Sneezing blood in cats

Common Questions and Answers about Sneezing blood in cats

sneeze

Avatar f tn This is very common in cats and typically not serious, but some cats who are herpes positive do tend to have periodic viral infections.
Avatar f tn I also live on a farm with a number of barn cats who earn their keep by keeping the rodent population in check. Also like you, I had a perfectly healthy "pride" of cats until a stray showed up in the early fall. Although he showed no signs, within a couple of months many of my cats were displaying the symptoms your cats have.
3170462 tn?1344717552 Three years ago, my husband and I adopted two cats. They're brothers, Alvin and Simon, and were a year old when we got them. Before they came to our home, they lived with a friend who runs a Second Chance operation from her home. She found them as kittens (mum was killed by a possum) and weaned them. Both cats were well treated. When we first took them, our friend mentioned that Alvin had started sneezing. We didn't think anything of it. Cats sneeze.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
Avatar f tn I work with our local humane shelter and we have two cats sneezing with a lot of yellow mucus. One has had it for several months and has gone through several antibiotics from several different vets and steroids as well. Nothing is working. Beautiful, pleasant cats but unable to adopt them out due to this problem.
2013578 tn?1341812012 ) Its an amino acid that strengthens the immune system so they can fight off this on their own, its usually viral in cats... but if in doubt at all please speak to a Vet first.....could also be that she has a small particle irritating her nasal passage (?) for cats with an acute attack we use 500mg for a week, than down to 250mg following for a few weeks. and for cats its important to use the brand with NO additives...just pure lysine. I will give you a link to where I order mine from...
7667275 tn?1393196119 The vet also gave me some drops for his eyes in case he needed them and he developed sneezing although the other cats in the house were sneezing and seemed to have colds and the kitten was put on antibiotics and I noticed that he is still sneezing. He is 6 months old now and I am trying to prevent him from developing FIP. He has been fed life abundance food and takes NuVet Plus as recommended by the breeder.
Avatar m tn My daughter has had a cold for two days and after that she started getting blood in her snot while sneezing. Now, she is even getting blood in snot when she is spitting the snot from her nose. Is this normal? She recently turned 12 years old. I am worried. Please answer if you have experienced the same thing.
Avatar f tn I am 9 week pregnant and I am also allergic to my indoor cats. I am also scare about getting toxo from my cats.
1658070 tn?1302320704 When we first got him, he had a respiratory infection, which is pretty common in shelter cats. We took him to the vet and they said it would probably come back, so when he started having sneezing fits for 5 or 10 minutes, I figured it was probably just to do with that. However, I've started to notice that his urine smells very strong lately. He is very good at using the litter box and his urine has never smelled before.
Avatar f tn He has been sneezing consistently for the past week. There as I just noticed today twice that there is blood in his feces and that his feces is also very soft. I haven't seen him once have hard feces and I don't know if that's not healthy. I have another worry he hates to eat his soft foods and we've been trying all different kinds but he'll eat anything he sees u eat. He also drinks 2% milk but I have stopped giving him that bc it scared me.
Avatar f tn thanks so much, now everything is so much clearer. Antibiotics are for cats bought in a vet pharmacy (anterobe). He doesn't cough but sneezes. At the beginning he eyes had yellow stuff but now this is solved. Lucifer (the cat's name) now is a bit happier and starts also being the same old buddy. I will though ask the vet on monday about the immune system. Has though always gone through all vaccinations. bye. I'll soon post a picture of him.
Avatar f tn Just checking in to see if there is any news? I'll also weigh in with my 2 cents that nosebleeds aren't common in cats in my experience with them. Good luck with her!
1232362 tn?1333135406 At the risk of inflaming cat lovers, certain organisms that cause pneumonia in cats can cause leukemia in humans. It is not a good idea to be around cats with respiratory diseases.
