Tuesday I was told I have emphysema (soon to be determinded because on my xray the impression said possible COPD) and made an appointment with a pulmonologist. I was also having chest pains for which I went to the doctor for then he ordered a chest x-ray. He did say the chest pains and emphysema weren't related but could possibly be from stress. There are prescriptions to help stop smoking.

I'm sure there's going to be some discomfort, but we've all (those who have quit smoking) gone through discomfort with both the smoking cessation AND being hypo until we got to the correct level of medication.

If there is bronchospasm, this can be relieved by bronchodilators. To improve lung function practice breathing exercises. If the oxygenation is inadequate, supplemental oxygen therapy may be needed. Should you at any time in the future experience unexpected shortness of breath, it would be reasonable for you to be checked for asthma and if demonstrated, seeking treatment for it. The anxiety you describe seems to be having a negative effect on your quality of life. I suggest that seek treatment for that.
