Sneezing after sinus surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Sneezing after sinus surgery

sneeze

I had a sinus surgery about 3 weeks ago. It included: frontal sinus, antrum, intranasal op, Turbinates, submucus resection. In plain Eng. I was told I had a cyst which had to be removed and my ENT told me he opened my sinuses as well. Almost 3 weeks after the surgery I fell better, I don't have the sneezing attacks anymore, but my nose is still congested most of the day. Sometimes on side clears but the other stays congested. Mornings are usually better.

but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy. along with a steroid Kenalog IM injection - still did not help. But maybe your's could be the Prempro. Ask your doctor, make sure it's your ENT doctor.
It is advised to avoid all strenuous activity, including sex, for one week after surgery. This is to prevent bleeding. Also sneezing and blowing the nose is to be avoided as this can increase the risk of bleeding. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Smell in nose after sinus surgery is common, it is part of healing, make sure you keep rinsing. I use a neilmed bottle and flush three times daily. It has been 9 days after the surgery and it (the smell) started the 5th day. It went away for a bit but now it is back with a vengange. My doctor told me to keep rinsing, keep carefully blowing my nose, finish the anti biotics.
`12th, since I’m going to be bed ridden for a few days you’d think that I would be out doing something, but nope, I’m on the computer watching videos and reading blogs on sinus surgery and septoplasty, geesh. This is making everything worse I can tell, I’m scaring myself out of doing it. I had to call the surgical booking to see what time my surgery is, and it is 10:00 a.m. tomorrow yikes. 8:00 p.m.
Sneezing is very common with wd. You will sneeze for awhile. It starts to slow up after a month or so............
I have had allergies and asthma all my life. When I have a sneezing/hay fever reaction, it's accompanied by the usual itching of palate and eyes, and my medications take care of it. But once or twice a month, I sneeze uncontrollably, hundreds of times, all day long, and nothing, not Allegra-D, not Claritin, not Benadryl, will stop it. And the weird thing is, this sneezing is NOT accompanied by the usual itching. When I have a "sneezing day," I am nonfunctional.

