Sneezing cat illness

Common Questions and Answers about Sneezing cat illness

sneeze

I live on a farm and have many barn cats. Last fall I noticed many of them sneezing, and they have leaky eyes and now that winter is here they are really coughing and sneezing with eyes and noses that are leaking. I feel so sorry for them and I don't know what they have? I have been giving them lots of warm meals and cleaning their eyes and noses. Thank you.
It may be worth mentioning that I have within the past few years had an ill-defined tooth/jaw pain issue related to a previous filling in my molar, which flares up occasionally and responds somewhat to amoxicillin (it is not an abscess, perhaps it's related to food getting trapped above my filling, or something else related to my filling). In past episodes, I had slight fever and swollen neck lymph nodes and severe jaw pain, from these flare ups.
yesterday I noticed my cat sneezing a lot.. he would sniffle a bunch.. then sneeze hard.. he sneezed periodically through the night.. today he is still sneezing.. and I noticed clear liquid tears in his left eye when he is not sneezing his breathing seems normal.. and he is eating and drinking ok.. I think he seems a little more lethargic than normal.. he is a year and a half.. he had all his shots last year and it is time for his booster but I haven't had a chance to take him in yet.
I have talked about Paradise some on here. She is getting ready to turn 4. And what a sweetie she is. Paradise has been doing a lot of sneezing over the months. Otherwise, she is maybe a tad overweight, eats like a little pig, goes to her litterbox well etc. Has a beautiful shiny coat, too. Very healthy except for these sneezing fits. Paradise was a gunshot victim almost 2 yrs. ago. Lost one eye and hearing in one ear.
Lola is an 11month old lab/hound mix. On May 10th she started sniffling and sneezing. Over a few days she developed hives on her snout, swollen glands under her arms, and congestion. After two weeks of cephalexin the hives went down, as well as her swollen glands. However, she became extremely lethargic, loss of appetite, weight loss, and hair loss/skin lesions. She was then started on a two week dose of doxy followed by two weeks of zenaquin.
You should take him to the Vet + get him checked out. This is what they do when they have an illness. My Cat jumped in the middle of the bed peed everywhere, while I was running to rescue that situation he ran into the next bedroom and did the same thing, he was really ill it turned out. No harm to run by the vet I think.
Have you tried give your cat a laxertives for your male cat? have you also tried exercising his legs for him while he is laying down?

