Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
Avatar f tn Have you mentioned to your Dr. that you have a history of eating disorders? (I assume that's what you mean when you say you have lost a significant amount of weight in a not-so-healthy manner, if I am wrong, I am sorry for assuming). If you do/have struggled with an eating disorder, you need to tell your dr. immediately. They can aid you in overcoming the depression of pregnancy weight gain and guide you in normal pregnancy weight gain (maybe refer you to a pregnancy nutritionist).

You should consult a sleep specialist and get all these causes ruled out.

This can be interrupted, if you have sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. OSA can also cause hypoxia. Another possibility is disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders (trouble mares). Here the person acts out the dreams. Good Luck with your sleep study. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The only reason I mention that is some poeple with sleep disorders, particularly sleep apnea, seem to gain weight without obvious cause. Wouldn't hurt to be evaluated by an endocrinologist. I would suggest you get copies of prior test results and start a home file. You may see something over time that stands out, and if you see different doctors, it would help them to have those results as a baseline.

Avatar m tn The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy. Medical (sedatives) are given in the temporary initial phase, this is combined with non medical measures like sleep hygiene, relaxation therapy, stimulus control, and sleep restriction which are referred to as cognitive behavioral therapies. As the non medical measures help to restore your sleep rhythm, the sedatives are withdrawn.
Avatar f tn It sounds to me as if you are suffering from sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea stop breathing during their sleep. There may be some obstruction in the air passage.

Avatar f tn Anyway I get to sleep and wake up within an hour to two hours. This goes on all night. I never go to sleep and sleep through the night. The sleep study was done with my taking a sleeping pill before the study and the technician still stated I wake up a lot. It was every two hours that night. Is there any help for broken sleep, the neurologist did not have anything for me as I do not have sleep apnea. I already knew that, but he did not listen. However, Is there any help out there?
