I actually asked a pharmacist if it was ok to take, and she said that it causes a lot of problems with people. If you read the back you'll see a list of possible side effects. If I were you I'd try something like slim fast. I went to their website and they say it's ok to take before you get pregnant and even while you are pregnant, there's nothing in it to make you lose weight it's just a milk shake and the snack bars are like a not so junky candy bar.
Is it ok to drink slimfast while pregnant? I have gained too much weight so far. I started out tiny and now my mid section is huge! I'm not looking to lose weight but eating hurts. My lower back is in excruciating pain and I know it's from the weight gain and due to my belly sticking so far out. I'm only 25 weeks pregnant and I feel the only option is to eat tiny meals to keep up my energy because after I eat my stomach feels so tight b it just hurts.
As a family of 5 with two children and myself being on meds and only one person working, I need some economical lowcarb ideas for meals and/or snacks. The lowcarb thing is new to my entire family. Any info would be helpful. Also, any info on how to naturally lower my blood pressure is also welcome. Thanks!
my weight either remains the same or increases. eg. after working very hard in the gym and following a low-carb diet, i was able to lose only 3 kgs!! even my personal trainer and friends and family felt there's something not right. I recently got blood test done along with a USG scan. my thryroid seems to be fine and i do not have pcos. but my prolactin levels are high ie 31.5 ng/ ml. could you please advise me as to what this means?
Hi Lurius,
Net carbs are getting lots of attention these days because of all the Atkins dieters, but it's actually long been an important concept for diabetics who do carbohydrate "counting" and then try to match our insulin to the amount of carbos we're eating.
Foods that have carbos typically have a combination of carbos that we can metabolize (and therefore will affect our BG) and those that we can't (fiber). We subtract fiber from total carbs to get net carbs.
hi has any one done the slimfast diet----(milkshakes) and lost weight. How lond could u go on for? I'm planning to go on it but will do only one shake for dinner and have breakfast and lunch as normal.
Welcome to the community.
Try walking at a reasonable pace. Also look into yoga as it's low impact and done at a slow very deliberate pace.
Be sure to watch what you eat as well - might also help the e-coli infection.
Or is there other things that you do? I noticed I can only put if my carb is low , medium or high and it fills the plate but I'm not sure what is considered low , etc...
m counting points but I am also chugging back a weight loss shake everyday as part of those points. There is no way I could ever do the Slim-Fast plan or anything like it. I just like the amount of nutrients in the form of chocolate milk i can get! Makes a great difference if I need a boost before working out or just need something to keep me going while I make dinner. ^_^ Anyways, some of them certainly don't taste very good. My favorite so far comes from Wal-Mart.
The ones made for diabetics are designed to help keep blood sugars level. We have found the Zone bars, and the bars that are low carbs (they say to count as a lower carb. than on the label.) Have worked better for keeping our daughters blood sugars in line.
If you cannot find one that you feel is good for you, call your nutritionist and ask him/her for some suggestions.
I hope this is not your last question and that you will visit this forum again.
I have low LDL, high HDL, low triglycerides, and a good ratio. I'm 58, slim and exercise. Yet, my blood work got flagged for high cholesterol. I eat low carb, but definitely not keto. How can my cholesterol be high?
Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
I had the same problem. I had low LDL but also low HDL and hight triglycerides. I was
taking 40mg of Atorvastatin a day but diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia. My
Cardiologist added 10mg Ezetimibe to my regime and it acted like a turbo booster to my
statin. Within a week my LDL was lower still, my HDL raised and my Trigs lowered right
down. Statins work on the Liver, Ezetimibe works on the Digestive tract to prevent so much fat being absorbed.
I keep some SlimFast shakes (or sometimes a store brand) in the fridge for those times when I don't have time for breakfast or just something quick. They come in several flavors and served ice cold, they are quite tasty.
So to lose the belly fat should I start a lowcarb diet and start strength training? Anyone that has a good resource on Internet to start to look into both? Thanks to everyone!
If you feel that your heart rate is higher after eating high carb meals, it may be caused by low blood sugar after eating carbs (reactive hypoglucemia). The solution if that's the case is avoiding high carb meals or adding proteins and healthy fat.
another thing that helps me make it between meals is to make a slimfast shake. they are meant to replace meals so they have lots of protein and other nutrients. it helps me make it from lunch to dinner and then often I eat less at dinner because I'm still full!
