Sneezing after drinking alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Sneezing after drinking alcohol

I'm 21, I've never been a big drinker, and after not drinking for a few months I started drinking beer again. I noticed that after about an hour of drinking, I start sneezing and my sinuses get all congested. It's enough, sometimes, to cease drinking all together, but other times, it's milder, and I can suffer through it, so to speak. Lately though, I start my sneezing fits about 20 minutes after drinking, and it seems to be getting worse. This does not happen with any other alcohol, but beer.
I have definitely been considering the red wine thing, cos I seem to start sneezing as soon as I start drinking red wine, (my mum starts sneezing uncontrollably when she drinks white wine, or eats mints, but only for a little while. I too have the whole day sneezing, wouldn't even like to inform you how many antihistamines I took yesterday! And I wrack my brains as to what it could be. Ok I know if I empty the vacuum, Im going to sneeze for an hour, but I can plan my life round that.
I have the same problem with phlegm after eating/drinking, and I don't get any burning feeling associated with acid reflux. Sometimes excessive phlegm occurs after consuming fatty or creamy food; however it will absolutely happen when greasy food is combined with a cold drink in a social setting - the slightest anxiety about getting that horrid-sounding phlegm cough seems to constrict the chest and make it even more certain to happen.
There have been a few occasions where, in addition to the hives, I have experienced symptoms like wheezing or sneezing after having consumed a large amount of alcohol the night before, but it is the hives that occur the most consistently and cause me the most trouble. I have experimented with sticking to different kinds of beers or liquors to see if it was isolated to a specific type of alcohol, but I have had the same results regardless.
Well, I've been a avid beer drinker for quite some time. I can relate to the Asian Alcohol issue discussed, after living in Japan for 5 years! They do have good beer, and it is much stronger than US beer! For several years, I've equated, or rationalized my increasing tolerance to alcohol with a rigoruous exercise program-rowing, exercise bike, lifting weights (which doesn't prevent me from gaining weight though).
Had I known it was so addictive I would never have started drinking in the first place. Now I am fighting alcohol dependancy and it really sucks!
Well, I just got back from my doctor's and he said all of my blood work is normal. He said drinking alcohol is causing gastritis and if I continue, it will only get worse. This is terrible for my social life but great news for my fickely gastro thingy magingies. :) Besides, nothing good ever comes from a night out drinking, and now my friends have a designated driver!
I too suffer from migraines after drinking any kind of alcohol, in varying quantities. Mine are more like Russian roulette. I can get a migraine after one, sometimes after two, sometimes, no headache after 3 or more. But the pain is escruciating and long lasting. Only my expensive prescription migraine medicine cures mine. My pain is always in the same spot, which is over to the right of my right eye above the forehead. I never had this occur until about a year and a half ago.
Hi Gemma07, Like yourself I tend to suffer from cold like symptoms after drinking alcohol, depending on how much. I used to call it my Wednesday cold as invariably by mid week I would feel full of man cold (serious form of regular cold:). I spoke to a bio-chemist and she reckons that its an antibody reaction wherby the antibodies see alcohol as an intruder or foreign body and attach themselves to in my case the lungs to fight off infection.
of 12x30mg, I was prescribed these by my GP after a martial art injury for years, no questions asked, no alternatives sourced, In no time I was hooked to these meds and a typical 2 week prescription was only lasting me 2 days!
I am also glad I found this post, since I was beginning to feel like I was the only one who had such a complaint, and it was just plain weird. After several years of putting up with these "flu-like" symptoms after aerobic exercise, I think I have finally found out what's going on. While scanning the web searching for answers, I came across a site that deals with digestive ailments, and their possible influences on your body.

