Avatar f tn I get sleep paralysis every so often I'm really scared that this will affect my baby in some way. I'm 18 weeks, anybody else gets sleep paralysis?
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1196962 tn?1265111116 I am 20 years old and about six months ago I began to experience what many call "sleep paralysis." Sometimes I will have one episode, others numerous times a night, however this does not happen every night. It occurs every couple of monthes. Also I get it as I am falling asleep and as I am awakeing. I feel as if I can't move, and as if my organs are shutting down. I try to scream for help or move to snap out of it but it does not work instantly.

Avatar f tn Since becoming pregnant I have been having really bad night terrors and sleep paralysis along with it. I have always had nightmares since I was little but.none like these. Lately they have become so intense that my husband wakes up and has to wake me up because I am screaming in my sleep. Is there anything I can do to stop them? Has it happened to any of yu?
Avatar m tn The associated symptoms with the following disorder are confusional wakefulness, sleep paralysis, nightmares and night terrors. This can occur in any sleep stage (REM and non-REM stage). To rule out parasomnias you need to undergo Polysomnyography and sleep analysis. You need to take out time for further evaluation. Sleep with light on. Short term benzodiazepine against prescription will help you. I suggest you to consult physician or sleep specialist. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
568812 tn?1379165794 It terrifies me every time and when it happens im afraid to sleep for a few days incase it happens again. When ive had it in the past i dream of something horrific and i force myself awake or just wake up but still sleepy so as soon as i close my eyes im back in the dream and then it becomes lucid because im then aware im dreaming. But the last major nightmare/attack i had i actually hallucinated when i woke. i saw a goblin of some sorts on my bed when i opened my eyes.
Avatar n tn Do you know why you get sleep paralysis? Such as stress, random sleep eppisodes, naps during the day, etc etc. Also, do you get pain in the neck? Like a stricking pain going up your neck, it's a fast but very uncomfortable experience.
12594947 tn?1426138835 I have early awakenings and very vivid dreaming almost every night. I also have had sleep paralysis but it has been a long time since my last episode. I had it often as a child though. Alcohol is used by many people for sleep. I don't agree with it but sometimes it is what they choose even if they are delusional about what it is doing to them. From my understanding it takes away from REM sleep. I drink on occasion but never for sleep. It makes me never feel as rested up the next day.
Avatar f tn Almost every night their entire body becomes paralyzed and stays that way most of the night. I think it has to do with low potassium levels. I think the symptoms vary for everyone and also depends on how low the levels are. From what I was told, my uncle could only absorb very little, if any potassium. I hope this helps! Good luck with everything. Keep us posted!!
Avatar n tn Last night I had a terrible dream I wouldn't wish on anyone. I was laying on my bed sleeping comfortable and next thing you know I opened my eyes because I felt someone was starring at me. As I opened my eyes I saw a shadow on top of me and I literally started screaming and moving my hands brcause i yhogut that dark shadow was going to hurt my baby.
Avatar f tn I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time last night. It was absolutely terrifying. I couldn't wake up no matter how hard i tried and when I was about to wake up I would be dragged right back into the horrible dream I was having Is anyone else experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I take that back; I think I had an auditory hallucination last night. The same one twice. I didn't check to see if I could move or not until a few seconds later, though.
9310208 tn?1410859285 I drink milk every night before bed to help with acid reflux and heart burn :) works like a charm.
Avatar n tn Last night I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time and it was terrifying. I felt like I was being tortured and heard noises but I could not talk or even muffle any sounds. I was unable to sleep for awhile before this and only slept for two hours. Yesterday was also the three year anniversary of my mothers death who I was very close to so I am sure this was not a coincidence. Is this most likely an isolated incident by stress and the situation or should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn Hi, suffered sleep paralysis for decades now. No voices etc, just paralysis. WHY doesn't the medical world take an interest in this phenomena, which is more common than I think is believed? It is left to the realm of cultural myths, alien abduction theories, generalized medical mumbling about anxiety - the definition of anything they do not understand or think will get them into trouble by not investigating.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.
Avatar f tn SO The past nights , my baby boy won't let me sleep. Every time I turn over he wanna kick me and when I wanna lay on my back he bald up and move around.

Avatar f tn Hey thanks for posting back! Yes, the paralysis ***** and is pretty damn scary haha. Happened again this morning as I was dozing on the couch. Sometimes it even felt as though my tongue was blocking my airway but I really don't know. Mostly I get it when I am tired or stressed out, like you said. It doesn't happen often enough anymore to make it worth getting medication for, maybe once every few days?
2038180 tn?1329861306 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility.
Avatar f tn My issues have waxed and waned over the years although I am happy to report no more sleep paralysis.. Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.
