Avatar m tn My elder son is now 3 years and 4 months. His speech development is as slow as a kid who is 18 months to 24 months old. He started speaking 2 to 3 word sentences when he reached 3 years. He can identify pictures of family and relatives. Still he speaks some words which are quite meaningless. He has a few symptoms like slapping his hand on the face or hitting his head on the floor when he gets angry. He has been very interested in TV ads since 6 to 7 months of age.
Avatar n tn m not sure where your from so its probably called something different but there should be programs where you are that helps with children speech development they came to your house they will observe your child and then set up appointments depending on how much and what kind of help she needs they come to your home for the appointments so the child is comfortable there is usually no charge depending on your insurance and they will be able to tell you if she needs testing for autism and where you
Avatar f tn He has been seen by a child development doctor. He has had one session of speech therapy, another in a couple of weeks. He has got an appointment with an occupational therapist next week. I received a copy of the letter addressed to my doctor with a report from when I saw the Child development doctor that said he has mild Hypotonia??? My question is does anyone have a child like mine who has or had similar development delays and what was the outcome.
Avatar m tn My grandson just turned two. His development seems to be right on track with everything except for speach. He is not saying any words at all. He jabbers and attempts to say a couple of words like Juice or Mom but nothing clear. He understands but no attempt to speak. The doctor said not to worry, is this normal?
Avatar n tn The rapid mood swings are typical of what I saw in both my boys and in other normal 2 year old children we play with. The question is does he have the behavior problems (biting hitting etc) in all situations or is he normally better with someone in particular. I've discovered my 2 year old never hits or bites at preschool but at home he feels its a way to get my attention when I'm working with my other child or he does it when he doesn't get his way with his brother.
Avatar f tn Should I wait for the assessment or there is signs to worry and it could be more than just speech delay? Should I encourage his interest in numbers and letters or try to remove all the toys with numbers and letters? Thank you for any advise!
Avatar n tn t think conversationally he is up to par for a four year old. I am thinking of putting him in speech therapy to see if this will help his social and conversating skills. If you ask him questions, most of the time he can answer you. I am just worried and want him to do well in school when he starts in August 2010. Do you think speech therapy will benefit him?
342647 tn?1291107933 That is normal and it actually sounds like your baby might be advanced in the speech department! Just keep speaking clearly and talking a lot to them and they'll pick it all up. Your pediatrician will start assessing speech development during visits. At least they SHOULD. You might notice, as they do the exam, the doctor will ask your child questions like, "What's your favorite food? Do you have a special toy?" to coax them into talking to see how well they speak.
Avatar n tn Sometimes children with autism will use phrases from shows or from conversations they have heard other people have in their speech.
Avatar f tn She understands what we tell her, she knows and points where the moon or the stars are, or get her slippers or eat her food. She loves to play with children. Does she just have delayed development? What are the things that I may do at home to improve her verbal development? I don't want to wait till she gets 2 years old and realize it's too late for me to do something about it. I am located in the Philippines and I am not sure that I will find an expert to help her.

Avatar f tn The center did an eval of him, but said sometimes the results can be skewed because the test was administered while other children were in the room. They had his emotional development at 11 months and cognitive at 12 months.
Avatar f tn any way he has been have development delays, especially in his speech, and behavioral problems. any information would be helpful, i dont know what to do. we saw a developmental specialist a year ago because his pediatrician thought he was showing signs for autisms, but that was ruled out and was diagnosed with anxiety problems. he still is having major problem in school and going to see the specialist again in a few weeks. thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.
Avatar f tn My granddaughter is 3 yrs., 9 mos. She is still not potty trained despite consistency in putting her on the potty. She screams and covers her ears when you mention it's time to go on the potty. She also does not seem to know how to interact with other children. She will say hi to them, but if asked a question, doesn't answer or moves to something else. Her speech is fine, she just doesn't use it much If I ask her what she did at the playground, I get no response.
168006 tn?1241012961 So I am reading the comments and noticed something. All of you have sons that have this speech regression or speech issue. Is it more prominent in boys? I know that boys' speech development is usually later than girls. My 20-month old daughter says quite a bit and repeats everything we say, or tries to. But I have a nephew who is 4 months older than her and he says a few things but mostly grunts. So just wondering if this is predominantly a boy thing?
293420 tn?1243142938 I requested this a few months ago and got a reply saying that it would be considered...but, still nothing. There are at least 5-8 posts per week about Speech/Language delays in the child development forum. I'm an SLP and my son has Apraxia (motor speech disorder). Not only do I have lots of advice to offer to parents of children with speech delays, but it would be nice to network with other moms going through the same experiences. Hurry!
Avatar f tn My nephews walk on thier toes constantly (ages 7 and 9). I'm wondering if this is something that their parents should be concerned with. I have ask if they have discussed this with their pediatrician and they said they never have and didn't seem very concerned about it at all. Both of my nephews are very slow in developing their language skills also and I don't know if this is connected to the toe walking or not.
Avatar n tn The symptoms you mentioned such as changes in mental status - confusion, irritability, slow thought processes, decreased movement and speech, headache and language difficulties, and vision changes are consistent with brain abscess symptoms. Talk to his lawyer about his case and discuss the legal aspects of this. You can also discuss this with his attending physician and see if he or she can help by providing a medical certificate .Take care and do keep us posted.
404138 tn?1308941656 re 2 1/2 and they only have a dozen words. Many children with delayed speech have more frequent tantrums because they can't easily make their needs known. If you babysit for them again, try to teach them some simple requests. For example, try to teach them the word foe water and practice having them say it. Then ask them to say it when they want it and before you give it to them. If you're not a very familiar person to them and if their parents don't do that, they may get frustrated.
Avatar f tn You have 5 children now and it almost seems that having 5 children all healthy is beating the odds but in truth you do have all healthy children. So count your lucky stars and enjoy.
