Common Questions and Answers about Sleep paralysis and seizures

sleep-paralysis

Avatar n tn Keep this in mind while you are panicking. There are such things as sleep seizures, and this may explain the ringing in your ears etc. In your case it is definitely worth raising this with whoever is controlling your epilepsy. For some reason sleep paralysis is not taken seriously, unless it is associated with daytime uncontrolled sleepiness (narcolepsy). I think it should be researched more, as this is such a powerfully negative experience for so many people.
Avatar f tn ve all had those times where we are almost asleep but fully aware and snap ourselfs (and sometimes our significant others lol) awake. Ringing in ears is a common thing, before I have my seizures it feels like I have a "wooshy" feeLing in my ears, almost like loyd bass from as car. Have you had any aura changes, or any severe/chronic deja vu, these are often in relation to seizures, bit can also just be a common occurrence!
Avatar m tn Q:Are they connected maybe? A:The answer literally is 'maybe'.....one of the problems with connecting isolated and completely different types of events months to years apart to being 'partial focal aware' seizure related activity, is the lack of similarity or repetition of what you've experienced with each event you've described is what makes epileptic seizures less likely than more.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone. I'm coming here to ask about something that's been happening to me every so often for the past year. I chose this random morning to post, because I've reached the point at which I can no longer go on without knowing how to solve my problem, or even knowing what it really is. I'm afraid to go to sleep, because that's when my "episodes" occur. Just this morning I woke up at 6:30 AM to have one of the worst ones yet, and now here I sit.. Typing.
Avatar f tn some people do this while sleeping it is an involuntary movement of the body do not be concerned about it and i have not heard a solution to this kind of problem because he dosnt control his body during rem state because rem state is a temporary paralysis of the body during sleep and sometimes people who have paralysed limbs often spasm so do not worry. and he would not recall any of this because your brain is also switched off during sleep.
Avatar f tn Discussion of your symptoms with your primary doctor/family physician is recommended, with evaluation by a sleep medicine specialist and a sleep study (polysomnogram) as indicated. This study could detect seizures, sleep apnea, and other forms of sleep disorders. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
Avatar f tn I had an rta 16 years ago, my head went through the sunroof and was dragged along the carriageway. I am 35 now and remember about 5% of my life. I suffer from sleep paralysis and night sweats which have been getting worse over the last 5 years. My doctor (after trying hypno) prescribed amitriptilyne (10mg a day). This worked for the first two months but is now wearing off.
Avatar f tn I'm female, 15 years old, relativly healthy, so is the rest of my family. Average weight, average height and so on. (just in case that helps) I recently found out that these ..symptoms I've been having in my sleep is an actual sleeping disorder called sleep paralysis. I did reserch it and I found that most people expirience negative "dreams" during that time that sleep paralysis occured.
Avatar n tn The actual cause of sleep paralysis is not understood. But sleep paralysis can run in families and people who have narcolepsy. Sleep paralysis can be treated with clonazepam, Studies show that vitamin B12 improves sleep patterns but not enough evidence show prevention of sleep paralysis. Reducing stress and getting the proper amount of sleep may be beneficial. Learn to recognize your symptoms and the triggers of your sleep paralysis.
611964 tn?1223767720 Can Chronic Lyme's disease cause seizures? I have so many symptoms that everyone has talked about, and waiting on the western blot to come back, and I have had Lyme's twice. Had a , or so they think, a seizure. Anyone heard of this symptom?
Avatar m tn He currently was diagnosed with absence seizures and is on medication. We are going tomorrow to have a sleep deprieved eeg. Were you able to find out if anger was a trigger? I only ask because I think that is something that I am noticing with my son.
Avatar m tn During sleep a phase comes called as Rapid Eye Movement or REM sleep. During this phase the sleep is deepest. During this sleep the muscles go in a paralysis like state and the person sleeping appears to be ‘dead to the world’. If there is a disorder off this phase of sleep, then muscle paralysis like state does not happen and the person ends up flailing, grabbing, jumping, falling out of bed, kicking, talking trashing etc.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.
Avatar f tn Sometimes when im falling asleep(not yet fully asleep,in and out of it,semi conscious) and already dreaming, ill see something that causes a great feeling of fear in me, ill then begin to fight falling asleep as i get this feeling of dread because i know what is about to happen which is like something completely gripping or overcoming me(like a prescence), a great feeling of fear or terror, complete immobility or paralysis and a violent shaking experience in my brain.
Avatar f tn then it will go away and i feel exhausted, dizzy and just icky all around. I thought at first this could be sleep paralysis, but im not seeing creepy things or anything like that, just my bedroom. Could this be seizures??
Avatar f tn Again this is normal and of course anxiety and stress will boost the frequencies of both falling sensation and sleep paralysis. Don't worry about it, it's not seizures nor any other disease. Don't let livia1881 scares you with myoclonus and seizures. One thing you can do tho if you insist is taking a CT scan it should show if there's anything wrong that may be causing seizures or if you are prone to seizures and even if you have had seizures.
Avatar n tn Recently, she has lost vision in her right eye during the headache and is now having seizure-like symptoms. She has experienced 1 - 2 seizures daily for 1 week. She has had a headache for approx 2 weeks. She feels the "seizure" coming on because it is preceded by a unusual taste in her mouth, unusual mental & stomach feelings. Her MD is not sure she is having seizures & ordered an MRI & EEG, which we are waiting on results from.
441761 tn?1204826268 I have a history of sleep paralysis and hypnogogic hallucinations. I have tremors in my left arm and notice the muscles in my arm temporarily weaken when startled. Last year and a half I have been experiencing seizure-like episodes. I am seeing a neurologist and have ruled out Epilepsy through CAT, EEG, EKG, MRI (cranial, cervical, lumbar), Echo Cardiogram, Spinal Tap. All tests returned normal. He has been stumped for 6 months.

Avatar n tn Hi, I sincerely feel that the symptoms which you’ve described are suggestive of partial seizures and levetiracetam(torleva) is the right drug for the same but I feel that you may not be getting adequate dosage of the same and hence there’s incomplete cure of the symptoms. I think you should discuss with your neurologist regarding increasing the dosage of Torleva which may result in an improvement of your symptoms.
Avatar n tn What that is trough out time the body and mind give out due to bad sleep hygiene plus stress buildup. What i suggest you do is create a sleep diary and take notes on day to day basis and try to isolate when the problem occurs. And another good method would be video tape yourself to see how you are when you are asleep.
Avatar f tn So weird, my sleep paralysis stopped since I got pregnant. I'll give you my tip of advice. Once you have it in your mind that sleep paralysis is NOT a bad thing only then will you be able to deal with it. The more you fight it, the scarier it is and the harder it is to get away from. So when you feel it happening, instead of trying so hard to get up just realize that its only sleep paralysis and relax, stop fighting it. When I do that I feel so much better.
