I have no intention of letting myself die of this conviction, but I hope to be able to attempt other solutions and let them eat bread! OOPs, you see I lived in France for 12 years for which I give credit for my NOT being overweight and bla bla bal. what a wonderful health care system. We pay and get lousy care but most people are totally un aware of this..
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.

Avatar n tn It affects sleep itself, decreasing sleep latency, increasing sleep efficiency, and increasing the total sleep time. Melatonin acts on the melatonin receptors. Other neurotransmitters are neuropeptides like orexin-A and orexin-B which are basically involved in wakefulness. Excess of these peptides can also lead to insomnia. The investigations which will help to diagnose the type and cause for insomnia are Polysomnography, Multiple sleep latency test and Actigraphy .
Avatar n tn I have suffer from depression inmsonia anxiety and I have tree herniated disk onmy cervical and 3 on my lumber I don't want to take any medication and iam in lots of pain and don't sleep .What should I do.?
Avatar n tn When I was first diagnosed i rented a C-PAP machine and was not to crazy about it so I opted for the surgery to remove the uvula and part of my soft palate (the soft tissue at the back of the roof of your mouth where the little 'punching bag' is.) I had another overnight test at the sleep clinic and I still had multiple episodes so I ended up having to use the machine after all. They can be a drag to get used to but trust me, after a while you won't even notice you are using it.
Avatar f tn I had a sleep study done. It was a waste of time. I told the doctor all about my sleep habits but they requested the test anyway. I go to sleep eventually, some nights, I will not sleep at all and that is really a bad feeling for the next day. Anyway I get to sleep and wake up within an hour to two hours. This goes on all night. I never go to sleep and sleep through the night.
Avatar f tn It does sound like narcolepsy to me but it could be any of the sleep cycle disorders really. Sleep paralysis is a very common feature of narcolepsy. How old are you? I was convinced I had narcolepsy when I went but I ended up having periodic limb movement disorder. It's where you kick your legs and move your arms all night long. Every time I would get into REM, I would kick my legs or move my arms and it would jerk me out of it. That's what caused me to remember my dreams vividly.
Avatar n tn It is not possible to attribute this to his age without a medical evaluation first. There are many causes of poor night time sleep, and daytime sleepiness. Please advise him to see his doctor - this may not necessarily be a neurological illness, so don't jump to conclusions too quickly with a diagnosis. But please, please, please, get him to stop driving. If he loves the independance of his car then this should be motivation enough to get treatment.
Avatar f tn Try melatonin instead of unison, it is a chemical the brain already produces to help you sleep. Start off with 1mg and see if it works. You can take up to 5ml a night.
Avatar f tn Hello, Tinnitus is known adverse effect due to ambien. 60 % of tinnitus due zolpidem is seen within a month of its use. Around 50 % patients can have severe tinnitus. Other associated symptoms are Labyrinthitis and vertigo. You need to get an examination done from an ENT specialist and get other causes of tinnitus ruled out. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your child seems to have circardium related sleep disorder. It starts in childhood, onset of sleep problems tend to be associated with stress, anxiety, or circadian rhythm sleep disorders. They may also be associated with sleep disorders (eg, sleep apnea, periodic limb movements), medical conditions that cause pain, psychiatric diseases (eg, anxiety, depression).
Avatar f tn Also, ensure to use CPAP regularly to fight the symptoms of sleep apnea. A sleep study called polysomnography may be needed for further evaluation. Consult your doctor for the same. In the meantime you could avoid taking alcohol and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me as if you are suffering from sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea stop breathing during their sleep. There may be some obstruction in the air passage.
Avatar m tn The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy. Medical (sedatives) are given in the temporary initial phase, this is combined with non medical measures like sleep hygiene, relaxation therapy, stimulus control, and sleep restriction which are referred to as cognitive behavioral therapies. As the non medical measures help to restore your sleep rhythm, the sedatives are withdrawn.
