148588 tn?1465778809 The study, which examined five locales nationwide including Westchester, found that as solar panels and solar panel and battery systems — which can cost in the low- to mid-five figures but are currently heavily subsidized by governments at the state and federal levels — become cheaper, the economic incentive to adopt will grow. Prices, the study found, will hold steady around 20 cents per kilowatt hour, with grid-only prices to jump to 40 cents by 2040.
148588 tn?1465778809 Even with the surge in new projects, energy from such renewable sources as wind, solar and water accounted for only about a tenth of total U.S. power generation last year. Still, the U.S. leads the world in wind energy with about 48,800 utility-scale turbines operating across the country, generating enough electricity to power about 20 million homes. By 2030, the Energy Department estimates wind will provide a fifth of the nation’s electricity.
148588 tn?1465778809 s the case, it provides an opportunity for crowdsourced solar projects (using services like Mosaic and Divvy) and community solar projects to drive the initiative of shared solar energy. 9.
148588 tn?1465778809 If passed by the House, this bill will abolish two of Texas’ few renewable energy programs – the renewable portfolio standard and building of competitive renewable energy zone transmission lines. Job growth, economic development, stable business climate – I thought those were conservative bread and butter. The wind industry should have earned the good graces of Texas lawmakers.
1310633 tn?1430224091 (Reuters) - Energy producers braced for tighter regulation in President Barack Obama's second term, with coal companies expecting more emissions restrictions and drillers anticipating less access to federal land even as his platform promotes energy independence. Opponents already believe Obama has waged a "war on coal" through the administration's push for stricter regulation of greenhouse gas emissions by the Environmental Protection Agency.
306867 tn?1299249709 There is only a limited supply of them so they will eventually not be available. And investment into renewable energy sources can create jobs. I do know that some power sources such as using wind or solar power are showing to be viable and should be further researched and some farms use windmills to generate some of their electrical power already and some buildings have solar panels to generate sources of clean energy.
148588 tn?1465778809 Trump has promised to end federal funding for renewable energy development, a decision that would make U.S. industries like solar and wind much less competitive compared to international producers. China, for instance, recently announced that it plans to invest $360 billion in clean energy — a move that would create 13 million jobs by 2020. China already has over 40 percent of all jobs in renewables, globally. The U.S., meanwhile, claims just under 10 percent of the global renewable job share.
Avatar f tn Sometimes you have to invest in the future in order to get yourself out of the situation you are in today. Renewable energy sources are an absolute must for the future and this probably should have been started quite some time ago.
Avatar f tn Many newly constructed buildings use renewable sources of energy such as solar power which are quite cost effective and there should be more research into that.
306455 tn?1288862071 on de-funding renewable and solar energy. This tells me he is on the side of oil companies, and not for finding a renewable energy. McCain voted "yes " on using social security money to fund tax reductions. (for the wealthiest 2%) McCain believes if big business is given huge tax breaks they will hire and employ more people. We have these tax incentives right now and have lost over 6 billion jobs.
148588 tn?1465778809 We are investing more into wind and solar. A few of the nation's oil and gas guys are BIG into wind farms. There are some down sides though, and if you're concerned about the environment there is a price to pay. There is tons of toxic waste created from the production of solar panels. Wind farms are killing birds and displacing wildlife and there are studies being conducted on the impact of the production of the windmills themselves.
1301089 tn?1290666571 While the Recovery Act has helped increase renewable energy, the fact that it is a one-time jolt makes it difficult to project that the growth will continue for the next couple of years. George Sterzinger, executive director of the Renewable Energy Policy Project, a Washington think tank that promotes renewable energy, said the Recovery Act's cash grant program for renewable energy projects "jump-started a lot of stuff. But there's nothing beyond that.
1301089 tn?1290666571 That projection assumes a huge payoff from stimulus spending on technology improvements in solar energy. Nelson, who has worked in renewable energy for 25 years, called the prediction "highly unlikely," unless there is a big increase in utility-scale solar power projects. Sterzinger said there was too much uncertainty in the world economy to make such a prediction.
Avatar f tn I've had a strange light freckle-like pattern on the back of my right shoulder for a few years. Its been hard to track any possible changes with the pattern of the freckles because of its location--it would obviously be hard to see. I'm concerned because some of the freckles are large and overlap. Where they overlap they are darker in color. None of the spots are raised or bulbous, but most of them are irregularly shaped.
148588 tn?1465778809 t really know a lot but I am aware that man made products like the solar panels and petroleum based products are a problem. I do not yet know the answer to that but I imagine it is the lesser of evils. Less toxic to the environment than say fracking and tar sands. Nevertheless it is a good point and hopefully it is a concern that is being addressed. About the "pork" if that is the case, I agree with you but it seems like Washington runs by a different game.
973741 tn?1342342773 I like the informality of this group and find it sad that it has all but died. So . . . if anyone happens to read this, what do YOU think we could do to bring life back to this group? It doesn't need to be a pro Republican or Pro Democrat group but a place where all things in the news could be discussed. Right? Wish it would take off a little . . . I like talking to myself and all but I do enough of that already . . .
148588 tn?1465778809 I don't know what to think of this situation. I read something not too long ago (it may have been here on CE) about alternative energy production. One of the things that was strongly noted was the amount of "toxic sludge" and "other toxic waste" that is left in the aftermath of solar panel production.
163305 tn?1333668571 It got NO traction and was stunted. They have the technology already. Anyone think they dont? Smoke and mirrors.
163305 tn?1333668571 And I meant that in the nicest possible way;-) It's supposed to be gorgeous here in Houston. Teko... you should come here and watch it with me. I'll even make up my spare room for you to stay in and I'll put you up for the night. We can drive down to Galveston and sit on the beach and watch it together, all the while, arguing politics and at each other's throats. Doesn't that sound like fun?!?
206807 tn?1331936184 The Headline is decieving. Bush and Obama has to share the Blame on this one. Does anyone follow up on these companies or do we just give them a half a Billion dollars and a Pat on the Back? WASHINGTON (AP) - A California solar-panel manufacturer once touted by President Barack Obama as a beneficiary of his administration's economic policies - as well as a half-billion-dollar federal loan - is laying off 1,100 workers and filing for bankruptcy. Solyndra LLC of Fremont, Calif.
Avatar n tn At this point, my doctor suspects that I might have a solar allergy and he and prescribed me Plaquenil (200mg BID). I've been taking it for 5 days now and so far there have been no results. I agree that a solar allergy seems possible, but I have a few questions about this: 1) How long should I take this medicine before I might expect to see some results? 2) If I don't respond to this Plaquenil, does that mean this is not a solar allergy?
179856 tn?1333547362 Timing is everything. And for the Solar Dynamics Observatory, launched into orbit this past February, the timing couldn't have been better. The SDO helps scientists study solar storms, and for a long couple of years prior to the launch, those storms were few and far between. Our nearby star was in a deep sleep, largely devoid of the sunspots, flares and prominences that indicate heightened magnetic activity.
