Avatar f tn Dear alimta214: Smoking decreases circulation and can therefore influence healing. We would not recommend smoking at all but especially before and after surgery.

Avatar f tn While you will likely have no problems with healing, even if you are still smoking, there are definite risks for healing. In addition smoking also clearly affects your pulmonary status and has potential affects when undergoing general anesthesia. It probably takes a year or more after discontinuing smoking to put any individual in the same status as a non-smoker.

Avatar n tn 1) I am a smoker (1 pack a day) and was wondering if quitting or stopping smoking could benefit me with the healing of my bone. I read that smoking significantly delays or even prevents certain fractures from healing and I'm wondering if I stop now will my chances of non-invasive healing improve? If so, by how much? Does anyone have any experiences where they stopped smoking and started noticing improvements with their fracture?
Avatar n tn Given how unhealthy smoking is, my advice is to use this as an opportunity to quit. You've already gone a week so the nicotine is out of your system. The worst of the physical withdrawal process is past. Your healing with be faster if you don't resume smoking. Smoking causes decreased blood circulation throughout your entire body that lasts for hours after you finish your cigarette.
Avatar f tn I have a close friend who has been addicted to marijuana for a long time, she also smoked during her pregnancy and no they did not test her for it when she gave birth. I don't know much on the effects of marijuana use during pregnancy but I strongly suggest that you look into that for the benefit of the baby. I know that she breastfed for quite a while, continuing to pass the drug onto her child. Our sons are the same age and have been friends since infancy.
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
Avatar f tn Do you mean PVD posterior vitreous detachment? Smoking does not cause retinal detachments or PVDs but it does cause: cataracts, macular degeneration, reduced night vision, blood clots in the arteries and veins and is one of the worst things you can do to your body and your eyes.
Avatar m tn Yeah, im an AVID smoker and i think, maybe wait on smoking for now. What about a vap cig? Isnt that just water vapor? Maybe look into that?
Avatar f tn The liver filters everything that goes into your body. The chemicals from smoking may not get a first pass through the liver as if you'd eaten them but smoking is not liver friendly.
Avatar f tn If you stop smoking, that's the best thing you can do. You are young, you've only smoked a couple of cigarettes and you can reverse the effects if you quit. Good for you for being concerned about it! Be tough and stop smoking now!
Avatar f tn Look up some articles if you want to know the effects of smoking. You don't want to put anything into your body tat isn't good for either of you while you are pregnant. I don't know of any doctors who would encouraged you to continue smoking unless you are stressing out more from not smoking.

Avatar f tn Google how smoking effects your baby. One was it increases the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). That alone should be enough for someone to quit but a lot of moms turn a blind eye to the negative side effects. Best of luck quitting! !!
Avatar n tn did your dentist explain the complications of smoking afterwards? do you mind the pain of dry socket? does an extended healing time bother you? if not smoke away!
Avatar f tn I was a smoker and stopped straight away i dont even crave anymore and i do feel a lot better for it although ive got to admit i have to watch what i eat as at first i think i ate to give me something to do lol. Im not saying its not going to be hard especially if you have smokers around you but id also ask them to refrain from smoking anywhere near you.
20830596 tn?1554933789 Hello, has anyone ever taken PPIs or acid blockers (such as Prilosec, Prevaid, Nexium, Protonix, Zantac, Pepcid, etc) & had an increase in OCD or anxiety? I had peptic ulcer a while back (not caused by h. pylori), & all of these meds seem to make my OCD almost intolerable (especially when I'm at work looking at spreadsheets full of numbers).
