sleep-paralysis

Avatar m tn Hi, suffered sleep paralysis for decades now. No voices etc, just paralysis. WHY doesn't the medical world take an interest in this phenomena, which is more common than I think is believed? It is left to the realm of cultural myths, alien abduction theories, generalized medical mumbling about anxiety - the definition of anything they do not understand or think will get them into trouble by not investigating.
Avatar f tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
Avatar f tn Alien abduction implant. There is no question in my mind. This implant relays information back to interdimensional beings after abduction. Although it may subside periodically, it is permanent.
Avatar n tn use of EOG traces shows that eye movement is still possible during such episodes. When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP). The paralysis may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.
488264 tn?1226520307 I'm not a medical professional but I've had the exact same symptoms for nearly 20 years. I don't hallucinate either. It is a terrifying experience to be paralyzed and to not be able to breathe. I had a sleep study done nearly a year ago and was diagnosed with central and obstructive sleep apnea. Since I started on my CPAP I haven't had one incidence of sleep paralysis. I don't know if apnea and sleep paralysis is linked. But I do know that I am much better.
Avatar f tn When I was about three or four (17 now, going on 18), I watched a Golden Book Video and for the next two to three months I'm positive I had visual and auditory hallucinations of what I saw in the video. I'm just thinking about this now because I was talking about me as a kid with my parents. Lol, I was a funny kid.
Avatar m tn Patients with unilateral diaphragm paralysis underwent an evaluation that included a chest radiograph, fluoroscopic sniff test, pulmonary spirometry, and the Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnea score. Patients with symptomatic unilateral diaphragm paralysis present for at least 6 months were offered video-assisted thoracoscopic diaphragm plication.
86075 tn?1238115091 Paralyzed California man bit by brown recluse spider walks again. Only it was reported for real last week on CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS. Yes, a miracle - a miracle this could make the evening news, for this was a phenomenally poorly reported story bereft of the simplest of fact-checking. Of the three basic facts reported by these apparently professional journalists - paralyzed man, brown recluse spider, and walking - two are surely false.
Avatar m tn I just watched a youtube video of this - quite fascinating and many there commented on the link between this phenomenon and damage to the corpus callosum. Their reference point was this is caused by damage done by stroke but I can imagine MS damage could also do the same if it hits the right spot. thanks for bringing this to our attention.
2143641 tn?1396678143 ), etc. eventually I had come up with something that did make sense like GBS. ps two days ago they had a press conference in the Senate about some West Nile epidemic in Italy which is brought by mosquitoes, I thought it was strange such interest for a couple of dead horses.
Avatar f tn I have not experienced it but I understand that the human body goes into a paralysis when the mind goes to sleep. This protects us from the body reacting to something happening in a dream. I further understand some of us can wake up while still inn the paralyzed state. This should pass quickly to the fully conscious sate and control of our body. If you are having problems with nightmares the approach I used at an age younger than you are now is I trained myself to wake up.
Avatar f tn well really it doesn't sound like a panic attack to me. i have had many panic attacks ruin my nights sleep. for 2 straight weeks i slept on the couch because of them...which doesn't sound drastic for some people but i slept there because i was in constant fear, etc. and i really didn't get much sleep. anyway, what you describe sounds like something else that happens during REM sleep called sleep paralysis. some even suggest this is the cause of 'alien abduction' cases.
Avatar f tn sounds to me like sleep paralysis. you can find a lot of info about this on the net. i was shocked i thought i was the only one. it very well may be genetic from what i have read. my father also has it. i rarely get it anymore but it was common when i was a little kid. i would feel paralyzed and couldnt talk or yell. it also felt like i could not breathe. it would seem like i would wake up in the same room but it would be slightly different and i would see many hallucinations.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, there is no practical way to decipher between normal REM sleep and sleep paralysis. This is because in normal REM sleep you experience the same paralysis as in sleep paralysis; the only difference is your level of consciousness at the time. So there's no way to develop a sensor that an app could use to address this issue. This also may be of interest to you: I have a service dog whose primary task is medical alert.

1035252 tn?1427227833 45 a.m., Perez was outside talking with his cousin about the abduction when they saw a vehicle matching that description: an older-model, reddish-brown Chevrolet with a white stripe on the side. "I thought, that could be the truck," Perez, a father of two boys, told CNN Tuesday night. That's when he sprang into action. He jumped into his 1988 white Ford pickup and followed the vehicle. Perez tried to cut off the vehicle several times to question the driver.
Avatar n tn what makes sleep paralysis happen? what can i do to reduce the risk of suffering sleep paralysis? what medication is avalible for this disorder? how effective is it? how does it help? i would be very gratefull to hear off you.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar n tn I am a 20F, I am currently taking adderol 20mg when I need to study, and Xanax to help me with panic attack, as well as Suboxone. I have been suffering with hypnopompic Sleep Paralysis- I wake up, usually from a day-time nap, unable to move or talk. I always brushed it off as a dream until it lasted for about an hour, I fell on the floor and was found there. During this time of Paralysis i got overheated, excessive sweating, and couldnt stop biting my tongue.
Avatar f tn I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time last night. It was absolutely terrifying. I couldn't wake up no matter how hard i tried and when I was about to wake up I would be dragged right back into the horrible dream I was having Is anyone else experiencing sleep paralysis for the first time while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I actually get sleep paralysis as well... It won't harm your baby at all.
Avatar n tn Do you know why you get sleep paralysis? Such as stress, random sleep eppisodes, naps during the day, etc etc. Also, do you get pain in the neck? Like a stricking pain going up your neck, it's a fast but very uncomfortable experience.
