Common Questions and Answers about Smoking effects tongue

smoking

This is my first time posting here, but I need to ask someone about this particular problem before I see a doctor (due to the cost of seeing a doctor and not having any health insurance). I've recently been afflicted with a painful tongue issue. The surface of my tongue is a whitish color with red spots interspersed. It's mild looking, but can be clearly seen in high resolution photographs as a sort of white, velvety coating. The red bumps aren't painful.
The only real life style change I've done recently was change tooth brushes, I got one of those with a tongue scraper on the back. Well, I though cleaning my tongue in the morning and then smoking 10 cigarettes through out the day might have been the cause somehow. But I also generally eat on the go and so I eat a lot of processed food, and I didn't know if anyone had a stable, healthy diet and still had this condition.
Nicotine stains fingers, tongue, teeth, gums, walls, ceilings and anything else it comes into contact with so this might be the issue. Smoking also reduces your bodies capacity to carry oxygen and blocks the small blood vessels, a condition called Bergers Disease in which sufferers may lose limbs. Today, no one can really claim to be ignorant of the effects of smoking so it is good that you have decided to quit.
I have been looking at things to help me quit smoking. Smoking aid sites have given me the first feeling of calm I have had all week from the panic of just THINKING about quitting. I buy cheap smokes and my aid can't cost very much more than my habit. I will starve lol I smoke 1 carton-1 1/2 cartons a week for 20-30 dollars Canadian. I do not have many dollars more than 30 a week to help me quit, but to go cold turkey means I will go insane. I am not kidding.
I had told u about my not being able to speak properly, which i suspected was of smoking. I tried reducing smoking, but that was not so successful. But , today i noticed that when i looked into the mirror, my tongue is not fully red or pink..it is mostly white...as full of white dots....i think this is a deficiency of something..can u prescribe me medicines so as to me able to speak properly with my tongue?
I just noticed today 2 bright red lines under my tongue and what appears to be piece of skin hanging from it. Has anyone seen this from taking PEP before or is HIV definitely taking hold? I looked up pics for STD's and nothing came up. I found one pic online that looked like this and the guy had no idea what it was neither did anyone else. I heard there were many side effects of pep and I have had none so far except feeling a little anxious like I just quit smoking.
I quit taking all my anti consultants, Not recommended without recommendation from a Neurologist. and did not have any seizures what so ever.
Man am I glad to see other people with tongue problems. I have had pain on the side of my tongue for nearly 1.5 years - both on the left side and the right side. I have talked to two general MD's, one ENT, and two dentists about it and nobody can seem to give me a clue as to what's wrong. The left side of my tongue always seems sensitive. It seems to be foliate pappitis to me but what do I know. I do know that I have cut wayyyy back on sugar (about 90%) and things have improved.
Just about 2 months ago I began developing strange allergic reactions. They have occurred on my feet, hands, back of knee, upper thigh, lip and now tongue. I have gone to the doctor before and they said it was contact dermatitis. I have not figured out what I'm allergic to yet and am still waiting for a call back from the allergy department. Last night, I woke up at about 3am with a swollen tongue. It really freaked me out.
Glossitis is a sore tongue. If you have glossitis, your tongue will be redder than usual and will be sensitive to salty and sour foods, and carbonated beverages." No mention of Ben&Jerry or Hostess Cupcakes.
I do that, have a deep filling done and suddenly the pain is constant and terrible and now includes my tongue...which is by far the worst and scariest. So far, this is still going on. I have seen three dentists, an oral surgeon, two ent's and a neurologist besides my gp and the prompt care doctor I started with. I have had a brain mri, a neck ultrasound, and a neck CT scan.
I was smoking but got what seemed like burns all over my tongue..very painful burns. Like bumps. I kept rinsing my mouth with hydrogen peroxide ...and they have healed....but I have stopped the hcg as well. i can't tell if there is a connection..... could it be viral.....?
There were far greater effects, my tongue went completely numb and it was as if i was having numbness surging through my body for the period of the high, it felt as if my heart was racing, and it generally freaked me out, so i decided to sleep it off. ever since the following morning I’ve had this strange sort of 'hung over' feeling but different.

The battle to stay clean started about a months ago and we are concerned on the long term effects on his body. His entire body is convered with a fine sand type of film no matter how often he showers. Areas of the body appear red and dry as if burned by a chemical. Is this chemical coming out of his body? What can we expect in the future as far as his major organs are concerned. Thank you.
My doctor is now suggesting that I slowly stop taking Xanax and replace it with Paxil. With all of the horrible stories and side effects of Paxil, is there a reason that I just can't continue taking Xanax as I have been? I do realize that it is habit forming, but with Paxil, you can't just quit taking that either and I don't see that Xanax has the same horror stories attached that Paxil does.

I was released. I was told I should have no side effects. But now I have bad head aches on my left temple and I get a stabbing pain on my temple and neck, that last that last just several seconds. Also my speach has been effected slightly. Often I will be talking and a word will pop in a sentence where it doesnt belong, and I forget just what I want to say. Could you tell me how long these symptons last?
lol So, I totally understand you considering quitting smoking NOW, too, being only 9 days clean. For ME, quitting smoking right now would increase my chances of sabotaging my recovery from opiates. Doesn't resonate as "wise" for me right now. It's definitely a future goal for me, but I have learned that I do better with "bite size pieces"....one habit/addiction at a time. You may not be like me at all.....
In the last few years I have had tiny white bumps appear on the tip of my tongue and my tongue appears swollen. In the past I have taken benadryl and that has taken care of it. They seem to come more often now. I keep up on my teeth cleanings and fillings if needed. I also suffer now from hypothyroidism due to the irradation of my thyroid due to hyperthyroidism. Could that be the cause? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
After surgery about a year ago on my knee, I noticed that my tongue developed cracks in it. I was told it was possibly due to the anestesia. Since, then it has not gone away. This has now gone to the roof of my mouth as well. No doctor, even the specialist knows what it is. He has me taking Predensone(?) dissolving on my tongue 3 times a day. This does not seem to be helping either. Does anyone know what this is. Per my doctors, this in not geographic tongue.
all prescribed at throughout the last 10 years.even tried cocaine and smoking crystal meth for a couple months.the only thing that seems to make me feel half way normal.is when i'm on the suboxone,or the reason i'm on suboxone now.which is oxycontin during the day and xanax at night.i don't know what kind of life i will have.if i taper off the sub.will the depression be too much?i guess my question is for someone that's been on suboxone for a long time.

She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.

ONE important thing to remember that I learned, and have never forgotten is that these two effects CANNOT exist without anxiety.....but that anxiety can exist without these sensations. Derealization is basically a change, an alteration in the PERCEPTION or experience of the external world....in other words...everything LOOKS very strange, very "unreal" (movie like, in my experiences). Depersonalization is a subjective experience of unreality of one's self. So the difference is...
I have literally felt sick for about 3 years now. Mouth dryness tongue hurts feeling like I'm gargling battery acid canker sores on back and sides of tongue. Throat feels like strep but no white spots no inflammation hard to swallow and cannot drink enough water to quench this thirst. Ears are in constant pain. I am constantly plugging my nose and trying to push out the pressure. Unbearable most of the time. Unable to speak clear at times. Mush mouth. Constantly clenching my teeth together.
