Avatar m tn But we all know that smoking has its negative effects in the body and the lungs is the part that usually gets affected more when we smoke. Hopefully it doesn't harm yours since you said you're just smoking occasionally. But if you really want to get better, you will never go back to that bad habit of smoking again. You can consider e-cig as a better and healthier alternative to smoking instead.
Avatar f tn Not to mention the fact thanks the all those toxic elements, your baby can be born already going though withdraw. Which create more issues in your babys health, mood, breathing, and growth.

Avatar n tn You will need a detailed functional evaluation of your lung function and respiratory and cardiovascular function since chronic smoking can lead to various ill effects. You could be suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease like bronchitis or emphysema, heart attacks, strokes, cancer oral cavity and cancer lung. Avatar n tn Im sure your lungs will thank you later. Smoking anything, of course, is detrimental to your lungs. Second, Marijuana abuse alone does NOT cause any physical abnomalities to your brain, so the answer to question number two is "no scan". Marijauna/THC acts as a Serotonin reuptake inhibitor, allowing you to have higher serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel good chemical. Antidepressants that fall into the SSR catagory do the same thing.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I developed asthma after being around 2nd hand smoke for a few months. Does this mean that my lungs will get worse with time? What can I do to improve my lung function? thanks very much!
Avatar n tn Antibiotics for infections and bronchodilators for bronchospasm. And of course avoidance of smoking to prevent further damage to the lungs. If the inhalers are inadequate consult your doctor for alternate ones. Talk to your GP regarding this in the meantime you could try warm salt water gargles, steam inhalations and breathing exercises. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I quit nearly 3mos ago, and still have congestion...which is slowly getting better. I've been using Musinex to keep things moving. When one stops smoking, the coughing stops also, so now all that phlegm is just sitting in the lungs and sinuses with nowhere to go...leaving congestion. The Musinex works Very well in thinning all that out. I make myself cough throughout the day even if I don't have the urge. Blow my nose also, even if I only feel stuffed up. Just keep things moving!
Avatar m tn I am still undiagnosed and as it seems will not be any time soon, even if I have a lot of symptoms. What I wanted to ask is, I have read that smoking can cause more often relapsing or going into progressive form of disease. I am ex smoker considering cigarettes (commercial ones which you inhale in lungs), but I occasionally smoke Cuban cigar which you do not inhale but you just puff into your mouth and out. I cannot find anything for them.
Avatar m tn The best way to realise the effects of smoking is to get a volunteer who has never smoked to have a cigarette. Ask them how they feel. Apart from the arteries, the Alveoli in the lungs (where oxygen exchange takes place) are inflamed and filled with nasty substances. Smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood. I'm not preaching here, I used to have the habit.
Avatar f tn I do know that cigarette smoke temporarily immobilizes the cilia in your lungs, which generally do the job of sweeping out the junk from your lungs. I can see the shortness of breath being due to the extra mucous being stuck in your lungs. However if this doesn't clear up say by 8 weeks, then perhaps it would be an idea to see your doctor, as there maybe an underlying lung condition. Especially if it really starts to interfere with your every day life.
Avatar n tn I know that carbon monoxide with smoking is but I have pretty much stopped smoking and am thinking about resorting to other methods such such as tinctures, eating, etc. But I still do not know, will THC increasing my heartrate and all still be bad for my condition?
Avatar f tn I stopped smoking for almost a year, unfortunatly I started back. About two or three months after stopping I started coughing a lot and having trouble breathing. My lungs were trying to get all the 'crapout' from years of smoking. It shouldn't last long, your lungs are probably just trying to repair themselves. Congrates!!!
Avatar m tn This predisposes to greater damage to the lungs and makes marijuana smokers are more prone to bullous disease as compared to cigarette smokers." Patients who smoke marijuana inhale more and hold their breath four times longer than cigarette smokers. It is the breathing manoeuvres of marijuana smokers that serve to increase the concentration and pulmonary deposition of inhaled particulate matter - resulting in greater and more rapid lung destruction.
Avatar m tn Long-term use can cause psychotic symptoms. It can also damage the lungs and the heart, worsen the symptoms of bronchitis and cause coughing and wheezing. It may reduce the body’s ability to fight lung infections and illness.
Avatar f tn The most important thing you can do at this time is to make up your mind to stop smoking now and work with your doctor to make that happen. Most states have a Quit Line and you may also want to call your state’s Quit Line. You should also ask your doctor if he/she has considered the possibility of a cause of your recent shortness of breath, other than smoking or COPD, just to be on the safe side.
6763842 tn?1385390664 You still smoke, you are still absorbing nicotine into your lungs/blood stream, just eliminated the tars. Vapor smoking is banned in all hospital grounds and smoking bans include your new vapor smoking in public areas in my state. If you don't believe that it is addictive, just quit and see how you feel. Millions and millions of us have quit smoking, I urge you to find a way to get the monkey off your back.
Avatar m tn I know this is something you do not want to hear but the only way to keep your lungs healthy is to quit smoking. Deep breathing exercises, blowing into a balloon, yoga, brisk walking etc all make your lungs strong. Along with this you need to quit smoking, avoid second hand smoke, avoid polluted areas with smoke and dust, and eat healthy and drink 6-8 glasses of water every day. Take care!
Avatar m tn The first step would be to stop worrying. The lungs age with smoking as in comparison to the person’s age. If you stop smoking at this point, the lungs are not damaged any further, though the damage that has already been done cannot be reversed. So, giving up smoking would be first step towards controlling your symptoms. Treatment for bronchitis is usually symptomatic. Antibiotics for infections and bronchodilators for bronchospasm.
Avatar f tn Lower the amount of oxygen and nutrient available your growing baby. Increase your baby's heart rate. Increase the chances of miscarriage and stillbirth. Increase the risk that your baby is born prematurely and/or born with low birth weight. Increase your baby's risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems. Second hand smoke has been shown to be just as harmful.
