148588 tn?1465778809 Most wind energy manufacturers are in Republican districts, and most wind energy production comes out of Republican districts. So for Republicans to be against wind energy, they're hurting their own constituents." This is another example of how non-representative our government has become. 'Representatives' vote the way the lobbyists tell them to. And yeah -- both sides.
163305 tn?1333668571 carbon pollution by 40 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050 by putting a tax on carbon pollution, repealing fossil fuel subsidies and making massive investments in energy efficiency and clean, sustainable energy such as wind and solar power. – Create a Clean-Energy Workforce of 10 million good-paying jobs by creating a 100% clean energy system.
Avatar f tn s original intent -- solar energy projects, wind energy projects and any other alternative type of energy is absolutely necessary, if the US is stop being dependent on foreign oil; however, I stand by what I said before: If they'd have used the $787 billion they spent on the bail out, we might already have new jobs being created; people might already have gone back to work; there might be less pollution; our country might be safer.
306867 tn?1299249709 There is only a limited supply of them so they will eventually not be available. And investment into renewable energy sources can create jobs. I do know that some power sources such as using wind or solar power are showing to be viable and should be further researched and some farms use windmills to generate some of their electrical power already and some buildings have solar panels to generate sources of clean energy.
148588 tn?1465778809 They see solar and wind energy as a long-term threat to their businesses. That might seem distant at the moment, when nearly 40 percent of the nation’s electricity is still generated by coal, and when less than 1 percent of power customers have solar arrays. (It is slightly higher in California and Hawaii.) But given new regulations on power-plant emissions of mercury and other pollutants, and the urgent need to reduce global warming emissions, the future clearly lies with renewable energy.
206807 tn?1331936184 The Headline is decieving. Bush and Obama has to share the Blame on this one. Does anyone follow up on these companies or do we just give them a half a Billion dollars and a Pat on the Back? WASHINGTON (AP) - A California solar-panel manufacturer once touted by President Barack Obama as a beneficiary of his administration's economic policies - as well as a half-billion-dollar federal loan - is laying off 1,100 workers and filing for bankruptcy. Solyndra LLC of Fremont, Calif.
535822 tn?1443976780 Wind farms along with solar power and other alternative energy sources, are supposed to produce the energy of tomorrow..Much evidence indicates that their countless whirring fan blades produce something else: blank spots that distort radar readings. Now government agencies that depend on radar---such as the National Defence dept and the weather service are scrambling and spending Millions to preserve their detection abilities... here we go yet again ....
1310633 tn?1430224091 (Reuters) - Energy producers braced for tighter regulation in President Barack Obama's second term, with coal companies expecting more emissions restrictions and drillers anticipating less access to federal land even as his platform promotes energy independence. Opponents already believe Obama has waged a "war on coal" through the administration's push for stricter regulation of greenhouse gas emissions by the Environmental Protection Agency.
148588 tn?1465778809 Los Angeles leads with 238 megawatts, and San Diego comes in second with 182 megawatts. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, the next leading states are: Arizona North Carolina Massachusetts New Jersey Hawaii Georgia Texas New York 5. The US solar market grew 41% last year Photovoltaic installations increased 41% over 2012 to reach 4,751 MW, according to GTM Research and the SEIA's Solar Market Insight Year in Review 2013.
148588 tn?1465778809 We are investing more into wind and solar. A few of the nation's oil and gas guys are BIG into wind farms. There are some down sides though, and if you're concerned about the environment there is a price to pay. There is tons of toxic waste created from the production of solar panels. Wind farms are killing birds and displacing wildlife and there are studies being conducted on the impact of the production of the windmills themselves.
163305 tn?1333668571 So we don't use oil for energy...what do we use? Unreliable wind power? Or unreliable and expensive solar power? What if a building is too close to the solar panels and starts on fire? What if we put up a lot of wind turbines and they fall over? You can come up with a downside to ever source of energy, but guess what oil is what we use and while we develop other sources to cut us off oil is suicide.
148588 tn?1465778809 I'm trying to buy solar panels and a wind turbine to power my car but Autozone told me to go pound sand and buy gas like everyone else.
