It also causes sleep disorders in him as well as gives him constant nightmares as his subconscious mind is manifesting frightening images in his sleep. Please take your child to a pediatric mental health professional because this behavior is a warning sign and not to be taken lightly. Get it checked out for your piece of mind.
Avatar n tn Hi, narcolepsy and sleepwalking are different sleep disorders. Narcolepsy is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnagogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. It can however be regulated with medications. So, ensure to take them regularly and follow up with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar n tn Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. These disorders can be diagnosed with a sleep study. I would advise you to discuss your symptoms with your primary care physician who may then refer you to a sleep specialist for further evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, there are hormones and neurotransmitters and receptors which play role in sleep and wakefulness. Melatonin is one such hormone and it appears to be the primary sleep-regulating hormone of the body. It is secreted in relation with normal day/night cycles. It affects sleep itself, decreasing sleep latency, increasing sleep efficiency, and increasing the total sleep time. Melatonin acts on the melatonin receptors.
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn Is it that important that he goes to sleep early, does he sleep during the day? My son has never slept before 11pm what time are you trying to get him to sleep? Lots of families are in the park until 10pm by us and made me realise i am not alone!
Avatar f tn It could be narcolepsy but if that's the case then it would be happening more often. You should go for a sleep study and have them check for narcolepsy. Do you feel excessively tired during the day all the time?

Avatar n tn He also does not sleep well at night and probably sleeps only four to five hours every night. He is now 70 years old. Could the short, light sleeping at nightime be contributing to a form of narcelepsy? I'm concerned about him falling asleep at the wheel for a longer period of what I think now is 2 to 3 seconds at a time. Is there medication for this condition?
Avatar f tn The only way to be sure of this is to stop taking it for a time and see if tinnitus goes away. So far, I have not taken any for 11 nights and tinnitus is still the same. - A pretty much constant low-pitched noise. How long would I have to stay off Zolpidem before knowing whether or not it is the culprit?
Avatar n tn Problems with breathing (Obstructive sleep apnea), certain medications, restless leg movements and sleep walking/talking could contribute to insomnia. Follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoidance of alcohol, smoking and caffeinated beverages. Please consult your primary care physician if problem persists. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Anyway I get to sleep and wake up within an hour to two hours. This goes on all night. I never go to sleep and sleep through the night. The sleep study was done with my taking a sleeping pill before the study and the technician still stated I wake up a lot. It was every two hours that night. Is there any help for broken sleep, the neurologist did not have anything for me as I do not have sleep apnea. I already knew that, but he did not listen. However, Is there any help out there?
1935826 tn?1323883580 You should stop becoming anxious about sleep as this becomes a vicious cycle and you may face problems falling asleep. There is a circadian rhythm for all living organisms. It is a 24 hour cycle rhythm and the biological clock within that individual adapts to this rhythm. If you observe this rhythm, the transition happens gradually, like the daylight subsides slowly into darkness and the sounds too gradually mellow down into the night. These changes condition us and promote sleep.
Avatar f tn the will monitor and observe your and tell you what exactly is happening while you sleep. You might try to note if this happens more or worse during certain times, liike stress, or diet, or does excersize help.. Your teeth, your mouth also figure into it, how your throat reasts when you sleep, is your mouth open, do you lay on your back. Hope it gets better for you..
Avatar f tn Try melatonin instead of unison, it is a chemical the brain already produces to help you sleep. Start off with 1mg and see if it works. You can take up to 5ml a night.

Avatar f tn The other causes for your symptoms could be metabolic disorders like diabetes and hypothyroidism, which can be detected by a simple blood test. But there is treatment for premenopausal symptoms in the form of Hormone Replacement therapy (HRT). You can discuss this with your primary care physician when you happen to meet him next time. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