Cats typically spread URI viruses through sneezing and nasal discharge so if there is still discharge, your cat could still spread the virus. Many cats harbor Herpes virus for years and can start shedding again when stressed. I would wait 3-4 weeks after the last vaccine booster is given. It is possible for the FIV+ cat to get symptoms of URI after vaccination. It depends on how well the immune system responds to the vaccine. Most likely, the vaccine will help limit symptoms though.
He is an inside only cat and the only cat we have. He got updated on his distemper and rabies about 5hrs before his surgery. He had no signes of any issues before we took him in to the vet. The Dr. did state that he did have to go pretty deep to remove a partial tooth so I don't know if this caused the other issues. What got me mad is the Dr. didn't even tell me about his eyelid being closed until I picked him up yesterday.
My boyfriend was recently sick and not my cat is sneezing all over the place like he was. Can he have given his cold to my cat? I am not too worried but the older one was just sick not too long ago so I don't want him getting sick again.
I have had bad cat allergies to cat hair- it's probably not a good idea to have cats if you have asthma or other lung diseases
Sudden onset or temporary clear discharge from the eyes can be caused by injury (although this is unlikely if the discharge is from both eyes), allergic reaction or an upper respiratory tract infection - just like when humans get watery eyes when suffering from a cold. If your cat has a respiratory infection he is likely to also develop a wet nose.
hi and welcome to our cat community. we aren't Vets here only other cat owners, its really pretty hard to give any help without a diagnosis. Was he vaccinated recently? this could cause some lethargic symptoms. Is it possible kitty is up and playing all night as some will do, than sleeps all day, perhaps this is his normal routine but since its the weekend and you are home now this is the first time you've observed his routine? Has the sneezing and irritated eye cleared?....
Regarding once the baby is born, watch out for sensitivity to cat dander in the baby. If the baby has a lot of sneezing with no other explanation, you might be dealing with an allergy.
I work at a dog day care/boarding & grooming service. The indoor play yards where the dogs go to the bathroom are mopped regularly with a very strong industrial bleach solution that burns all of our eyes terribly & makes all of the dogs go into sneezing fits. I have recently been feeling short of breath easily fatigued & have had several serious dizzy spells that made me unable to function. Could these symptoms be related to inhaling these bleach (& ammonia from the urine) fumes?
Just to let you know that is a good cure for cats with Upper Respitory Infection that have an eye infection...( if the cats sneezing and such..) but if you cat is not it wont do anything if its such as a scratch....
He has put a lot of weight back on but is still skinny during this time but he is starting to turn in to a really beautiful cat but very sickly with a constant running nose and always really congested and sneezing and a ear condition that will never go away. I put his cage away forcing him to find a new home on top of my bed. I found that if I slide in to bed he is ok with me and I can pull him up in to my arms while he sleeps (all he wants to do is sleep) and we started sleeping together.
Yesterday she was coughing and sneezing a lot and really hard too. When we took her to the vet yesterday he said she had a 104 degree fever. He also said that whatever she has started as a virus. Ive been trying to get her to eat but the most she got down was a few droppers full of milk and a few full of water, and yesterday, a few pieces of food and a little bit of water she ate by herself. I also have another cat so should i keep him away from my kitten?
She has been tested for everything from lyme's disease to leukemia, strep, hepatitis, mono, cat scan, ultrasound, bladder, kidney infection, chest x rays. At times her white blood cell count is high and sediment in her urine but further tests do not provide diagnosis of bladder or kidney infection. We are at our wits end. She is miserable and in so much pain so often, we just do not know where to turn any more. Has anyone dealt with an illness with similar symptoms? Any advice?
Hi Kathy, I'm afraid I don't have any idea what to do. I'm sure it's his tumor though, like you said. Due to the location, it might be tickling his nasal cavity. Some of it Might be from allergies if Fluffy's prone to them and while pills seem to be out of the question at this point, I wonder if some sort of injection would help him? A full minute is a long time to sneeze especially with the force you describe. Can you ask a quick question of your vet when you go get the records?
I’m a runner, usually run 25-30 miles per week. I do have allergies. Ragweed, pollen, cat dander, and even dust produce symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, etc. Two weeks later, I was still not feeling better. My burning throat, lungs, and airway persisted, and I was still feeling very run-down and achy. My primary care doc prescribed a Z pack that did not help. Lung x-ray returned clear, some standard blood work came back ok. I had not run in 2 weeks.

I've been sick since Novemeber, so it's been about 4 months now, but it didn't get bad until about Jan. My symptoms started out as a simple cold, coughing sneezing mild fever and a sore throat. At first I was given amoxocillin to treat what they assumed was strep (a throat swab was never done), after the meds I felt better but a week later felt worse then ever. I then was given more antibiotics because they then assumed it was a sinus infection and I needed strong antibiotics.
I hope you can help me figure out these mystery pains March 7th, I returned to my parents for the weekend to find my nephew was using my heater and used a multitude of blankets to keep warm that night. My cat often sleeps between my feet causing my legs to be bowed when I slept. When I woke up the next morning with sore knees, I believed this with the help of the blankets pressing down was the cause.
The lightheaded feeling usually is paired up with a tightness in my chest, making it seem like I'm having a hard time breathing. I've also been sneezing more than usual. I have been staying relaxed since this started and haven't committed myself to anything that would cause alot of anxiety. I recently had tests done at my doctor's, my vitals and blood all came back very good.
I have been very worried about it. The air in our house is pretty dry, and I have been sneezing like crazy (maybe allergies?). I have been trying to describe my syptoms to my family, and nobody else can relate. Is there any other possibilities for this strange breathing?
cat, dog and two types of dust mites. I learned that I am allergic to all but dogs. He also gave me a good scratch and said that I welt easy. That doctor was too busy to help me further. These days, I get hives covering about 80% of my body and they last about 5-10 days depending on the severity of my infection or surgery. The hives usually keep me up at night. I am desperate to understand this…. please help. Thanks in advance.