Note: Befor this(Sinus problem)alsy.two months after it has completely cured.
I am having sinus surgery tomorrow. After I recover, I will take you suggestion to see an allergist. Hope to let you know good news in a month or two!
She put me on Augmentin for 8 days for a sinus infection and said that she saw fluid behind my left eardrum. After the 8th day of pain, the augmentin did NOTHING and I went to the ER. The ER doctor was concerned about my family history and me being a smoker, and recommended a CAT scan and a spinal tap! I had both. I also insisted he do a full sinus scan. The CAT and Tap came back normal. My sinuses were a "little cloudy" on the left side.
The most common surgery done today is functional endoscopic sinus surgery, in which the natural openings from the sinuses are enlarged to allow drainage. This type of surgery is less invasive than conventional sinus surgery, and serious complications are rare. How can I prevent sinusitis?
I never had one in my life, so I didn't know that was what was going on, I just thought it was 'fall-out' from the surgery, as I had been told it could take 6 months to a year to feel fully better (my surgery had been to repair a deviated septum, but up until the summer after the surgery, I had never had a sinus infection in my life).
It's a normal occurrence after surgery, the fluid could be draining from the inflammatory changes ager surgery. But if there is accompanying fever or discoloration of the drainage or pain or redness, please consult your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Im the same way, i quit in september, and been sick ever since, sinus problems, and never had a sinus problem in my whole life, til i quit smoking, after 10 years, cold turkey as well. But had tubes in my ears when i was little til the age of 14, i started smoking at the age of 12, i quit when i was 22, and am now 23.. sometimes i wish i didnt quit smoking..
Post-op instructions include avoidance of straw and sneezing, if managed properly, most oroantral communications heal up uneventfully. If the condition persists after 6 weeks, you may need to see an oral surgeon to surgically repair the defect. In the mean time, if you don't receive proper management, you may go back to your dentist or oral surgeon to have a follow up exam.
Not only are my symptoms getting worse, but new ones seem to be presenting themselves each month that goes by. My ENT recommends sinus surgery but can't do it until my respiratory issues clear up ... which don't seem to be happening. I'm going on 3 weeks now. Help!
2008 i strated getting headcahes when sneezing, coughing, bending over. for about 4 months they treated it for sinus problems,(which i did have surgery on about 15 years ago) but after antibodys and steroids did not work i went ear nose throat specialist and agin she tried a really strong antibody and streoits and ther was no luck ther eigher So she had a cat scan done and it was negative so she send me to a nerologists, he did a mri and it came back negative.
My daughter has always had sinus infections and now 5 months after CM surgery she is having the allergy symptoms full throttle...stuffy head, sneezing, sore throat and a headache! Yuck! So she's on Zyrtec along with Diamox and Topamax. Here's hoping everyone feels better soon!
so yesterday we agreed to do sinus surgery to clear it all out. he thinks that could be sinusitus with nasal polyps in right max sinus and the one in my nostril as well...has anyone ever had something like this? internet gives so much negative and conflicting info and quite honestly its scary as well.
When you feel that your sinuses have been cleared, continue the procedure twice a day for at least 2 days afterward, to prevent any residual infection from growing back and causing sinus problems again. After you have flushed out your sinuses, some saline solution may remain inside your head. While this is harmless to you, if you bend your head down during the day, a few drops of saline may leak out into the nose, and cause you some unpleasant business.
Hi, Then hopefully you should get symptomatic relief and feel better after the surgery. But you still migt need to continue the medications for some time. You should still continue with the steam inhalation, saline nasal drops and antihistamine medications. Talk to your surgeon about the procedure and clear out any doubts that you might have. Let us know if you have any other doubts and post us about how you are doing. Regards.
Wow I finaly found others that are having problems with cysts. Listen to my story. I have had sinus surgery 3 times now for rt side sinus cysts. There were multiple cysts covering my entire cavity. Excrutiating facial pain, headaches, nausea, ear pain only on R side of head. They have returned every time I had surgery. Now I know I have it again. I am desperate and at my wits end. I have spent thousands and my insurance won't cover it anymore!!
Keep the vibration belt with magnets on your cheeks for five minutes every day ,which is available in the market. Do breathing for 10 minutes /thrice a day. I am not a doctor. i am also a sinus patient, after trying out all the medicines finally i could get relief after following the above things. Try out after consulting your doctor and do let me know how it feels.
I know that sounds weird, but for the first time I thought I was going to rid myself of this curse. I decided to have sinus surgery, and unfortunately the worst symptom persisted. I subsequently went to an allergist, neurologist, neurosurgeon, opthamologist, vascular specialist and my uncle who knows everything... All tests negative. I went back to my ENT surgeon, who at this point was as determined as I was to get rid of this torment.
i read somewhere that this is what happens when the turbinates no longer constrict on their own because of the prolonged nasal spray use and that the only option is sinus turbinate reduction surgery. i don't think i have really bad allergies and i dont think i get sinus infections, but i do have sinus congestion. i always have clear nasal discharge, it's never yellow or green like with sinus infections.
de Moreno said, you should demand a CT scan. However, surgery is no longer the only option for removing a sinus infection from the upper sinuses. Many people have had great luck with a Flip Turn Sinus Flush, as you can see by the comments http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/2322/The-Sinus-Flush Since you have dizziness, I'd recommend the kneeling position over the side of a tub.
Hi, I went for a root canal about two and a half weeks ago, I had a previous issue with this dentist who made a mistake on a root canal I had before. I had no intention of going back to him, but the oher dentist in the office wasn't available and the tooth was in desperate need of fixing. So, a little over two weeks ago, I went in for my root canal, everything was going well until close to the end. He was drilling and "accidentally" drilled into my sinus cavity...
She told me most patients of hers who have had sinus surgery end up worse off. I never thought I would be normal. After my 3rd sinus operation - back in 1995 - I got so depressed because all I could see ahead was more sickness, more surgery and no normal sinus health. But daily nosewashing helped me improve and normalize my sinus health. I can not say enough good things about it. I have also avoided colds by doing this as I already told you.
