Avatar f tn And had forced myself to wake up or so I thought only to realize it was yet another nightmare inside a nightmare inside another and so on and so on. The last was I found myself in a burning trailer and knew I wasn't asleep but also knew my surroundings weren't reality and I tried to force myself to wake from this one but couldn't until my teenage daughter walked in then it seemed like I was immediately released. Like walking into a lit room from the dark.
Avatar f tn I actually get sleep paralysis as well... It won't harm your baby at all.
568812 tn?1379165794 All I knew is that it seemed so real and I would keep the lights on. I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
2216810 tn?1420856876 no your not dying, its our minds doing it to us. it was a nightmare and your ok. I know anxiety can do many mean things and it changes all the time, funny thing is its our own mind doing it to us that's how powerful it is. we need to learn to control it and that's not easy. as I know , I am having anxiety myself right now , its ben a while since I had it so its like starting all over and its scary but we will be ok. I pry a lot to.
Avatar f tn I have not experienced it but I understand that the human body goes into a paralysis when the mind goes to sleep. This protects us from the body reacting to something happening in a dream. I further understand some of us can wake up while still inn the paralyzed state. This should pass quickly to the fully conscious sate and control of our body. If you are having problems with nightmares the approach I used at an age younger than you are now is I trained myself to wake up.
Avatar f tn My issues have waxed and waned over the years although I am happy to report no more sleep paralysis.. Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.

Avatar f tn Looks like your nightmares are more disturbing, it could be due to a sleep disorder called “Nightmare disorder”. Here the person experiences symptoms of bad, frightening dreams which interfere with his sleep schedules. This is usually assessed by a set of questionnaires and the therapy is based on the severity of the disorder. Also, recurrence of seizures depends on the cause. However, following good sleep hygiene measures will reduce the severity of occurrence of sleep disorders.
Avatar f tn There are two main types of scary phenomenons in sleep(nightmare and sleep paralysis) that are caused by two main scary symptoms of cardiovascular disease {palpitation and fainting (syncope)}.
Avatar f tn During the process i am paralysed but fully aware of whats happening(its like i become fully conscious from my semi conscious state),i actually want to scream for help but im unable to do so.its almost like sleep paralysis except mine is accompanied with a violent shaking of my brain(feels like this) or my head and an intense feeling of terror.i dont lose consciousness afterwards rather i wake up completely. Sometimes ill hear voices and it often feels like an evil experience.
Avatar m tn It sounds like it could be sleep paralysis to me. I do that all the time. I thought it was "night terrors." I'm fully aware of everything around me, can hear and everything but can't scream out, can't move, nothing. I learned it was common with narcolepsy. You need to go see your primary care doctor and/or get a referral to a sleep specialist.
Avatar f tn Get out of the mind set and focus on things that will enhance your life. Bring out your creative talents. Invent a product. Dont look at life as to what it could be but look at life as what you will make it be.
1305767 tn?1361192676 It's happened to me three times this year. In every instance I dreamed that I was asleep and woke up, in my own house, then something bad starts to happen and I can't move or scream. I really don't realize I'm dreaming because like I said it mimics reality. I think the stress of the dream is what eventually wakes me up.
6926056 tn?1386167926 (9/30/13) 66 days ago I preformed oral sex on my on boyfriend for the first time. For this encounter we did not use protection. 3 days Prior I noticed scabs on my scalp and in my ears. I was using a shampoo that contained sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. Of course i looked on the internet and the result was seborrheic dermatitis. Immediately changed to head and shoulders. Fews days later i noticed a ball on the back of my neck.
Avatar f tn You sleep in cycles light sleep, rem stage is the dreaming stage. While in this stage your large muscles are paralyzed so you dont act out ur dreams and hurt yourself. Sometime during ur rem sleep u may wake for a few seconds (sometimes numerous) during this "hypnopompic" stage ur brain is still dreaming and ur muscles are still paralyzed although you can see hear smell (but not scream) this also known as old hag syndrome.
Avatar f tn This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert. He is actually able to "smell" fluctuations in catecholamine (adrenaline and noradrenaline, aka.
Avatar f tn Hi, your symptoms are suggestive of Nightmare disorder, or dream anxiety disorder, which is a sleep disorder characterized by frequent nightmares or vivid dreams. Nightmare can be defined type of a dream wherein the individuals will be left in a situation where it jeopardizes their life or personal safety, usually occur during the second half of the sleeping process, called the REM stage. It can occur normally in persons but in this disorder it occurs at higher frequency.
567677 tn?1246767776 Hi. This sounds like sleep paralysis to me. Especially because you describe both arms numb etc. sleep paralysis is wear your mind wakes up but your body is still sleeping. I've had this occasionally since my teens. For me I've had it when i've fallen asleep with the tv on, then I think I wake up because I hear someone breaking into the house but I am unable to move.
Avatar n tn Please help! I am really worried about what is happening to me. My boyfriend had told me a several times that I act very weird while I am sleeping. The weirdest thing is that he sees a pattern: I always laugh in my sleep and point at the ceiling. When he wakes me up, I do not recall for me to have any nightmare or unpleasant situation, I just feel like he does not understand what is happening but in reality, I'm just dreaming.
2038180 tn?1329861306 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility.
Avatar m tn If it continues then you should look into a sleep disorder called narcolepsy, as sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations are both symptoms of this. However, it could be that she may have just had a nightmare.
