Avatar m tn some nights I'd wake up, and be completely paralysed, only able to move my eyes. I wouldnt be able to speak, or move any other part of me. I'd have a great sense of fear, and It'd take a few minutes to come out and back to normal, then I could completely move and everything would be fine again, I'd just be abit shocked as to what just happened, I started to get this more and more, to the point where it was 6-10 times a night..so I cut out ALL caffine.

Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn t act out our dreams and hurt ourself or someone else. A person that suffers from sleep paralysis...their mind wakes up before their body does. They are completely mentally aware, but their body is frozen. It usually "unfreezes" in 30 seconds or less. BUT if you have ever experienced this, you know it feels SO MUCH LONGER than that! I get it from time to time, but now that I know what it is, I'm not scared.

Avatar f tn t wake up no matter how hard i tried and when I was about to wake up I would be dragged right back into the horrible dream I was having Is anyone else experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time while pregnant.
Avatar f tn m in need of medical assistance. However, when I have episodes of sleep paralysis or cataplexy (similar to sleep paralysis except the onset occurs during the day not when you're in bed, so you suddenly lose muscle tone and collapse), he pays no mind to it at all. From his perspective, I'm just taking a nap. I hope that helps in understanding this phenomenon better.
Avatar f tn Sleep paralysis is which occurs when you may go to sleep or may tend to wake up from sleep. It is a temporary phenomenon where in you are incapable of moving your body or even part of it physically but keep trying to shout loudly or seek someone’s help. It may be lasting for a few seconds to minutes. There may not be any physical injury to body but you will be probably frightened with sweating and increased heart beat, one may feel a shortness of breath or air hunger.
Avatar n tn Don't be scared. I haven't experienced what you have but I recently saw a sleep apnea specialist a few months ago and he asked if I had ever experienced what you are describing. Don't quote me exactly but he mentioned something about a chemical or hormone that is released when we go through certain cycles in our sleep. The chemical or hormone is produced to protect us whilst we are sleeping. It basically stops us from physically carrying out what we are dreaming.
Avatar n tn If so, this could be a parasomnia called sleep paralysis brought on by REM sleep. I have found that when doctors don't know what is happening, they blame it on stress, anxiety, or panic attacks especially in women. During REM sleep the body paralyzes itself so as you can't physically act out your dreams because this can be very harmful. When sleep paralysis occurs the brain is still paralyzing your body because there is a disconnect between REM sleep and being fully awake.
Avatar f tn The symptoms of seizure like activity while sleeping or while going to sleep can be due to restless leg syndrome, sleep epilepsy, sleep apnea, low vitamin B12, low blood sugar, low blood pressure or due to arrhythmias. Since it happens only once or twice a month, look back to check, if this could be due to low blood sugar (missing your dinner or other meals). You need a lot of investigations and a detailed examination by a sleep specialist.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if there is a chance the sleep paralysis could mean something else? Or should I just keep trying to adjust my lifestyle or increase my meds or see the dr again for another sleep study? Please help.
Avatar m tn Hi, suffered sleep paralysis for decades now. No voices etc, just paralysis. WHY doesn't the medical world take an interest in this phenomena, which is more common than I think is believed? It is left to the realm of cultural myths, alien abduction theories, generalized medical mumbling about anxiety - the definition of anything they do not understand or think will get them into trouble by not investigating.
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. Also, hypnagogic hallucinations are hallucinations that occur between sleeping and waking. These are the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy.
Avatar n tn what makes sleep paralysis happen? what can i do to reduce the risk of suffering sleep paralysis? what medication is avalible for this disorder? how effective is it? how does it help? i would be very gratefull to hear off you.
514704 tn?1228312637 I feel you might be probably suffering from a kind of sleep disturbance known to be sleep paralysis, which occurs when you go to sleep or tend to wake up. It is a temporary phenomenon where in you feel incapable of moving your body or part of it physically but keep trying to shout loudly or seek someone’s help. This may last for just a few seconds to minutes and can repeat once again if you sleep.
1196962 tn?1265111116 This condition is called sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis may leave you feeling frightened, especially if you also see or hear things that aren't really there. Sleep paralysis may happen only once, or you may have it frequently -- even several times a night.
Avatar m tn t warrant much discussion or follow up. The sleep medicine doctor who interpreted the report said it was a normal sleep study and did not indicate any diagnosis at all. My primary thinks I have insomnia or stress (I don't; the only stress I have is from having to nap all day) and wants me to simply try following some sleep hygiene steps (which I already follow religiously), or she said I could try having a follow up study to see if anything else shows up (which I can't afford).
