Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. You will need to consult your primary care physician for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time last night. It was absolutely terrifying. I couldn't wake up no matter how hard i tried and when I was about to wake up I would be dragged right back into the horrible dream I was having Is anyone else experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time while pregnant.
510038 tn?1489983029 I have a friend who has sleep paralysis episodes and she says my experience sounds like sleep paralysis. After what felt like forever I snapped out of it and was able to breathe and I just went back to sleep. But I also am curious if anything like this could be related to Chiari - perhaps it was not sleep paralysis? I just know I was very confused and terrified and I hope it never happens again.

Avatar f tn As he got older this turned into sleep paralysis and seeing horrble things like the devil. I have had him in 2 sleep studies and he does have two unusual sleep disorders. When he is stressed out it gets worse. When things are going good he doesn't have it at all. It was explainted me to me regarding the sleep walking that he lacks the switch in the brain that puts us all in a form of sleep paralaysis so we cannot act out our dreams whie we are sleep.
Avatar m tn It sounds like it could be sleep paralysis to me. I do that all the time. I thought it was "night terrors." I'm fully aware of everything around me, can hear and everything but can't scream out, can't move, nothing. I learned it was common with narcolepsy. You need to go see your primary care doctor and/or get a referral to a sleep specialist.
Avatar f tn I feel like when I lay down I can't breathe or catch my breath all the way. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn If so, this could be a parasomnia called sleep paralysis brought on by REM sleep. I have found that when doctors don't know what is happening, they blame it on stress, anxiety, or panic attacks especially in women. During REM sleep the body paralyzes itself so as you can't physically act out your dreams because this can be very harmful. When sleep paralysis occurs the brain is still paralyzing your body because there is a disconnect between REM sleep and being fully awake.
Avatar f tn I'm 35+4 and I can't find a position to fall asleep in where I don't feel like something is sitting on my chest. I can only take slow deep breaths. All of a sudden my belly feels extra hard and extra tight like its at its breaking point, and I was just fine 2hours ago. I'm extremely tired but I can't breathe like I normally do.
Avatar f tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.

Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/sleep-paralysis describes more. I am not a doctor, but it sounds like you and your family are under a lot of stress right now, which may or may not be linked to what you are feeling. All I can say is, this has been going on for a long time for you now, try using the trackers here to chart your sleep and mood and pain, and then take them to a doctor.
Avatar f tn Is it unilateral paralysis? Besides imaging studies, nerve conduction studies may help to diagnose the paralysis. Most patients with unilateral diaphragmatic paralysis are asymptomatic and do not require treatment. So, if he is asymptomatic he may not need any therapy now. And many times paralysis resolves on its own, albeit slowly over a period of months to more than a year. If he develops symptoms of dyspnea on exertion, he may then need surgical management. Regards.
Avatar f tn So I'm 24 weeks today. I can't breathe because the baby is getting bigger. I can't sleep on my back and Iststruggle when I move from side to side. Is the breathing part normal?
Avatar f tn I actually get sleep paralysis as well... It won't harm your baby at all.
488264 tn?1226520307 I'm not a medical professional but I've had the exact same symptoms for nearly 20 years. I don't hallucinate either. It is a terrifying experience to be paralyzed and to not be able to breathe. I had a sleep study done nearly a year ago and was diagnosed with central and obstructive sleep apnea. Since I started on my CPAP I haven't had one incidence of sleep paralysis. I don't know if apnea and sleep paralysis is linked. But I do know that I am much better.
Avatar f tn the strength of this command depends on how sure the body is that the mind are sleeping, this depends on how still you lie, if you lie very still the body is almost convinced that the mind is sleeping, and send out a very tiny signal which can easily be ignored by you and result in sleep paralysis with your mind awake, sleep paralysis feels almost like led on top of your body, and can easily be mistaken for someone pushing you against the bed. VERY SCAERY AND UNCOMFTABLE.!!!
Avatar f tn I think it's sleep paralysis. I have had it since teenage and have a very very bad case. I'm 54 and I still have it. It happens when I am mentally tired or just out of the blue. It's very scary. I only feel like I can't breathe if I am lying face down and of course I cannot move my head.
Avatar f tn I am so tired of not being able to sleep, I will be so tired and lay down but can't ever fall asleep. I can't get comfortable, if I lay on my right side I can't breathe. It takes hours to try and fall asleep, up and down to use the bathroom, in pain if I lay this way, can't breathe if I lay that way. I don't know what to do I'm so exhausted! Please help I'm just about 38 weeks.
Avatar m tn I've had this problem for a few months now, I don't know wether It's anxiety related because I am finding it hard to get proper medical help. I can't Inhale fully, (get a satisfying breathe) It's like everytime I try to inhale I am having to use all my strenght to try and get a good, proper breathe. Because I am trying so hard to just BREATHE I am really hurting myself, around my heart area it feels like I am pulling a muscle.
Avatar f tn I am 32+5 and so annoyed right now. I have been working all day and im exhausted yet I can't sleep to save my life. Im so uncomfortable!!! I can't breathe and no matter which way I lay I just can't get comfortable. Im so tired of this I just want to cry. Who else is up and feel my pain?
568812 tn?1379165794 All I knew is that it seemed so real and I would keep the lights on. I had the sleep paralysis also where I was trying to move but could not and trying to say, "Help" but the words would not come out. It was frightening. I would often recite the Lord's prayer. My daughter though has also had the paralysis in her sleep, so not sure if it is PSTD associated alone as she did not have the abusive childhood I did.
