Avatar f tn So I'm planning on taking 4 college classes next fall. I'm due Oct 7th and the semester will end December 8th, so I'll probably go into labor right in the middle of the semester. Have any college mamas gone through this? How was it juggling college and a new born?
Avatar m tn s not much she can do to totally escape the sensory overload. Young people are amazingly resilient and some go all thru college with inadequate and irregular sleep. But if she indicates the being stuck scenario, suggest she modify her schedule for a few days and arrange a few hours here and there of total down time. Remind her that sleep is critical to her cognitive abilities and memory, and to be kind to herself so that her body and mind are equipped to handle a busy lifestyle.
Avatar n tn You can imagine how difficult it must be to complete a college semester on this sleep schedule. He has been tested at the sleep center twice and they say that his sleep is improving; however, he is still suffering from "zoning out" or daydreaming. He has a difficult time staying in a conversation and maintaining any extended time of concentration.

1926359 tn?1331588139 Hi Y'all so I'm on day 6 of detox and have had a grand total of 5 hours sleep in 5 nights. I have sleep meds that I've been on for years that I plan to wean off of after this-obviously they aren't helping me out. My problem is I have auto immune illness that is triggered by lack of sleep and I'm feeling a flare coming on. Can I take Melotonin with zoplicone? will it help? or should I just stop taking the zoplicone as it isn't working and use the Melatonin.
326352 tn?1310994295 I think I trained myself when they were infants to get up several times a night and I still do that....crazy. Lack of sleep is such a killer, wreaks havoc on your body. True story....My Happy and I went on a weekend getaway a few years back...we arrived in this sweet little Connecticut town, had a couple of drinks, went back to the hotel and promptly fell asleep. The best part we slept for 14 hours! It was like a slice of Heaven.
1794093 tn?1357930759 I definitely understand the sleep deprivation. It really ***** :( I work overnights and have a terrible time trying to sleep during the morning/afternoons. Im also up every hour, or hour and a half, then still manage to work/do things around the house. I always thought the 2nd trimester was supposed to be the best, sure i dont feel sick anymore, but this has been brutal for sleep. Thats exciting about your ultrasound coming up, and really exciting that you are not finding out the gender!
Avatar f tn As a teenager I went through a year of sleep deprivation. I got about six hours of sleep a night. I felt very sleepy every day and even had feelings of confusion and derealization. Did I cause any permanent damage to my brain? In addition, has damage caused by oxidative stress and free radicals irreversibly increased my cancer risk?
Avatar m tn what are the college students risks? i cant seem to find it on the internet although i do see the leading cases are between the ages of 13 -24...but what is the latest statistic on college campuses among races?
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, The symptoms you've mentioned are very non specific, too wide spread, random, all peripherals which are not the types of symptom pattern that is suggestive or consistent with a neurological condition like MS. Its not uncommon to experience higher stress levels when significant life altering events are happening, the closer the event the higher the anxiety.
Avatar f tn Ok, I have a wedge that I sleep with but It just hurts my hips because I have to sleep on my side and this puts all this pressure on my hips. I've thought about putting cinder blocks under my bed, but isn't this like sleeping on a slide. I'm very short so maybe it won't matter much, LOL. Does anyone have any better suggestions??
Avatar f tn Patmers that are in college how did you guys do presentations? How did they go? I have two coming up. or anybody that has effectively reduced their reactions greatly. Please help me out with effective tips Starving myself doesn't work.
Avatar f tn College day cares are normally students who are getting their masters in child development. I would ask all kinds of questions like how often they have tummy time, how they put baby to sleep(because many put them to sleep with a bottle which is a big no no!
502065 tn?1329187519 For one thing, I would read up on sleep hygiene and be diligent to implement healthy sleep habits. Have you had a medical checkup to be sure you don't have a cause for the prolonged periods of sleeplessness? Also, a sleep study may be in order. Some people with sleep disorders avoid sleep because subconsciously their body knows sleep will not be a pleasant thing. Do you have any symptoms of sleep apnea perhaps?
Avatar m tn with pardner, just because a few students on one campus are idiots. I know at UT Austin the Liberal students would be horrified and would argue with his bigoted @$$ until they realized he was a put on, while the conservative students would simply whack him over the head with his clipboard. What's interesting is how nthe article is subtlely misleading from the first sentence, implying that offhand statements made after the petition was signed were actually part of what was signed.
Avatar m tn While the masturbation can be normal, the depression is the thing that needs to be dealt with. There is a good chance that if that is dealt with -other things will get better. Colleges are set up to help their students having problems. They deal with this all the time. Talk to someone in the medical facility or to your school counselor and tell them that you are having problems with depression. You don't have to mention the masturbation.
620048 tn?1358018235 The sleep deprivation is a killer. I struggle with it always. I've been on ambien for a long time and it only works intermittently only. The med that worked best for me was temazapam (generic for Restirol) but I ended up getting allergic after 5 months. I could not believe how I felt in the morning when taking that - it was wonderful and I was glad to know what a nights sleep was worth the next day. No sleep leaves you functionless and like a zombie in every way - mentally, physically.
Avatar n tn They gave me 4 times the dose of what I was suppose to have- 100 lb. woman. I am having severe sleep deprivation from this, night sweats and the shakes. How do I get my sleep habits back? I am waking up every hour! I am due to have surgery in a few days and am afraid that I am going to wake up during the procedure. I need help, what do i do? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Are you in sports? Calories for college students vary because of differences in physical activity. Make sure your diet is mostly whole foods including low-fat dairy, whole-grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and healthy oils. Don't skip breakfast. Don't get in the habit of staying up late, then rush to get to class. You need food to get your metabolism up, your energy levels will be low and you'll be starving and likely to overeat by lunch.
1542305 tn?1293169772 Insufficient or poor quality sleep that leads to chronic sleep deprivation can skew dreaming. As my sleep deprivation worsened, so did my my dreaming as I was going to sleep. Still do it, but it is less glaringly odd to me now.
10626389 tn?1412006663 Hey guys! I'm a senior in college this year and I seem to be struggling with my weight. Ever since I transfered to a further campus, I've slowly started packing on the pounds. I don't have access to home-cooked meals, just what they serve in the dining hall or take out/frozen foods. I've recently stopped drinking soda and cut down on the coffee. I try to stay active sad eat more fruits and veggies. But I still get munchies for junk food.
503607 tn?1275671579 The best thing you can do is remain calm and be there to listen. It's really good that she trusts you enough to tell you how she feels. When anyone loses someone close to them it's normal to want to join them, but it's not a good attitude to endorse. I took a few classes in college from a suicidologist named Ralph Rickgarn (RIP). He told us that you should take it very seriously whenever anyone says they are thinking about suicide. Immediately find her a therapist.
148588 tn?1465778809 Yes, true. That is why I said "off topic". I find this article a bit confusing in tagging issues of taxing corporations that pollute or not to the issue of student loans. Those also seem like two different things. Is the desire to not tax corporations that pollute an effort to support business in a round about way? Not saying I agree with that but there is more to it most likely than this article suggests.
Avatar f tn SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- When the Massachusetts Institute of Technology offered its first free online course this spring, Ashwith Rego jumped at the chance to learn from some of the world's leading researchers — without leaving his home in India. "I never imagined that I would be taught by professors from MIT, let alone for free," said the 24-year-old engineer who works in Bangalore.