Somtimes I would even have bleeding that would last a few day's. I would also have problems the day after drinking alcohol ie bad sinus headeache and no not a hangover I can tell the difference :) Apart from these two situations I would never have problems. Anyway Went to my ENT and got checked.
I quit 3 months ago after smoking a pack a day for 13 years. I developed sinus problems about 4-6 weeks after quitting - really runny nose and sneezing. I then experienced a nose bleed and a lot of itchy/dry congestion. After two nose bleeds and some yellow mucus, I went to the doctor and was told that it was just allergies and that I needed Flonase. I've never had allergy problems, so I believe now after reading this thread that it is directly related to quitting.
It started out by happening occasionally but now it occurs after every shower and has started happening after getting out of the swimming pool. The itching is getting more intense and I'm afraid that it will continue to just get worse and last longer. Water is the only thing so far that triggers this. This is not a topical or dry skin itch, it's like my nerve endings are going wild inside my legs. Nothing seems to relieve the itch, it just has to "run it's course".

I research HPT and they say that First Response Eary results is the most accurate? Have anyone had a good experience?
Well tomorrows the big day. After tapering from sub since June I'm going for it. Praying hard the wds don't kick my *** too bad but I guess that remains to be seen. I'm scared though. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and I HAVE to get through it. I've jumped in the past but from high doses of oxy. I know this should not be as bad but I hate wds of any kind. Still, I have to get through this. I'll update tommorow and I'm praying I have a short, non-torture kind of detox.
I have no desire to use any pills at the moment, and I don't expect that to change. I was abusing hydros after 2 shoulder surgeries. Counseling and support from friends and family (who I was deathly afraid to talk to) has been amazing. My best friends wife came over and took my hydros from me, and basically helped save my life. I am lucky to have them.
So what's the deal if you drink alcohol right after conception? I've heard it won't effect the baby until after implantation or even after that? Thoughts?
By the way I did go take a movie right after I posted. I went to 27 Dresses. It was really good and I didn't notice as many of the little "DEMONS" while I was there. I have decided to try and stay calm because I do know that adreline plays a big factor in my problems. My work life and my home life is not the best in the world. I need a vacation. I need the Beach. Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The best place on the face of the Earth.
just had 1vf after 4 years of trying to get pg and a loss of one ovary and tube. It has been 5 days since the transfer and I just started cramping. But after BM i feel better. Hi, Amy I am getting ready to start a third ivf transfer, this time I am doing a FET maybe you can answer some of my questions. Did you do birth control and lupron? Did you bleed while on Lupron? I bleed for two weeks I started to bleed (lightly) the day before I started my Lupron shots. Today I went to the RE for an ultrasound and blood work. They said everything was fine and he lowered my lupron from 10 to 5. I now am taking estrace (pill) and I go back on Wed. Is this familiar to you?
I got a problem after drinking two cans of Holsten (Germany). Usually I used to get red eyes, sneezing, runny nose and swollen eyes most of the times after drinking beer, Though Sleeman is my favourite (may be due to classical bottle style and color), but I like to try new beers from different countries (especially cans).
now am scared because I see that a lot of women have not been able to conceive after the mirena IUD removal... pls help!!! I have had it for 18 months and after all the crazy stories, I am thinking of having it removed :(.
I have 8 days to my 1st beta test after my ET on Aug 12. Out of 11 mature eggs only 4 fert after icsi and only 1 viable embryo. I too had OHSS after egg retrieval and am really hoping that this works. So far no signs of period coming so keeping fingers crossed. Does anyone know how many days after ET a period will come if it didn't work?
I started feeling sick every morning (gagging but not vomiting) starting at about 10 days after the procedure. I was confirmed pregnant on day 14 after the procedure by blood test. I had the symptoms before I was confirmed positive and I also thought they were in my head, but there could be more to it. I had a failed IUI a few months before and I did not have any symptoms at all. Good luck!
I never have more than one, and sometimes don't even finish the one I order. Every so often, I notice that after a few sips of beer, my face gets very red and I experience a burning sensation on one side of my face. When I stop drinking the beer, the redness and burning goes away within 10 minutes. The weird thing is that it doesn't happen every time I drink a beer, and there is no consistency with the type or brand of beer that I drink.
