Avatar f tn Both ADD and ADHD are very complex conditions; an individual with either of the disorders may have very different symptoms than another person who has the same disorder. Although not all health care professionals distinguish between types of ADD and ADHD in the same way, most use the following types: Predominantly Inattentive Type Predominantly Hyperactive/Impulsive Type Combined Type Sometimes a combination of therapy and medication is indicated.

Avatar m tn I would get him an appointment with a neuropsycologist who diagnosis autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and other similar disorders. Make sure that you or another adult very familiar with his actions/symptoms goes in with him to see the doctor. They can retest him and possibly test for other things as well. You might also have him undergo a sleep study. In many kids who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, having their tonsils and adenoids removed can greatly reduce the symptoms.
Avatar f tn The moods of children who have ADHD or bipolar disorder may change quickly, but children with ADHD do not generally show dysphoria (depression) as a predominant symptom. Irritability is particularly prominent in children who are bipolar, especially in the morning on arousal.

Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. In the initial phases of the sleep cycle and while awakening, we tend to be more conscious or alert. If we study the brain waves at these phases they tend to show the alert wave pattern, this could cause the awareness. If it is not interfering with your sleep schedules you don't have to worry. If it persists or is troublesome consult your doctor for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy. Medical (sedatives) are given in the temporary initial phase, this is combined with non medical measures like sleep hygiene, relaxation therapy, stimulus control, and sleep restriction which are referred to as cognitive behavioral therapies. As the non medical measures help to restore your sleep rhythm, the sedatives are withdrawn.
Avatar m tn If there is persisting pain, it can cause problems with sleep. If there is no pain, then you should not keep thinking about sleeplessness, as this in turn promotes insomnia and it becomes a vicious cycle. You should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Try to have a warm bath before sleeping. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well.
