Common Questions and Answers about Social anxiety and propranolol treatment

inderal

Avatar f tn I have a presentation coming up next week, so I decided to go and seek medical help today. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with social anxiety. He said that the best treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy, but he prescribed me some medication to get me through this semester. He prescribed 10 mg propranolol (inderal) 3 times a day and an extra 10 mg inderal 1 hour before the presentation + 0.25 mg Xanax 1 hour before the presentation.
Avatar n tn The propranolol will help with the shakes and also anxiety, but if the anxiety is more pronounced and/or with panic attacks then my guess would be that the doctor would prescribe clonazepam with it. This is something to discuss with your doctor and it might mean a trip to the neurologist to confirm what sounds like essential tremor which, by the way, is more of an annoyance than a serious problem.
Avatar f tn Im a 21 year old male, when I was 16 I was found to have social anxiety, low blood pressure & also an irregular heart beat. i found myself unable to attend school assemblies etc my social anxiety was so bad, helped not by my other underlying conditions. Even tho I am asthmatic I was put on 40mg propranolol daily, it changed my life, I was able to queue up in public places etc without the fear of fainting. Anyway 5 years later, 3 weeks ago I experienced sleep paralysis for the 1st time.
Avatar n tn A med I take for anxiety is propranolol. It is a beta blocker used for high blood pressure, anxiety and akathisia.
Avatar f tn I was on propanolol and codamol two weeks ago for treatment of sore throat and hoarse voice. i had t o discontinue because i was feeling funny with headaches, pumping heart pain in lower chest and dizziness and faintness. So i discontinued and was ok for some time unless if i got hungry. Now i have pressure in the head and upper throat ans if i have got flu and tightness in the collarbone on my left side .
Avatar n tn I read Sertraline reacts with Propranolol. It makes Propranolol more toxic and can give me low BP and bradycardia. Recently my BP was a bit high (140/90) and pulse rate was 72. Shall I take the psychiatric medicines and how should I schedule the medications without suffering a lot?
Avatar m tn I have periods of this. I believe from researching it myself that it's a form of social anxiety. I have somehow recently managed to overcome it. I've gone from having the hot flushes in most social situations to now managing to be 'normal'. I thought it wasn't going to go away and I can honestly say it is a confidence thing and a vicious circle.... you're in a social situation, remember you're going to get all hot and there it comes - woosh, bright red face and chest.
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking zopiclone for sleep been taking them for ten days. Can I just stop taking these? I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety I'm also currently taking propranolol and fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn I discussed my occasional ED with my psych doc and we both feel it's anxiety related. He recommended propranolol 10mg just before sex. It's a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED. I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years.
Avatar f tn she also said my situation was no risk and its common for anxiety sufferers to be suspicious of everyday things etc. i also told her when i check my handphone on trains or public spaces i get this annoying feeling the guy next to me is watching what i read or type on my phone. she said its normal for anxiety sufferers to feel that they are being watched and get paranoia. anyone had similar assessment as me?
Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with social anxiety and generalized anxiety. I have trouble leaving my house and if I do I experience shaking, cold sweats, dizziness and nausea and vomiting. My psychiatrist recommended propanolol and Zoloft.
Avatar f tn And also people on propranolol what side affects would you say you get and what symptoms are in anxiety thanks
Avatar f tn propranolol does not help with the anxiety itself (the anxious thinking and negative thoughts) - it will only help with the physical symptoms of anxiety. To confirm this, you can google propranolol and find for yourself.
Avatar m tn I have ventricular beats that are getting more and more frequent and stronger, or myb im just too much scared or stressed that i imagine. Im falling in depression, and i have massive anxiety and panic attacks. Currently im on Propranolol 10mg 2x day. It ease my PVCs and my fast HR but it slows me down. Btw i have low BP, 110-70, sometimes 90-50...and when u put Propranolol atop of that... This is my EKG Holter monitor of 24h.
Avatar m tn Hey, like mammo adviced you, there's ways to get help for you social anxiety. I've suffered from social anxiety for years and I didn't want to do any presentations at school at all coz I would start to shake and sweat and my face would be all red. The a doctor gave me propranolol which is a safe med (doesn't have any bad side effects) that aliviates all the symptoms.
Avatar m tn So nardil is a great medication for social anxiety disorder, however I'm too afraid to take it in pill form because of the dietary restrictions it imposes. I was wondering if I can get a pharmacist to convert my pill prescription into an injectable dosage so that the medication bypasses my gut.
Avatar n tn This medication can be prescribed PRN or as needed for anxiety situations. For anxiety situations like performance anxiety or social anxiety, the dose is usually 10 to 80mg. So, you don't sound to be taking more than you should and if it is prescribed prn, there will be times that you don't take it which is expected. Does it help you?
Avatar f tn As far as evidence goes, the only problem this has been shown to help with are those with heart palpitations that are real and not imagined and those with social anxiety. Prozac isn't the best antidepressant for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating, so I'm guessing your main problem is anxiety. Only trying this drug will tell you if it will work, but it certainly was never approved for this purpose. It does help some. It doesn't appear to help most.
Avatar n tn Hi, i am a 19 year old girl and weigh approx 8 and a half stone, I am taking a dose of propranolol 10mg twice a day for anxiety, I don't do cocain that often but I was wondering if there is any possibility it can harm me or kill me in any way if the two were mixed?
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
494087 tn?1257793207 I was diagnosed with social anxiety and panic disorder a year ago. I take remeron and klonopin but the doctor says only to take them at night. I think I need some medication to get through the day but I am afraid to tell him I am having trouble getting through the day. I always have a butterfly feeling in my stomach and when I have to go in public I get very nervous and feel like everyone is looking at me. I guess my question is does anyone else feel this way and what should I do?
Avatar f tn I take it daily however it is along with other meds too. Usually treating migraines and/or anxiety is not a one-thing-fix-all. And even if something worked on you in the past may not work today and vise-versa. You can definitely ask about it, it won't hurt. But, my suggestion is to just let your doctor how bad it is and let him/her choose what to give you next. Remember, treatment is a marathon, not a sprint.
