Sleep problems no rem

Common Questions and Answers about Sleep problems no rem

sleep

Avatar f tn I recently had a sleep study done and it showed no apnea, no REM and on average waking up 18 times an hour. I was but on Nuvigil 150mg and have been taking for 4 days but I don't want to take it anymore for several reasons. One it only lasts about 6 hrs and then I hit a wall. The second reason is I just feel creepy inside and my hrt rate on average is up 15-20 bpm. I just called the Doc to tell them about it and they are supposed to call back.
Avatar n tn What did your sleep studies find to be the cause for you not reaching REM? Are there other sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or limb movements that keep you from reaching REM?
Avatar m tn I haven’t been able to sleep deeply for years. I had a sleep test last year, and according to the test results, I do not have sleep apnea but recorded very little third stage of sleep and no REM sleep at all. I’ve been prescribed various sleep aids, but they didn't do anything. Doctors I’ve seen here put me through many tests to help me, but nothing came up. I’ve lived this way for many years, and I’m always tired. My memory is being affected also. I’d appreciate any help I can get.
Avatar m tn Finding the root cause of his segmented sleep is important, as sleep deprivation can cause meory loss and disjointed thinking, and you don't want him to get misdiagnosed.
Avatar f tn my biggest issue is the pain, then what i call freezing up when i go into a deep sleep the pain is soooo intense when i go into a deep sleep more than when i get my couple hours. i was diagnosed with no rem which is dreaming. but when i do rem thats when the freezing happens. i also had abnormal eeg when sleepin.
1221035 tn?1301000508 alpha waves firing during delta (deep) sleep resulting in non restorative sleep. As well, it took me 4.5 hours to ever get to REM sleep, then it was reduced. I am diagnosed with Mutiple Sclerosis, Complex Partial Seizures, Pernicous Anemia, Severe Migraines, Scolosis, and 3 herniated disc. My question is can any of my medical problems account for these sleep problems.....I guess I am wanting to know if this is a common sleep problem for someone with MS or Epilepsy or Migraines???
Avatar m tn You are in luck! REM sleep is the sleep subject I have the most expertise in! This is because I have a disease that revolves around disordered REM sleep (narcolepsy with cataplexy). So, first off, you may find it reassuring to know that REM sleep, contrary to popular misconception, is not "deep sleep." Deep sleep is actually NREM stages III and IV.
612551 tn?1450022175 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. A lot of studies are going on to study the importance of REM sleep, which is the dream phase of sleep. Psychologists generally agree that achieving the dream state of sleep is a critical element for maintaining good mental health.
967168 tn?1477584489 the timing of the tachy is about 15 prior to rem; but then 2 other times during the night are no where near rem, which I found interesting.

4686261 tn?1358135192 It took me 20 minutes to get to sleep, woke up twice to use bathroom, slept a total of 363 minutes, 47 min (13%) in stage 1, 72% (261 min) in stage 2, and 14% (51 min) in stage 3. Only 3.6 minutes in REM sleep, and REM latency was 375 minutes. My dr didn't read the report except where it ruled out what he was concerned with -- apnea & PLMD. I have fibromyalgia, and some sort of autoimmune or neuromuscular something...
Avatar n tn ive heard you get erections when sleeping during the rem stage, but when i go to sleep i wake up about 4 or 5 times during the night or when ever with no erection, does this mean ive woke up in the non rem sleep stage,is this normal.also when i go back to sleep again i normally wake up with an erection.so what im asking should i have an erection everytime i wake up in the night or just in the rem stage.im 31 years old and healthy.
Avatar m tn just wondering what happens when you go without rem sleep for too long? the first 4 nights of wd, I used promethazine, and it helped me get at least 4 or 5 hours sleep.I'm on night 5, the pains are pretty much over, i didn't take any sleep aides last night and got no sleep at all.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I just had a sleep study this week and my results are reduced rem and delta sleep and alpha wave intrusion into delta sleep. I have a lot of medical problems. I am diagnosed with Mutiple Sclerosis, Complex Partial Seizures, Pernicous Anemia, Severe Migraines, Scolosis, and 3 herniated disc. My question is can any of my medical problems account for these sleep problems.....I guess I am wanting to know if this is a common sleep problem for someone with Epilepsy or Migraines or MS???
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.

Avatar m tn I just had a sleep study done which stated the "sleep architecture was severely disrupted" and that I only had one episode of REM. I had "no significant non REM supine sleep present". I only had an apnea-hypopnea index of 5 and my lowest O2 sat was 90%. What are the implications of the above. I apparently only have mild apnea, so what does severely disrupted sleep architecture with only one episode of REM mean to me and what can be done to mitigate this type of sleep problem.
254714 tn?1316613355 0% and stage 4 sleep at 0.0% there was 3 rem sleep periods rem sleep was normal at 16.5% the rem latency was at 123.5 min.. the overall apnea hypopnea index was mild at 6.2 events/hr. the remspecific index was 1.3 events/hr the supine index was 7.8 events/hr there was 28 obstructive hypopneas with a mean duration of 14.8 seconds mean saturation was 98.2 with a nadir saturation in non- rem sleep of 98.0% and in rem sleep of 96.0% 100.
Avatar f tn Talk to your husbands Dr about Melatonin. It is the only thing that worked for me. Hope this helps.
2038180 tn?1329861306 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility.
Avatar f tn These drugs aren't usually associated with that as much as some antidepressants are, but you are taking two drugs that work on the same neurotransmitter, GABA, and are both sedating. You also report sleep problems, and I have to say, taking a benzo for sleep is not a good idea. It's an addictive drug and interferes with REM sleep and over the long term will leave you with a benzo problem and rebound insomnia. And Neurontin is very sedating.
Avatar f tn Sleep study also showed no REM sleep. I take paxil for anxiety, wellbutrin for mood and energy, and clonidine. Sleep doc wants me off paxil b/c of its effect on REM sleep. Could I take trazodone for anxiety with the wellbutrin? Or something else for anxiety that doesn't affect rem sleep?
Avatar f tn overall, mild obstructive apnea, becoming severe in rem sleep with mild oxygen desaturation.I used a nose prong (resimed) for three weeks no problems at all, then developed dermatitus in and below my nose, sore and unsightly.I tried a mouth splint ,with lots of adjustments, had facial and ear pain.My doctor advised perservering with c-pap,but also adding the apnea was not bad....total rdi=12.1/hr.I am going on a cruise next week, and I am worried.
Avatar f tn Female, in good health, no known history of sleep disturbances, other than talking in sleep occasionally; taking no medication or OTC pain relievers (occasionally I took vitamins) December 23 or 24, 2005: After taking 12 hour auto trip, and had one night of sleep at destination (Haines, Alaska, staying at a friend’s house). This happened the second or third night of my stay there.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forums, your symptoms are suggestive of rapid eye movement (REM) related parasomnias involve the intrusion of the features of REM sleep into wakefulness (eg, sleep paralysis). It is a type of sleep disorder. Few of the individuals are known to suffer from parasomnias esp. when they are on non-benzodiazepine sedatives, drug abuse etc. otherwise no definitive cause exists in few individuals apart from stress, positive past history of abuse etc.
568812 tn?1379165794 Like MJ said - SP is related to REM sleep - normally during REM your body is paralyzed but sometimes the switches get mixed up and your brain is awake but body still in REM state. I've learned to just let it ride and like MJ i recite the lords prayer in my head over and over and before i know it i've fallen asleep again. Things that increase my SP are stress, stress, and more stress!!!!
1764925 tn?1682604632 This is evident in the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). But there are no REM episodes in your MSLT ruling out the possibility of Narcolepsy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
