Avatar m tn had only sought help from religious people who told us again and again that it was some sort of a curse. We only learnt about the existence of Night Terror after watching a previous episode of Oprah. We have never visited a doctor so there is no study on her sleep patterns. But after watching her for all this time I know the screaming always happens between 12-1am. She sleeps mostly at 10p.m. Recently she started complaining that her left side-leg and arms-are slowly getting paralyzed.

I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
Avatar m tn Ive had that happen before, actually a lot, at first my cousin was in the bed with me when it happened she said it looked like I was having a seizure, it happened like 3 times in one night, when I went to the hospital they called it a night terror. Since its happened a few times, so my doctor ordered a sleep study which is very expensive, but you should check your medication to see if any side effect is to have siezures.
Avatar m tn "The constant staying only one field can be harmful" I could give you a very good debate on many topics. How about quantum physics? or how about the latest theory of universe projection? What I refuse to learn about are hobgoblins, trolls and fairies. Tell me, do you think people read your comments on OOBE and think "now thats a good idea" or "yeah whatever" ? Now who is the ranked one. REALITY is the key, we live in the real world here.
Avatar n tn Test her for STREP. The STREP test that the Doctor brings back into the office within a few minutes can be negative even if your child has it, so get the extensive test where they give you a TITER count (it's sent out to a lab.) When they call a few days later and if it come's back positive, get her on antibiotics ASAP. (I am not a doctor...
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms could be due to sleep paralysis. Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. Your symptoms of seeing things could also be due to sleep disorders “Nightmare” or "Night terror" disorders . Here the person experiences symptoms of bad, frightening dreams which interfere with his sleep schedules.
436338 tn?1204359355 Considering you are remembering the events upon waking, you are most likely coming out of REM sleep. If you're unable to move and aware of it, it is likely an episode of SP. Sleep paralysis usuallly produces very vivid scenes that can be very life like. With me I get it in all kinds of stages. It seems to manifest itself into very lucid dreaming.
2143567 tn?1342539031 Hey Dr. Anitha. After looking up "night terror" disorder, I came across something on Sleep paralysis found on this website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis and it sounds an awful lot like what I have. In addition, the paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[9] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.
Avatar f tn When that happens people will not remember their terror when they wake up but whenever they wake up their heart ratewill be high sky. Also whenever someone is having a terror they can be crying in their sleep, swinging punches and many other just to try to defend themselves. But once again a person will not remember what he or she dream about that terrorize them in their sleep.
Avatar m tn During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.

Avatar f tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
Avatar m tn Then at 35 I found Imovane and became quickly a fan - I slept well but after getting to the point of using it constantly for a number of years it also stopped helping me sleep through the night.
Avatar f tn In particular, anyone with too high pillow during sleep is bound to experience recurring sleep paralysis all night. This terrible reduced blood supply to the brain is more likely to occur during waking up during the day than during sleep at night. For example, almost everyone suddenly stands up when their blood pressure is low in summer, and has experienced the terrible symptoms of the reduced blood supply to the brain caused by orthostatic hypotension.

Avatar f tn i have only been to church maybe a total of 5 times my entire life..my family is not religious..but I do believe in God...I had an episode of "sleep paralysis" the other night where i had envisioned a demon in my room and was completely horrified..apparently this is a common thing to see if you experience SP for some reason..but I am wondering if maybe it is a sign..maybe I need to have a deeper relationship with God..or maybe it really was just a random side effect of SP?
Avatar f tn Hi imkindacrazy, how are you? Hope you are doing well? I do understand how difficult it is to cope up with the sleep deprevation and daily activities especially with such long history. Do you remember the event which had triggered the terrors episodes and had you initially got evaluated for it? Usually a horrifying incedent when withnessed and keeping on recollecting does affect, and increasing stress worsens it.
Avatar n tn Do you know why you get sleep paralysis? Such as stress, random sleep eppisodes, naps during the day, etc etc. Also, do you get pain in the neck? Like a stricking pain going up your neck, it's a fast but very uncomfortable experience.
Avatar f tn I wonder whether you ever considered using a sleep laboratory to analyze your episodes of night terror? I have had a sleep problem for a long time, and I wanted evidence of my poor sleeping habits, so my doctor refrerred me to a sleeping lab at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. I spent two nights at the sleep lab without any outstanding results. The sleep lab at Baylor is staffed with phychologists and the lab is within the Department of Psychiatry.
Avatar f tn Sometimes when im falling asleep(not yet fully asleep,in and out of it,semi conscious) and already dreaming, ill see something that causes a great feeling of fear in me, ill then begin to fight falling asleep as i get this feeling of dread because i know what is about to happen which is like something completely gripping or overcoming me(like a prescence), a great feeling of fear or terror, complete immobility or paralysis and a violent shaking experience in my brain.
