514704 tn?1228312637 I feel you might be probably suffering from a kind of sleep disturbance known to be sleep paralysis, which occurs when you go to sleep or tend to wake up. It is a temporary phenomenon where in you feel incapable of moving your body or part of it physically but keep trying to shout loudly or seek someone’s help. This may last for just a few seconds to minutes and can repeat once again if you sleep.
Avatar n tn That sounds scary! Is this just as you wake up during the night? Are you really unable to move or speak for a bit or just 'feel' that way? Do you suffer anxiety as you really 'could' be having panic attacks at that moment.
Avatar m tn I think it began when I was in middle school (I'm 25 now), I sometimes partially wake up feeling like something is holding me down for what seems like a minute or two. When it happens, I'm still able to see the room, sometimes I can also hear bits and pieces of whats going on around me, other times I can't hear at all and while all of this is happening my body shakes uncontrollably.
Avatar n tn i can see but not hear and i am unable to breathe. i have kind of gotten used to it. sometimes i can wake/start breathing by concentrating hard on exhaling. which leads me to believe that it is connected in my case to the sleep apnea which i have also had for quite a while.
Avatar f tn Recently I have had 2 nights where I try to go to sleep and i feel as though my body does and i will even snore but yet i am awake mentally and am aware of my surroundings...once I tried to yell out to my husband and couldnt move or talk...I am under huge amounts of stress right now and having alot of pain from some things and was just wondering if this could all be a cause for this and what it means and how to make it stop!
Avatar m tn some nights I'd wake up, and be completely paralysed, only able to move my eyes. I wouldnt be able to speak, or move any other part of me. I'd have a great sense of fear, and It'd take a few minutes to come out and back to normal, then I could completely move and everything would be fine again, I'd just be abit shocked as to what just happened, I started to get this more and more, to the point where it was 6-10 times a night..so I cut out ALL caffine.
Avatar m tn This has started to happen to me one or few times in a month. I lay in my bed try to sleep all of a sudden I start seeing something usually some scary persons I try to move but I am unable to do it but after a little struggle I snap out of it, I try to go asleep again, then it always happens again... If it happens once at night it happenes again...

It may be lasting for a few seconds to minutes. It can repeat once again if you sleep and there is no physical injury to body, but you will be probably frightened with sweating and increased heart beat with shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn It happened to me once before pregnancy. I was having an awful dream and woke up unable to move. It's like your body's half way phase between sleep and waking states.
Avatar n tn I am a 20F, I am currently taking adderol 20mg when I need to study, and Xanax to help me with panic attack, as well as Suboxone. I have been suffering with hypnopompic Sleep Paralysis- I wake up, usually from a day-time nap, unable to move or talk. I always brushed it off as a dream until it lasted for about an hour, I fell on the floor and was found there. During this time of Paralysis i got overheated, excessive sweating, and couldnt stop biting my tongue.
Avatar n tn I was unable to sleep for awhile before this and only slept for two hours. Yesterday was also the three year anniversary of my mothers death who I was very close to so I am sure this was not a coincidence. Is this most likely an isolated incident by stress and the situation or should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.
Avatar n tn It appears that humans have always experienced sleep paralysis and sought to explain it, resulting in well known stories of incubi and succubi--demons thought to sexually attack people in their sleep--as well as related tales from other eras and cultures". http://csicop.
573569 tn?1278629655 There are other similar conditions that dont involve paralysis and are more experienced as a difficulty to become fully awake, where as sleep paralysis you are unable to move and think your awake, commonly waking up with high anxiety, which makes one feel alert. Sleep paralysis can also give feelings of impending doom. None the less you are not alone, both are fairly common.
Avatar f tn I believe my habitual abuse substance abuse has triggered my sleep paralysis. I also have sleep apnea depression anxiety paranoia. My don't shows any of this to friends or family. It's more when I'm alone. I've been diagnosed with depression and sleep apnea. I have been clean for quite some time but then to sleep paralysis came into play. And so I don't want to go to sleep. I haven't gotten any help.
1544075 tn?1296026498 Maybe do a little reading about sleep paralysis and then consider having a sleep study done. Honestly, when I got of the benzodiazepines, the worst of it stopped.
Avatar m tn i also have other weird things happen with my heart. sometimes when i start drifting into sleep ill experience sleep paralysis, where im still awake but my body is paralyzed. the paralysis isnt what scares me, its that whenever it happens my heart will start beating really fast until i break out of it.
Avatar n tn what makes sleep paralysis happen? what can i do to reduce the risk of suffering sleep paralysis? what medication is avalible for this disorder? how effective is it? how does it help? i would be very gratefull to hear off you.
Avatar f tn t exhausted and you might have them less. Also relax about it, and instead of trying to wake up try to go back to sleep. When I do that I find it easier to wake up. It's hard not to panic during it, but you are safe and it is okay.
Avatar n tn "A person may wake up and find himself unable to move or speak as if he is frozen. He also may hear footsteps, see a ghost-like creature, or feel someone sitting on his chest. Throughout the history, people considered this phenomenon as work done by evil spirits. However, the modern science can explain the terrifying event as a Sleep Paralysis." some readin on sleep paralysis: http://serendip.brynmawr.
Avatar m tn Q:Are they connected maybe? A:The answer literally is 'maybe'.....one of the problems with connecting isolated and completely different types of events months to years apart to being 'partial focal aware' seizure related activity, is the lack of similarity or repetition of what you've experienced with each event you've described is what makes epileptic seizures less likely than more.
Avatar f tn Not only can I not move but I felt like I was levitating a few inches off the mattress. I was trying so hard to speak, to get my husbands attention but nothing would come out. I couldn't move any part of my body, couldn't turn my head, couldn't speak. If I had to guess the length of time that it lasted, I'd say a minute maybe 2. Along with the inability to move or speak I could feel every follicle on my body stand at attention. WTF is going on with me?
Avatar f tn the strength of this command depends on how sure the body is that the mind are sleeping, this depends on how still you lie, if you lie very still the body is almost convinced that the mind is sleeping, and send out a very tiny signal which can easily be ignored by you and result in sleep paralysis with your mind awake, sleep paralysis feels almost like led on top of your body, and can easily be mistaken for someone pushing you against the bed. VERY SCAERY AND UNCOMFTABLE.!!!

Avatar n tn My inability to move, scream for help, open my eyes while asleep are becoming more frequent. I am really concerned because once I finally awaken, my heart rate is very high and I am starting to have panic attacks after awakening. I realize what is happening but can not "pull out" of my sleep. I am afraid to go to sleep at night now and my husband does not sleep well either because he is worried that I am going to have "sleep paralysis" and wants to be able to wake me up.
