve, this could be more evidence of MS....if they do not improve, then maybe not MS. my concern is that my symptoms aren't very strong and i don't know if i would really notice a difference...or maybe i would? geez, can you tell i am a mess about almost everything! so, have you done this?
Avatar f tn I have vasculitis and was in the hospital on 150 mg IV Solumedrol for 1 week and have been on 80mg a day since Oct. 6th. I have the abd bloating, moon face and hump neck and shoulders. I know it is the side effects but was wondering if anyone has any ideas for relief of it. My back hurts as well I do use a heating pad on it and sometimes it helps but the neck, shoulders, and stomach are so uncomfortable. Does anyone do anything that helps with this?
341655 tn?1240368839 I have been on prednisone for 1 month now, 5 days of IV solumedrol and now i'm on a maintenance of 80mg of pred. I'm having severe side effects and don't know how to deal with them. *leg swelling *night sweats *severe mood swings *uncontrolled hunger *severe body pain any advice on how to cut down on some of the symptoms?
Avatar f tn It leaves you with some unpleasant side effects but SOOOO worth it. The side effects can be insomnia, so ask for Ambien PRN should you need it, heart burn, so pick up some OTC Zantac and a really yucky taste in your mouth while your getting the infusion but Lemon drops or other strong hard candy fixes that right up. For me, I went from barely walking and so weak to walking on my own after 3 days of infusion. I haven't had a flare since and it's been a year.
