Avatar n tn I agree with Special Mom, the doctor, (and I agree) will tell you to stop smoking, there are just too many negative side effects to it, plus, you will save some money by stopping.

Avatar m tn The voice box (larynx) needs to be rested and lubricated. Misuse of the voice, either by shouting and exposure to irritants (in your case, smoking) can damage the vocal chords. Acid reflux can also cause damage to the vocal chords. You may have nodules on the chords, or have mucus coating them and that will cause crackling, hoarseness, etc.
Avatar f tn Flexeril or cyclobenzaprine or baclofen are not associated with hoarseness of voice. More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference.
272759 tn?1270485594 I think they worry about the effects of smoking on mothers who regularly smoke or are around it for a big part of theyr pregnancy. BTW, If they don't know your pregnant.. or what not, just make the excuse that the smoke is triggering your allergies! (wink) then make your exit.
1294748 tn?1350611401 Since you smoke weed from time to time, and it makes your voice sound a little raspy as you do it, you could stop smoking altogether for a few days and see if your everyday voice clears up.
709686 tn?1277432159 Hello , i was just put on omeprazole (prilosec) 20mg about 10 days ago , i havent really experienced anything , except my voice changing which its already soft as it is . ive been clearing my throat alot also but that may be do to from smoking so many yrs , but its been 2 1/2 months now since i quit . But other than that i havent really seen anything dif , while taking it ! i wish ya luck and if its a allergic reaction maybe u should go to your doc and tell him !
203342 tn?1328737207 Hmm...very hard to say What's going on. I kind of doubt it's smoking related...probably more due to the GERD. All that acid rising up like you've been describing lately can make your esophagus raw which may make your throat raspy. The acid causes erosion of the lining. Have you stopped drinking ALL coffee? :) I am thinking though, that the endoscopy you're scheduled for is going to give you all your answers.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm going on 3 weeks of barely being able to speak, and when I do it's only is a very soft hoarse voice. There are no other symptoms, I'm otherwise perfectly healthy otherwise as far as I know. I'm just growing very anxious as it does not seem to be improving at all. General background: I'm a visual artist based in NYC, originally from Florida. No background of illnesses. I smoke a couple times a week and drink a few times a week. Rarely drinking to excess.
Avatar m tn s never really been an issue. Recently I develoloped serious problems with my voice and throat and I went to a specialist where I had a gastroscopy done as he felt it that my reflux could possibly be causing the problem. I was put on Protium 40 initially but my GP put me on Protium 20 after about three months(mistake on her part possibly) which has controlled it but I still get reflux from time to time. I have been on protium for 6 months approx but my vocal issues still exist.
Avatar f tn What are the side effects of smoking when pregnant? Did any of u girls smoke when u were pregnant? I'm 16 weeks and trying to quit but it a lot harder than I thought .
Avatar n tn If mine had not returned, my ENT was going to inject my vocal cord with botox to push it over so it could touch the working one, which is necessary, for the voice to come out.Hopefully your voice will return soon. Good luck.
Avatar n tn But i stopped for almost a year with no problems. never really a big user. but recently i smoked alot over the past week. and i stopped smoking and drinking all together a day or two later because i was feeling really wierd. i get butterflyes in my stomach, sometimes randomly feel dizzy, disconnected from people and things.. i feel the best when i wake up in the morning and then it kinda starts through out the day.
Avatar m tn I don't know what i am going through i don't know what this is. well i am 20 year old male i had depression before due to smoking marijuana once only, that lead to anxiety i've had anxiety attack/panic attack about 5 weeks ago i was on paxil it didnt go well for me. I've been prescribed for prozac day time & elavil at night.
Avatar m tn Everything seems brighter and larger now and I also have that inner voice in my head narrating my everyday life. I went to a Psychiatrist as well but he said It seemed like I had mild depression and anxiety and maybe the drugs just threw overboard what was already going to happen but other than that I was normal. I don't take medication because I read the side effects and they seem just as bad or worse than the actual illness. Do the symptoms relate to anxiety or something else.
Avatar f tn I have a close friend who has been addicted to marijuana for a long time, she also smoked during her pregnancy and no they did not test her for it when she gave birth. I don't know much on the effects of marijuana use during pregnancy but I strongly suggest that you look into that for the benefit of the baby. I know that she breastfed for quite a while, continuing to pass the drug onto her child. Our sons are the same age and have been friends since infancy.
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
Avatar f tn The liver filters everything that goes into your body. The chemicals from smoking may not get a first pass through the liver as if you'd eaten them but smoking is not liver friendly.
Avatar f tn If you stop smoking, that's the best thing you can do. You are young, you've only smoked a couple of cigarettes and you can reverse the effects if you quit. Good for you for being concerned about it! Be tough and stop smoking now!
Avatar f tn Look up some articles if you want to know the effects of smoking. You don't want to put anything into your body tat isn't good for either of you while you are pregnant. I don't know of any doctors who would encouraged you to continue smoking unless you are stressing out more from not smoking.
Avatar f tn hi i've recently been to the docs due to hoarse and loss of voice. at first doc told me to stay completely silent for 2 weeks (hard work) with no improvement, now he is sending me for a camera to check the area out. Any ideas on what they will be lookin for. I'm quite nervous and don't know what to expect, I woulld be grateful for any advice.
Avatar f tn People have many different opinions but there are no studys that find anything wrong with it unless you are smoking blunts which have tobacco in it or smoking a large amount daily i have also have drs say it would be ok to take a hit if it helps you eat and stops the nausea
Avatar f tn When I am able to reproduce the sound, my voice will be down as If i were heavily smoking, and coming back to normal after a few seconds and after a few coughs to clear the throat. I always have a feeling like I was about to cough mucus, which is not there. I had several (3) ent visits, without endoscopy, a bronchoscopy and a ct of lungs, all negative. I suffer from heartburn, which I control with medicines such as omeprazolum.
Avatar n tn When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back. I say that I am still recovering because although my speaking voice is normal, I am a vocalist and I still have a problems with transitional notes. That continues to improve, so I say I am still recovering. I expect full recovery with treatment and life style changes. I would suggest that you be patient with treatment.
1536705 tn?1324329047 As far as I know there have not been any actual effects found for smoking weed. The literature says the only known effects are the same of that found for smoking cigarettes. Although it just cant be good for mum or baby. She needs to ensure that she is taking in the correct vitamins etc and I dont know how smoking weed effects these thing in your body. Have a chat with her.
