Common Questions and Answers about Sleep paralysis when falling asleep

sleep-paralysis

Avatar f tn My symptoms come and go, I usually have problems when I sit at my desk during the day. I get tired when I eat and fall asleep shortly after. I fall asleep in the car on the way home. I have been taking vitamins and caffine to counter act, the tiredness. I have bad spider and vericose veins in my legs and have had them for years. I just recently quit smoking and I thought that perhaps that would help because I can't smoke at work any way.
Avatar f tn You can't fall asleep if your brain isn't asleep. Body parts "falling asleep" is caused by pressure on nerves. When the body is asleep, so is the brain. This person is having anxiety dreams, meaning taking anxiety to bed with her. I would ask the poster, what meds are you on? It could be related to your medication.
Avatar m tn It sounds like it could be sleep paralysis to me. I do that all the time. I thought it was "night terrors." I'm fully aware of everything around me, can hear and everything but can't scream out, can't move, nothing. I learned it was common with narcolepsy. You need to go see your primary care doctor and/or get a referral to a sleep specialist.
Avatar n tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
Avatar f tn What you are describing as bed shaking or the abnormal movements while going to sleep could be rhythmic movement disorder, where these movements tend to occur during the stage just prior to falling asleep and typically increase along with stress levels. Sleep paralysis is which occurs when you may go to sleep or may tend to wake up from sleep.
Avatar n tn my experince also includes tremors when falling asleep. i had MRI ECG ETC and nothing. sonce inclusive rapid fast heart cardio suggest anxity prozac but waiting 3 days to discuss wth my neurologists GP. appreciate any updates you might have.
Avatar n tn Now I get non paralysis hallucinations just at the point of falling asleep and I often find myself talking to someone but I can never remember who when I properly wake up. Don't worry about it though, you are not alone, there are millions who suffer with it. You just need to accept that you won't come to any harm and try and relax during the episode. Hopefully then you will just drift off into a proper sleep.

Avatar f tn Sometimes when im falling asleep(not yet fully asleep,in and out of it,semi conscious) and already dreaming, ill see something that causes a great feeling of fear in me, ill then begin to fight falling asleep as i get this feeling of dread because i know what is about to happen which is like something completely gripping or overcoming me(like a prescence), a great feeling of fear or terror, complete immobility or paralysis and a violent shaking experience in my brain.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am not diagnosed, just went to the doctor today and and told her my symptoms and had a lot of blood drawn. Anyway, I have had something similar in the last four weeks. It happened last on Sunday. I was just laying down on my side, resting, when suddenly it felt like someone was squeezing me around my middle. All of my muscles tensed and I couldn't move. I'm not sure exactly how long it lasted. Maybe a couple of minutes. My muscles were sore afterward.
Avatar n tn This is definitely not sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis occurs when a person is either falling asleep or coming out of sleep. And the person has dreams and other experiences which can be frightening, mostly. Sleep apnea is a condition where a person stops breathing for a short span of time (usually 10 seconds or so). Snoring is also observed. But sleep apnea does not allow a person to have deep sleep. He may just be normal.
Avatar f tn Hello. For a few years now there have been times when as I'm falling asleep, it feels like someone grabs gives my leg a hard pull (it happened last night, actually). And there are other times when if I'm having a dream, and something in my dream makes me anxious, I can feel myself start to wake up,or I'm aware that it's a dream (or both), and I fully wake up to my heart racing.
Avatar f tn s another similar phenomena called sleep paralysis. When you are in R.E.M sleep you can become awake while still being in the sleep patern so basicly you are aware but your body is still sleeping. Again this is normal and of course anxiety and stress will boost the frequencies of both falling sensation and sleep paralysis. Don't worry about it, it's not seizures nor any other disease. Don't let livia1881 scares you with myoclonus and seizures.
Avatar f tn I suffer from several disorders, like frequent sleep paralysis, constant lucid dreaming, some mild narcolepsy (as a doctor told me; I don't pass out but I am dragged into sleep with very vivid dreams several times a day/night), and my REM incurs too soon. Many times, though, I've experienced a trumpet sound as I fall asleep? I don't have problems with my ears, I've been tested thoroughly when I had an infection some years ago.
Avatar n tn I am so thankful that you get those, too! I mean, not really, but that means that I am not alone!!!!
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1755089 tn?1376053555 Sounds like it could be Sleep paralysis .Sleep paralysis is associated with sleep that may occur in healthy persons or may be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occurs during REM sleep. When considered to be a disease, isolated sleep paralysis is classified as MeSH D020188. Some evidence suggests that it can also, in some cases, be a symptom of migraine.
Avatar f tn I have never had a single full night's sleep in my entire life as far as I'm aware. Maybe, when I was unaware, as a child, but I don't know for certain. I still remember having interrupted sleep when I was a baby. I also have very poor memory, extremely vivid and realistic dreams (often nightmares), exceptional dream recall, regular sleep paralysis (sometimes several times in a week), lots of lucid dreaming and learning difficulties.
