443862 tn?1237999439 I believe that all of the issues you mentioned are contributing to your lack of sleep. It's known that menopause in early stages cause sleep disorders, diabetes also can do that, don't know much about the the thyroid disorder but it can also contribute. I have also sleep disorders, and I found that a nap during the day help me to sleep better at night, believe or not... incredible.
Avatar n tn i hav edr appt followup sat this week but i have anxiety in my chest since i got to reading this papers thanks this test was done after i was diagnosed with sleep disorders snoring and syptoms were waking up gasping and waking from snoring often please tell me if its ave numbers or what thanks again
Avatar m tn The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy. Medical (sedatives) are given in the temporary initial phase, this is combined with non medical measures like sleep hygiene, relaxation therapy, stimulus control, and sleep restriction which are referred to as cognitive behavioral therapies. As the non medical measures help to restore your sleep rhythm, the sedatives are withdrawn.
Avatar m tn Is it possible to have both narcolepsy and insomnia? My doctor said my complaints are highly suggestive of narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness, occasional episodes of hypnopompic hallucinations upon waking, short term memory lapses, etc).
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
Avatar f tn Anyway I get to sleep and wake up within an hour to two hours. This goes on all night. I never go to sleep and sleep through the night. The sleep study was done with my taking a sleeping pill before the study and the technician still stated I wake up a lot. It was every two hours that night. Is there any help for broken sleep, the neurologist did not have anything for me as I do not have sleep apnea. I already knew that, but he did not listen. However, Is there any help out there?
Avatar n tn I agree with going for polysomnography, an overnight sleep study for definite diagnosis and to rule out other types of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. Primary insomnia refers to insomnia that is not caused by any known physical or mental condition and can be caused by many different things like alcohol, anxiety, coffee, or stress.

Avatar f tn Hypnagogic hallucinations/sleep paralysis, common in narcolepsy and other sleep disorders—I suspect. Try to have a sleep study done.
Avatar n tn s Thyroiditis together with Neurally Mediated Orthostatic Hypotension and finally Narcolepsy. 100mg Oroxine, and Modafinil. I am happy to lie down and sleep and would have relief in never waking up. Any suggestions would be great.
600561 tn?1326845621 Some more tips for sleeping well. Follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoiding smoking and caffeinated beverages. This will reduce the severity of sleep disorder symptoms. Always make the bedroom environment very cool, dark and cozy like a cave, cause bats are super snoozers and they sleep in caves. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
4253094 tn?1351751117 If the symptoms still do not resolve, then you have to get assessed for sleep disorders. Certain sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea can cause disturbed sleep and hence the need to sleep more. And others like narcolepsy can cause excessive sleepiness per say. If it persists or is troublesome consult your doctor for assessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
7612493 tn?1393737078 Am I the only one? It seems as if since I got pregnant (even before I knew, now that I've thought about it) I've been up in the morning by around 7am!! Whether I go to sleep early or not.. haha. I used to be able to sleep in when I could, now no matter what... 7 in the morning is when I'm up. And I NEVER was a morning person. But it seems the morning is when I have the most energy now.. and later in the day is when all my pregnancy symptoms kick in. Odd. (: but I don't even mind.
Avatar m tn I realize usually pretty quick that nothing is really going on ( in the matter of seconds ). I have had different kind of sleep disorders, from sleep talking to things i cant even describe. Insomnia was also quite common in the past, not so much anymore though.
4686261 tn?1358135192 Hi! The REM is the stage of sleep, as measured by the brain waves & as far as I understand that is the only phase during which we dream. I don't remember dreams, usually. But many nights, I have the same struggle as I did the night of the study...wake repeatedly and don't feel I have truly gotten to sleep until early in the morning, after 4am. If left to my own devices & schedule, I would be up late into the night and sleep til 10 - noon.
Avatar n tn insomnia (difficulty falling and staying asleep), daytime sleepiness (a symptom of underlying sleep disorders such as sleep apnea) and sleep paralysis (can’t move or speak when awake). Sleep medications cause many people to feel worse in the morning (which is why many people stop taking them). This is because many sleep pills disrupt deep sleep and dream sleep and produce a daytime hangover effect because the pill is still on your body. Dr. Jacobs www.cbtforinsomnia.
1327431 tn?1327072104 They may also be associated with sleep disorders (eg, sleep apnea, periodic limb movements), medical conditions that cause pain, psychiatric diseases (eg, anxiety, depression), or the use or withdrawal of alcohol, nicotine, or other substances. The investigations which will help to diagnose the type and cause for insomnia are Polysomnography, Multiple sleep latency test and Actigraphy.
Avatar f tn More a question than an answer: I have never heard of clonazepam, but if it helped with dreaming problems, then it might be something I should discuss with my Primary care, or even the Pulmonary specialist that oversaw my sleep study early this year. I suffer from both chronic "troublemares" and chronic nasal congestion when lying down.
Avatar f tn And ASPS is the opposite, a sufferer will go to sleep early and wake up early and fall to sleep in the evening. It's all to do with disruptions in the Circadian Rhythm, which i don't properly understand. My doctor said i will need to see a specialist to be diagnosed, but here in the U.K that isn't easy. Doe's anyone here suffer from DSPS? Doe's my symptom's sound like it? I'm really struggling here.
