Avatar m tn In each experiment, PERL treatment was more effective than lovastatin and therefore may be better suited for in vivo antiviral therapy. Furthermore, the potential use of PERLs for in vivo treatment of viral infections, as well as the frequent coinfections with the viruses tested here, eventually should include the encapsulation of other antiviral therapies, leading to enhanced treatment efficacy.
Avatar f tn I have a blue lump on my left arm in my elbow region, It's been hurting and growing so I went in to get an MRI done, here are the results: "In the T2 weighted sequences, in the region of the medial epitrochlear region, there is a mildly lobular lesion measuring approximately 24 x 7 mm. This lies in the subcutaneous tissue, and may enhance slightly in a peripheral fashion. This is not associated with enlargement of the vascular structures, and is not consistent with AVM.
1227139 tn?1462334630 Just wanted to let everyone know that March 21st every year (03-21) is World Down syndrome Awareness Day. This date was chosen specifically for Trisomy 21 because the Down syndrome genetic make up is a result of 3 copies of the 21st chromosome (instead of the usual pair). How will you be "celebrating" this years date? I am hoping that my new publication analogy "Welcome to Our House - An Analogy" will be a hit all over the world.
1240706 tn?1331602111 I have not personally had experience with disabling conditions or special needs in my family. A friend of mine is a teacher who works with children with special needs. She had a picture on her facebook this week of one of her students (with Down's Syndrome) affectionately sitting with his arm around another student. Her caption was "Here's two of my special kids showing affection... if these two kids can show this kind of love and affection why can't we all get along?
Avatar m tn Not to mention that if you stop breathing for too long, you can die in your sleep. If you suspect you or someone you know may have it, you should definitely get it checked out.
968908 tn?1274871115 It's more likely that you've always had a sleep-breathing problem that causes you to wake up frequently during the night, but 6 months ago, it's gotten much more severe. If you're body thinks it's under attack and you artificially suppress your body's natural response with medications, then eventually, you'll feel the effects. Sleep-breathing problems can also cause your involuntary nervous system to become hypersensitive. Take a look at my article ( http://www.

Avatar m tn Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Certain sleep disorders and peripheral nerve disorders due to diabetes or hypothyroidism can also be the cause.

Avatar m tn This on the other hand was earlier today after a long sleep, I woke up for a bit and turned around in bed, all of a sudden i lose muscle control in all of my body. this also only lasts a short time, maybe 10 seconds or so. The difference in this episode is the fact that I had absolutely no hallucinations and the likes which i have always had before with sleep paralysis. It started with my jaw dropping slightly then I noticed i could not move at all.
Avatar n tn It is usually diagnosed by sleep onset REM sleep (SOREMs), which is dream sleep in multiple episodes of MSLT (multiple sleep latency tests). However, therapy helps to regulate Narcolepsy. She will need to consult her primary care physician, who may schedule her for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out this sleep disorder and initiate appropriate therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn EEG can identify the sleep cycle which is a repetition of 4 to 6 cycles of NREM non rapid eye movement and REM rapid eye movement sleep starting with NREM sleep. With lack of sleep there is reduction In the time spent in the deepest stages of NREM( stages 3 and 4). Any loss in this activity is replaced by stage 2 NREM sleep. The EEG can read these phases of sleep and can give clue to a sleep deficit. I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me for any clarifications.
Avatar f tn My sleep is not consistent each night but in general if I can hit 52 hrs a week then I function well.
Avatar m tn The symptoms you are experiencing could be due to an entity called sleep paralysis. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar m tn Then you also need to investigate other causes of brain fog like liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this. Hypothyroidism, Low Vit D or Vit B12 too could be the cause. In men this could also be related to low testosterone.