148588 tn?1465778809 Trump has promised to end federal funding for renewable energy development, a decision that would make U.S. industries like solar and wind much less competitive compared to international producers. China, for instance, recently announced that it plans to invest $360 billion in clean energy — a move that would create 13 million jobs by 2020. China already has over 40 percent of all jobs in renewables, globally. The U.S., meanwhile, claims just under 10 percent of the global renewable job share.
148588 tn?1465778809 In that same article I'd mentioned, there was a bit on how much electricity produced by solar and wind that actually made the grid. I don't remember the numbers but it was kind of sad. Nowadays things are far better and a lot more juice is reaching the grid. Just goes to show you how technology can jump leaps and bounds in a decade or two. No doubt we have to do something and I am all ears on ideas.
Avatar m tn [3] The proton storms are produced in the solar wind, and hence present a hazard to astronauts during interplanetary travel. Most proton storms take two or more hours from the time of visual detection to reach Earth's orbit. A solar flare on January 20, 2005 released the highest concentration of protons ever directly measured,[4] taking only 15 minutes after observation to reach Earth, indicating a velocity of approximately one-half light speed. http://en.wikipedia.
148588 tn?1465778809 Boone Pickens is also investing a chunk of his money in alternative energy sources like solar and wind farms (more specifically). With that, petroleum products are very much a part of those philosophies as well.
Avatar m tn In a round about way, we certainly do need to be thinking and somehow investing in alternative energy. Solar power is a wonderful idea, and having come from Nevada.... I can tell you that there is an abundance of space to accommodate a large scale solar farm. (That is certainly a fact.) But the other fact along with this is, the over whelming majority of those jobs are not permanent. You're not ignorant...
163305 tn?1333668571 It has all been proven to be nothing but bunk. It is the workers who create jobs, by working and earning and then spending what they earn on the products that we have a demand for. It has not worked and will not work. I agree totally with this guy. Another thing I dont get is all these lower taxes in a time when we need the revenue simply doesnt get it with me. Are we broke or are we not? The bush tax cuts helped get all this mess rolling, and the refusal to end them is stupid imo.
148588 tn?1465778809 php#/0 Fresno County Quietly whirring away in a dusty field in the Central Valley is a shiny solar energy machine that may someday solve many of California's water problems. It's called the WaterFX solar thermal desalination plant, and it has been turning salty, contaminated irrigation runoff into ultra-pure liquid for nearly a year for the Panoche Water and Drainage District. It's the only solar-driven desalination plant of its kind in the country.
535822 tn?1443976780 til the costs drop down to a price most people can afford. I mean, we all know that electric cars, hybrid cars, solar and wind power are all reasonable efforts to try for alternative energy sources, but the start up costs make such things out of reach for the average person. And, I've actually heard some down sides to solar panels, in that they can actually burn the soil in nearby areas, so I'm not convinced that solar belongs everywhere.
306867 tn?1299249709 To take just one example, as the rest of the economy was shedding jobs, the solar energy industry added nearly 20,000 jobs last year. Rhone Resch, head of the Solar Energy Industries Association, estimates that the solar industry could add up to 45,000 jobs in 2010 if Congress renews various incentive programs that are expiring this year. • Rebuild the nation's infrastructure. A study by the Alliance for American Manufacturing concluded 2.
148588 tn?1465778809 Driven by the availability of cheaper and more efficient energy storage and inexpensive solar power, electric vehicles will begin to attain cost parity with cars driven by internal combustion engines. According to UBS, in a market with high road fuel prices, such as Germany, the total cost of ownership of an electric vehicle such as the Tesla S is already comparable with a gasoline-powered car, such as the Audi A7.
1302779 tn?1287405029 The simple answer to your question is that the sun emits photons, a form of electric energy that we see as light. Solar energy utilizes photons to create electricity. Because photons are able to penetrate most substances it wouldn't surprise me that photons interact with our nervous system via the optic nerve or nerves located in the scalp.
148588 tn?1465778809 "Over the past decade, American taxpayers have sunk hundreds of billions of dollars into funding the war in Iraq -- $816 billion since 2003, and counting. Meanwhile, domestic human, social, and infrastructure needs have suffered drastic budget cutbacks.
