Common Questions and Answers about Sleep problems after surgery

sleep

Avatar m tn Six days out of LAD bypass surgery. Can't sleep. Hot and sweaty, then get so cold that my teeth chatter. Heart feels like it's racing. Also having bad constipation. They've got me on Plavix, Aspirin, Iron, Tenormin, DocQlace, Hydroco/Apap for pain. Was prescribed Meloxicam, but not taking it because of what I read about it and bypass surgeries. Would love to get some sleep.
Avatar f tn But I have heard of a correlation between sleep issues and Chiari, usually having to do with not getting quality sleep because of either sleep apnea or lack of deep sleep (something with REM, I forget what it was exactly). Are you tired but unable to sleep? Is there anything keeping you up such as pain, racing thoughts / stress, etc? How long have you had this sleep pattern?
624074 tn?1263873807 ) I know my daughter was sleeping with pillows prupt up for a long time before her tethered cord surgery because her back and leg pains were unbareable. After the surgery it kind of got better but then she too got hit with the same Chiari truck:D And her symtoms kicked in really quick with the unbareable head, neck, shoulder pain, tingling arms, hands, her legs again everyhing, she felt like all her symptoms before her TC surgery were coming back.
Avatar f tn My question is, what do his anesthesiologists need to know before he undergoes pituitary surgery with unconfirmed sleep apnea? I would like him to have a sleep study done before surgery. Would a sleep study be able to pinpoint the source of his apnea, such as whether it is central, obstructive or a cardio-pulmonary problem? His new endocrinologist said his symptoms are not typical of other pituitary patients. FYI, His tumor is not secreting hormones; he has hypopituitarism from mass effect.
Avatar f tn After surgery they checked left side and was a small cyst and that's how the other side started . If it's not thyroid related then what else could it be ?
661788 tn?1269014586 Hi! Yes i have sleep problems too but they kinda cycle. I go a week or so with insomnia and then have weeks where i cant seem to get enough sleep. I also have sleep apnea but the cpap machine doesnt help much so even if i didnt have chiari i would always be tired because of the apnea. Sorry i know that doesn't help much just sharing.
Avatar f tn If you have a sore tooth you go to a dentist not a neurologist right? So if you have eye problems, ear problems, stomach problems, joint problems, sleep problems, mood problems, etc, find the right doc.!!
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar f tn I had mine at 35, and had the worst issues with sleep. Estrogen helped, but I needed to take a sleep aid. It's been 20 years this year, and I'm still on a sleep med. Before the surgery, I could fall asleep anywhere. After, sleep became a real issue. Talk to your doctor. I don't know why you had your surgery, and if taking estrogen is not appropriate, but there are several medications that are safe that can help you sleep.

2180412 tn?1337798149 But if there is pain and also for the inability to hold urine you should consult your Doctor for a check up. Weight gain can be because of the imposed rest after a major surgery and can be tackled with the help of regular exercise and dietary modification at a later date. Hope this helps.
967168 tn?1477584489 s worse and I needed to see a sleep specialist. I have had sleep problems all my life and used to get by on 4 hours sleep total a day. The past 5 years or so, I can't sleep past 2 hours at a time and they think this may be aggravating the problem. I saw the sleep specialist yesterday and he said the back of my throat seems to be narrowed and since I had my tonsils out as a young adult the next step is for a CPAP machine.
Avatar f tn the surgeon also did a fundoplication. After being discharged from the hospital, I had problems with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and ended up back in the hospital after five days, had a PICC line inserted and was on TPN. After 10 days, I was discharged again. I continue to have the same problems. Two days ago, my surgeon did an endoscopic dilation. Again, no relief. After eating only a few small bites, I have to try to force myself to burp before I can try to eat anything else.
Avatar m tn How common are breathing problems after cardiac bypass surgery? I am almost 3 weeks post a triple cardiac bypass and my breathing problems still persist. It seems that I also forget to breathe and get that drowning feeling. This is very disturbing and prevents me from sleeping. I asked my visiting nurse about this and he said that breathing problems post cardiac bypass surgery are not common.

2062192 tn?1333714423 Iv got one of the pregnancy pillows but it dosnt seem to be helping at the moment. I cant sleep on my back (my body has never let me sleep on my back for as long as I can remember), and the only position I see to get comfy on is on my tummy but coked up slightly on my right side with my knee helping to prop my side up a little but I move a lot in my sleep and every time I change positions I wake up feeling a bit sick and get a slight pain in my abdomen.
Avatar m tn They are afraid of aliens and being kidnapped. Usually, after an hour or two of trying (and suffering) they break down and ask to sleep on our floor. Should we just make them sleep alone? I am afraid they will lay in bed for hours shaking in their beds and not getting a good nights sleep. Should we just let them sleep on our floor until they grow out of it?
Avatar n tn The problem is, I began the first night after surgery waking up and gasping for air several times a night, unable to sleep more than 1-2 hours at best, constantly getting up, pacing, trying to lie back down and get comfortable to fall asleep and breathe. I'd gasp for air while trying to fall asleep as well. This went on for about 1 week until everything as taken out of my nose by my ENT.
