12594947 tn?1426138835 I have early awakenings and very vivid dreaming almost every night. I also have had sleep paralysis but it has been a long time since my last episode. I had it often as a child though. Alcohol is used by many people for sleep. I don't agree with it but sometimes it is what they choose even if they are delusional about what it is doing to them. From my understanding it takes away from REM sleep. I drink on occasion but never for sleep. It makes me never feel as rested up the next day.
Avatar f tn Also, some of the aspects of REM sleep that normally occur only during sleep—lack of muscular control, sleep paralysis, and vivid dreams—occur at other times in people with narcolepsy." [wiki] did it start all of a sudden and when?
Avatar n tn I usually like doing this as i can have vivid dreams or sometimes lucid dreams. But as I think of the dreams I lose track and sometimes see only black, and the only things I feel are me trembling alot and being unable to breath or move. I try to fight it but sometimes it gets the better of me and I can't stop the oncoming of it. Honestly, its scaring the **** out of me, but I'm wondering if this is normal and I should just stop, or I should see a doctor.
Avatar f tn Someone with narcolepsy will experience the characteristics of REM sleep (vivid dreams and muscle paralysis) at the beginning of sleep, even if that sleep is during the day. It can take YEARS if not decades to diagnose, if you don't have Cataplexy. Could also be that you aren't quite awake yet. Definatly talk with your doc though. Sorry to put all this in here. I am kinda fascinated with it right now because they think I have it.....
1745492 tn?1320198340 Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. Narcolepsy is diagnosed by the sleep onset REM episodes (SOREMs), wherein the person goes into the dream phase or REM cycle soon after sleep onset. This is evident in the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). It can however be regulated with medications.

Avatar f tn Rapid eye movement sleep, or REM sleep, accounts for 20%–25% of total sleep time in most human adults. The criteria for REM sleep include rapid eye movements as well as a rapid low-voltage EEG. Most memorable dreaming occurs in this stage. At least in mammals, a descending muscular atonia is seen. Such paralysis may be necessary to protect organisms from self-damage through physically acting out scenes from the often-vivid dreams that occur during this stage.
Avatar f tn Ever since I entered the second trimester I have been having the most vivid and realistic dreams and nightmares I have ever had.
Avatar f tn Lately I've been having very vivid dreams. They have full stories that I could recite to you without a problem. However, the other night I had a dream where I had to get away from someone and I bit them. I woke up that morning with a pretty deep bite mark on my arm. How did I not wake up from the bite and what's causing my crazy vivid dreams?
Avatar f tn What you are experiencing is called sleep paralysis and hypnogogic hallucinations. Sleep paralysis happens when you start to wake out of a dream but your brain wakes up while your body is still paralyzed (during REM or dream sleep you are paralyzed so you wont hurt yourself acting out your dreams). The hypnogogic hallucinations are related. Do you have panic attacks or narcolepsy by any chance? My doctor told me both those problems make your specific sleep problems more likely.
1123567 tn?1318233260 I had vivid dreams but they werent scary. Some of them freaked me out though due to how real they seemed. Also had alot of sleep paralysis too.
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar f tn I know dreams become a lot more vivid during pregnancy, but I've never heard of a case this severe. You might be best to ask your doctor if there are any meds safe for pregnant women to help with this problem. I wish you the best!
1305767 tn?1361192676 It's happened to me three times this year. In every instance I dreamed that I was asleep and woke up, in my own house, then something bad starts to happen and I can't move or scream. I really don't realize I'm dreaming because like I said it mimics reality. I think the stress of the dream is what eventually wakes me up.
436338 tn?1204359355 Considering you are remembering the events upon waking, you are most likely coming out of REM sleep. If you're unable to move and aware of it, it is likely an episode of SP. Sleep paralysis usuallly produces very vivid scenes that can be very life like. With me I get it in all kinds of stages. It seems to manifest itself into very lucid dreaming.
Avatar m tn Reason I ask is that I have been taking Lipitor since November H.A. and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
568812 tn?1379165794 All I knew is that it seemed so real and I would keep the lights on. I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
Avatar f tn when they sleep in deep night, they will have the extraordinary corresponding horrible dreams, in the dreams, they do some kind of terrible Belial pressuring them or being hunted down, but they can not cry out or escape, which are called nightmare in iatrology. Vague terrors in light sleep, which is known as sleep paralysis.
Avatar f tn Hi, your symptoms are suggestive of Nightmare disorder, or dream anxiety disorder, which is a sleep disorder characterized by frequent nightmares or vivid dreams. Nightmare can be defined type of a dream wherein the individuals will be left in a situation where it jeopardizes their life or personal safety, usually occur during the second half of the sleeping process, called the REM stage. Avatar f tn s really hard to explain because it jumps from vivid dreams, to semi-consciousness and a feeling the I spend the entire night doing math or scientific equations in my mind. I often wake up confused, unable to decipher wake from sleep. I often have to stare at my alarm clock as it rings, working by butt off to figure out what this object is because I'm not fully lucid.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is possible for people with sleep apnea to have vivid dreams. As rightly mentioned the patients with sleep apnea have frequent awakenings in the night due to blockade of windpipe and lack of oxygen, they are often tired and spend less time in REM sleep. REM sleep is that part of sleep cycle where dreams occur.
Avatar f tn Well I fell asleep again and had more vivid, scary dreams. They felt so, so real. Ive had bad nightmares before but nothing like this. I am now scared to go to sleep! Please someone help!!
645800 tn?1466860955 Is exacerbation the word you are looking for? I've never experienced the MS "hug" but perhaps that is what you are experiencing with the tight feeling across stomach. Others will give you more info on that, I'm sure! Hope you can find something to help you sleep without the bad dreams. I have night terrors with no PTSD so I cannot even imagine what you must be going through!
699295 tn?1295358345 my dreams were so vivid that I would wake up and almost not want to go back to get the little sleep that I could...but as everyone stated previously, it seems to be a normal process of brain functioning getting back to regular operations. If you happen to dream of 6 numbers between 1 and 49 with a powerball sign, please post them(lol)! Good Luck with your recovery.
