Avatar m tn What else is going on in your life? Are you consuming any thing that can damage your body or mind? Live a healthy life style. As to are you awake? Since you remember the eye open problem, if not awake you are having a vivid dream. Do you think you can remember to try something next time that happens? I mean remember when you are in the can't open eye state. Can you see anything, i.e.
Avatar f tn Sometimes when I have dreams I wake up. When I'm awake my eyes won't open. I can't move. It feels like I'm paralyzed. I try calling my mom to wake me up, but the voice is in my head. It feels like I'm awake in my head justmy body isn't. Sometimes this happens when I'm sleep face down and can't breathe.
Avatar f tn Lately i have been having some very very extreme episodes of sleep paralysis. It started a little over two weeks ago and its getting worse. I will lay in bed and fall into this really relaxed position (I have a sleeping disorder, so its hard to be relaxed in bed) and I have been having theses dreams that im laying in my bed kicking and screaming at the top of my lungs because im trying to move but i just can't. i fight to open my eyes and i scream hoping that something will come out.
Avatar n tn Yeah, that's right in there with sleeping with your eyes open. Sort of like being a fish in a bowl looking out at what's going on around you. I always thought it was kind of cool but I can understand why it might be scary. The important thing is to know that you are not at risk -that nothing is physically wrong with you. Take care.
Avatar f tn Sometimes when I sleep I stop breathing to the point were I start making a "dolphin" noise (that's what my boyfriend calls it). He says it's like I'm suffocating. My brain wakes up because I hear the noise I'm making but I can't move. I hear everything going on around me like my boyfriend telling me to breath. But I can't move. I only can "wake up" when he physically moves me. I read about sleep paralysis but they don't mention making noise.
Avatar f tn My issues have waxed and waned over the years although I am happy to report no more sleep paralysis.. Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.
Avatar f tn I have sleep disorders. In the top 3 of symptoms "sleep paralysis" is one of them and you can experience it awake. You say you were not asleep but it can happen upon awakening or before falling asleep. I think this section gives some good examples of clues you may have sleep paralysis and/or some type of sleep disorder whether it's caused by Chiari or not: * Onset immediately upon awakening or just prior to falling asleep.
Avatar f tn I actually get sleep paralysis as well... It won't harm your baby at all.
Avatar n tn This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. You will need to consult your primary care physician, who may schedule you for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out sleep disorders and initiate appropriate therapy. Best regards.
Avatar m tn Thanks a ton..!! Just did a quick search on Sleep Paralysis.. My case is exactly the same. It IS Sleep Paralysis, I'm sure now. I have irregular sleeping habits, loads of stress, I sleep upright.. And the symptoms are just so very accurate. I wonder how I missed this so far. I was thinking its some kind of a heart disease or brain problem or something..
1196962 tn?1265111116 This condition is called sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis may leave you feeling frightened, especially if you also see or hear things that aren't really there. Sleep paralysis may happen only once, or you may have it frequently -- even several times a night.
Avatar f tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
573569 tn?1278629655 There are other similar conditions that dont involve paralysis and are more experienced as a difficulty to become fully awake, where as sleep paralysis you are unable to move and think your awake, commonly waking up with high anxiety, which makes one feel alert. Sleep paralysis can also give feelings of impending doom. None the less you are not alone, both are fairly common.
Avatar m tn I get this if I sleep in day I get a buzzing sensation over my eyes then I am trying towake up but can't move I try to shout help but my words don't come out it awful and very scarey
Avatar f tn Whenever I hear about sleep paralysis I often hear similar symptoms such as not being able to move your body or speak, and being awake from your sleep with your eyes open. People with this condition would also feel or see an "evil" presence around them. However in my case, my eyes are shut, I'm able to make noise from my mouth, I don't feel any danger around me, but my body feels rigid while I know I'm conscious. There's always a strange feeling whenever this occurs.
568812 tn?1379165794 All I knew is that it seemed so real and I would keep the lights on. I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
Avatar n tn Sometimes when I'm trying to wake up - I have the frightenng experience of being awake but not able to move. I can't open my eyes - can't move - and in desparation I try to make noise (which comes out like a faint groan) in order for my husband to hear me and shake me awake. Can Vitamin b12 help prevent this experience.
2038180 tn?1329861306 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility.
510038 tn?1489983029 I have a friend who has sleep paralysis episodes and she says my experience sounds like sleep paralysis. After what felt like forever I snapped out of it and was able to breathe and I just went back to sleep. But I also am curious if anything like this could be related to Chiari - perhaps it was not sleep paralysis? I just know I was very confused and terrified and I hope it never happens again.
1799920 tn?1315808288 The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
1544075 tn?1296026498 With sleep paralysis, part of your brain can still be asleep and so you can still be partially dreaming. For me, I can see the room and often dream that I can see someone or hear someone there or that someone is trying to break into the house. At the same time this "dream" is occurring, I can (for example) hear the shower going, my partner moving around the room, etc., but I am unable to move or fully wake myself up.
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone. I'm coming here to ask about something that's been happening to me every so often for the past year. I chose this random morning to post, because I've reached the point at which I can no longer go on without knowing how to solve my problem, or even knowing what it really is. I'm afraid to go to sleep, because that's when my "episodes" occur. Just this morning I woke up at 6:30 AM to have one of the worst ones yet, and now here I sit.. Typing.
Avatar m tn This is a sleep disorder caused by hypotension. If you are not a patient with hypotension, your sleep paralysis can only be caused by improper sleeping posture or neck flexion caused by too high pillow.Dizzy is a typical symptom of hypotension. A person may have the exact same physiological response to a stimulus, yet experience an entirely different emotion.
Avatar n tn No I can't move anything when I go into paralysis my eyes close and I can't open them, they also water while I am having my spell so everyone thinks I am crying. No my potassium levels aren't low. I have looked into cataplexy but the doctor says no. Sometimes my eyes are hazy but it is not when I am having a spell it just happens sometimes.
Avatar f tn the strength of this command depends on how sure the body is that the mind are sleeping, this depends on how still you lie, if you lie very still the body is almost convinced that the mind is sleeping, and send out a very tiny signal which can easily be ignored by you and result in sleep paralysis with your mind awake, sleep paralysis feels almost like led on top of your body, and can easily be mistaken for someone pushing you against the bed. VERY SCAERY AND UNCOMFTABLE.!!!
Avatar f tn Sounds like you have Sleep Paralysis, I have Sleep Paralysis and the same thing happens to me. Good news is it's not deadly, You will always wake up from it. You can talk to your doctor about it too.
503651 tn?1223174601 I get them from time to time. Usually without the visual hallucinations, but sometimes I get auditory ones with it. It used to terrify the heck out of me until I learned what it is and what causes it. (the scientific cause, not the paranormal sites...) Somehow that has taken a lot of the fear from it. I still may get frightening scenes, but so far I've managed to be lucid enough to just disregard the site... A couple years ago I saw a zombie arm..