Avatar m tn We took her home in a crate (recently used by my other cat and my dog sometimes slept in there) and when we were in the car she started sneezing and one of her eyes was a little bit watery. Now that shes home she continues to sneeze often and her eye is still watery. Could something in my house be irritating her? Could she be allergic to something? Or did i adopt a sick kitten? What should i do? Thank You.
Avatar f tn My cats have been sneezing frequently as well, but only since the season changed and I thought it might be due to dryer air in the house. I keep my humidifier running full blast in my bedroom and noticed all 3 of them sleep w/me since I started doing this. Spirit normally sleeps w/ m.
Avatar n tn Is he still not eating? Is he picking at his food or just not eating at ALL? It's important to call the vet as soon as you notice the kitty isn't eating, please use me as an example. My cat stopped eating but I figured she was eating when no one else was around since she has an aggressive food loving sister and I didn't notice something was wrong until I pet her and realized she was getting really boney.
591069 tn?1219287990 I have a young altered male cat thats just 2 yrs old. Since Nov. 2007 he has has 2 bouts with blood in urine. He's ex-tremely easy going, full of himself! He's in a multi-cat household(litter mates) that all get along together and play with each other, sleep together ect. I home so I see all inter-action between everyone, so I do not believe it'stress related. I know my cat very well and know when he's "off" and not himself.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr. old cat has been sneezing for over 2 yrs. He also has constant left eye & left nose drainage...sometimes bloody. Vet has no answers here so gave him an antibiotic shot. The shot was ineffective. His appetite is fine.He does'nt purr out loud so I've wondered if it's an obstruction.
Avatar f tn The vets don’t recommend to give cats, humans antibiotics, as some may not be suitable for them, however, they are some human antibiotics that can be used in cats, like Amoxicillin, but you need the right doses or else it can lead to overdose.
Avatar m tn My cat has been on the hills c/d prescription diet for three years that is the only food he eats he has blood in his urine and i dont know why, i cannot afford to take him to the vet this time. can anyone tell me what is wrong with him and what i should do?
Avatar n tn The dosing schedule for auto-immune disease in cats is very safe. It begins with a high dose at first, the dose is halved every 2 or 3 days until the lowest effective dose is achieved.
Avatar f tn Now my cat is sneezing less...but still sneezing now and again so I am not sure what to think. She seems normal otherwise (hard to tell if she is having extra cat naps since she is a cat who snoozes). Maybe it was the cleaning products? If it is an infection, what would be the chances only she would have it and not my other cat? They both hang out together and both are indoor cats.....
1632896 tn?1299942340 I doubt that the sneezing has anything to do with being happy. Sneezing is cats is for the same reasons as it is in humans. Irritation, blockage, allergic reaction, or sinus infection. If there are no other symptoms (eye or nose draining, wheezing, difficulty breathing), it is most likely due to some temporary irritation or blockage such as inhaling a bit of food or litter dust, or even from playing with a feathery or furry toy.
Avatar n tn This is NOT normal at all, I would probably be freaking out!! You didn't say how much. If it was a lot of blood, I'd be going to the emergency vet. If it was a small amount, that's not As urgent. Whether it is small, or a large amount of blood the cat needs to go to the vet. I've had cats my entire life-35 yrs, and I have never ever seen that before. I seriously would freak if I saw my cat w/ a nosebleed.
Avatar n tn ve also since become allergic to jasmine, lilies, lilacs, juniper bushes, ceder, cats, dust, mold, hay, and fresh grass. Only a handful of those allergies are on the usual allergy tests. I actually discovered the causes through trial and error instead of an allergist. (Doesn't take a genius to figure out what a migraine, sneezing attack, hives, eczema, and asthma attack whenever I'm around lavender or lavender products means.
Avatar n tn Many upper respiratory infections in cats are viral, and are usually self limiting, however if they continue affecting a cat long enough other invaders, such as opportunistic bacterial will compound the original infection. That is when antibiotics are needed. Since this has been going on in your cat for a week it is probably time to take him to the vet.
